  • Hey everyone!
This sit-down style video is all about my detailed journey to vet school... we're talking exact grades, overall averages, applying averages and then I share my work experiences as well. This process is such a grind, and I know it was not an easy one for me - hope this reaches the right audience and if you are trying to get in to vet school or some other competitive program - I am cheering for you!
    Enjoy!

I have plans for vet school and my gpa in highschool was good somewhere in the lower 3’s. I got sick majorly twice in the end of my senior year and the beginning of my first year in college resulting in lower grades due to no time to have make up work. I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video talking about lower grades! Thank you

Thank you!!! I was in a similar situation first two years of college were no good. I ended up working as an EMT and then joining the military as a medic. Getting out soon and excited to get back into undergrad to fix my GPA !

I live in Sask! Hey! I am turning 31 this year. I have been support staff in vet med for 6+ years. I wouldn't cut it for vet school but I have been wanting to be an rvt for years but my confidence is crap so I kept telling myself I couldn't. Thanks to my veterinarian hubs, he encouraged me to go for it. I often feel "too old" and such, but what can ya do. We just can't compare ourselves to others. It is really nice to hear your story. You got this!

Hey! Thank you for sharing your experience and I absolutely agree - you just gotta for it! We'll all be "too old" eventually if we tell ourselves that. Good luck in RVT school - you're years of experience in the field I'm sure will be so helpful you'll do great!

ya exactly! Plus honestly we are young!! There's still so much life ahead of us and we will be so happy reaching our dreams no matter what. Keep us updated 😊

Thanks for sharing your story with us. I am also a "non-traditional" student, with slightly (?) better 1st yr grades but GPA still below the cut-off and no impressive career to show for it. XD I want to improve my study skills regardless. I would love to sign up for some online courses but my alma mater barely offers any.
I will start volunteering at a wildlife animal sanctuary and if it's a good vibe, I will apply to their 3-month internship. I plan to re-enter the work force via a vet clinic as a vet assistant. I hear some places are happy to do a lot of on the job training and that'd be awesome -- at least now I know now that I want to become a vet and I am willing to take as many detours as possible to get there.
I really appreciate your encouragement & optimism. I feel so gutted when I hear those negative takes online, so thank you for lifting us up!

Thank you for your comment! I think that wildlife volunteering and internship is a great idea, there isn’t much option for something like that where I am but what a cool opportunity! Sounds like you are committed and realistic with the detours and I wish you all the best!

@@chantal_riane I attended the volunteer info session and it feels really good so far. It occurred to me that there are probably pre-reqs for the internship that I don’t have yet … vet school or something similar … but I’ll ask soon.
Thanks for your videos and positivity!

    Hi Chantal,
Wanted to say first and foremost, thank you for making this channel for the transparency and the honesty about going back to school at a much later age and also for veterinary school.
I just came across your channel and I am honestly more inspired now to go back to school as well for something with animals.
I am currently as of now in the process of starting a volunteer opportunity at a no kill shelter here in the U.S. starting to volunteer since I know this would count for experience in the long run.
Just wanted to say please keep uploading videos on your experience!! I am looking forward to seeing your videos and just hearing you speak about your experiences!

How are retaking the prerequisistes? community college? How are you juggling in case you are working and studying at the same time? I am worried I will not be able to retake labs since they are within my working hours.

Thank you so much for this video ❤
In four days I start my first semester of vet and I need to keep good notes, becouse I need a scholarship and in that way if my grades need to be superior than 46 (50 is the maximun grade) and my parents dont need to pay the next semester (also they dont have the money, so I really, really need to keep good grades) Im a little bit scared, but I know I can do in
If you can make a video explaning for example how you study, yout tips, how study smart and not hard and tips that you have I really apreciated a lot
Thank you for the video. See you soon ❤

Thank you for this comment! That is amazing of you to be thinking about what you need to do for scholarships and everything, and I'd be happy to make that video sometime. I feel like I'm still getting my study habits figured out and I still feel like vet school is scary sometimes haha. You'll be great, I'm so happy to have you here!
