Jeanette should have won the Tony. This is the best Broadway Cele EVER. She brought the house down, and everyone was in tears. The range is unbelievable. ❤❤❤
Had the privilege of seeing her do this live. I’ve never forgotten the ROAR the audience let loose when she said “I’m beautiful”. I also love that she plays it within Celie’s age- this is an older woman having this moment and she acts it beautifully.
I believe every word she sang. There are a lot of great renditions of this song, but this is still the best. I feel every emotion and she has that fast, tight vibrato that is exhilarating and sounds like church.
I still come back to this performance a couple of times a year. It's the best version of I'm here I've ever seen. I've seen the show live twice on Broadway in 2006, I wish I had seen this fantastic woman, even though the ones I saw were fantastic as well! Jeannette's voice is just otherworldly!
All the women who played Celie on Broadway were wonderful, but Jeannette Bayardelle found every comic moment while remaining true to character. Her performance broke my heart and made me weep every time. And no has delivered this song the way she does. The proof is right here.
Im obsessed with Cynthia's version. But holy crap this lady i feel isnt "broadway" singing... she is transmuting her heart into song. I felt everything. Shook
There have been a lot of covers and singers who have done this role, but no one sang it like Jeannette. She opted up on things that no one else ever did. Raw emotion. Great acting.
Earlier today, I was reading through some affirmations written to combat negative core beliefs about abandonment, namely the paralyzing worry that everyone you love will leave you. I found the exercise important but wondered about whether it would resonant with everyone, as I struggled to feel empowered by repeating “I am safe, I am loved, I will walk paths not dominated by fear.” Some TH-cam browsing brought me to Bayardelle’s performance in Girl from the North Country which led to me remembering seeing her in The Color Purple in Chicago…and this song. Which is the resonant affirmation against fear of abandonment, hell, it’s the heal spell to anything that ails you, trauma or loss. A line by line set of affirmations that reject what your particular life has put on you so you can sing out the love that is always waiting inside you. It’s the healing, and the maybe too slow realization by Celie, and the rest of us, that even if no body coming to save us, we going to save ourselves anyway. Note. I always loved that the show emphasized that Celie’s salvation is through reading and writing; that’s an element of the book that gets dismissed. It’s method of telling the story, letters to and from Celie and Nettie, focus the point that being able to tell our own stories is the core of being able to own our own lives.
I was fortunate enough to see her in San Francisco. I consider Jeannette Bayardelle the best Celie. She took everybody's breath away and there were no dry eyes among the audience. I also love Cynthia Erivo. She gave the character a totally different soul to hold in your heart. Altho' I wish experienced the same depth in the production as I did during Bayardelle's time.
Best Celie Ever Hands Down! She makes me want to believe. Cynthia, Fantasia, La Chanze were good but, Jeannette’s rendition of “I’m Here” was so phenomenal and unforgettable and will stay in my memories forever..
Her range and vocals are great. But Fantasia sings this song as if she really went thru what Celie went through. No one has been able to convey that same feeling to me the way she has
Saw her live in The Color Purple in San Fransisco ten years ago and she was awesome!!! Her version of I'm here is truly the best and still brings me to tears!! NO ONE beats her! :)
Every time I see this, I just cannot. She's SO DAMNED TALENTED. I wish she would have gone to the Broadway company... She was truly the best sung Celie of ANY company.
I'm not sure why your tone is so angry, but as a person with an actual degree in Theatre with a focus in Musical Theatre and Production Management, I stand by what I said. Fantasia is more believable as Celine, so her overall performance was better to me.
Jeffrey May Hyche goosebumps!! Electricity every time she modulates that note linked in one breathe and then she hands of hips ends with a playful whimsical floriture down, like thinker bell topping the cake #DropMic
I’ve been watching this video for years and it STILL continues to inspire me every time! Jeanette is incredible! This is by far, the best performance that I have ever seen anyone do of this song. The others were all incredible too! This one just moves me a lot more. Wow!!!
Ms. Bayardelle portrays Celie's journey with dramatic power and a vocal quality that rings with truth. I have seen and heard in person, other portrayals. Ms. Bayadelle delivers the arc of Celie's journey and the epiphany of inner beauty with dramatic and musical gift. Truly Blessed !! Bravo !!
While I love Cynthia, LaChanze(who both originated the role on Broadway) and Fantasia was wonderful Jeanette Kills it! I hate, but I love to say it,, she slayed any other actress on stage who portrayed this character.
Benjamin N I mean, this woman somehow sang Cynthia into the ground with style and resonance, but Cynthia has the G no problem, so she CAN and DOES "hit those notes" just not in the same way
@uknow who If you're telling me this doesn't sound like a woman who's spent her life under someone's thumb discover newfound confidence, finally realise her self worth and that she has all she needs to be happy in this life - you're an idiot. Like actually ignorant.
let's not make it a competition guys 😂 y'all both are devoted and have different tastes, be happy this rendition is as powerful and moving as it is and that it's out there for our viewing and auditory pleasure.
Im starting to think halle is connected to Jaennette because, the song in the little mermaid (i will sing) is done by Jeannette and halle plays the little mermaid and now this song for the color and halle now has a role in the color purple 😩😩
Benjamin N I completely disagree the revival embodied Celie perfectly. I just watched the film last night and the original broadway made Celie look like she was on the verge of crying every time she spoke. I’m the film Celie looked broken inside and just over it nothing could phase her because nothing worse could happen to her. She had already accepted that her life is over. All that changed when Shug came into the picture. The original broadway made her seem so fragile and she wasn’t fragile at all. She really started slowly but surely finding herself.
It's also.... Not? 1. Pitchy ain't a good described of a song Nd 2. Very rarely is she not right on pitch. There's some wide vibrato, some intentional modulations and some riffs, but there is only one note where she went even slightly sharp, so..... Try again
That moment of taking off her glasses on “though they don’t see as far now” is a perfect touch!
Jeanette should have won the Tony. This is the best Broadway Cele EVER. She brought the house down, and everyone was in tears. The range is unbelievable. ❤❤❤
Jeanette sang the hell out of this song. No one, and I mean no one, has sung this song better.
Had the privilege of seeing her do this live. I’ve never forgotten the ROAR the audience let loose when she said “I’m beautiful”. I also love that she plays it within Celie’s age- this is an older woman having this moment and she acts it beautifully.
In my opinion, she was the best at singing this song among all the singers I have heard and seen on TH-cam.
She’s good but the title goes to Fantasia and Cynthia
OMG I can now see which version Cynthia based her glorious "I'm gonna sing out" note. Bravo Jeannette Bayardelle!
YESSSS!!! That G5 note is everything!!! I definitely see where Cynthia took some of her inspiration for her version. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Right. She did some difficult notes in this😭😭😭
Cynthia who?
Agreed! 💯 perfection!!
@@johnlyndsay Cynthia Erivo! Who i am also an incredible fan of!
I believe every word she sang. There are a lot of great renditions of this song, but this is still the best. I feel every emotion and she has that fast, tight vibrato that is exhilarating and sounds like church.
Her voice is monstrous! She’s got a Whitney power to her
I believe her as an old person. Not a broken one like Fantasia. But proud and tired but keeping on going.
I thought I’ve seen the best rendition until I’ve seen this one. WOW!! Just wow!!! 🎉
I still come back to this performance a couple of times a year. It's the best version of I'm here I've ever seen. I've seen the show live twice on Broadway in 2006, I wish I had seen this fantastic woman, even though the ones I saw were fantastic as well! Jeannette's voice is just otherworldly!
That "Alive in me" at 3:31 gets me going!
YESSSS!!! That part gets me too!!
Gives me life!!!
Man, listen. It's quick yet so powerful! Whew!!!!
All the women who played Celie on Broadway were wonderful, but Jeannette Bayardelle found every comic moment while remaining true to character. Her performance broke my heart and made me weep every time. And no has delivered this song the way she does. The proof is right here.
Absolutely. She did that twice a day everyday! I must’ve saw this 15-20 times cuz I worked there as an usher! AMAZING! Absolutely amazing!!!!
I never got a chance to see her.
Im obsessed with Cynthia's version. But holy crap this lady i feel isnt "broadway" singing... she is transmuting her heart into song. I felt everything. Shook

This has got to be the most Beautiful Celie I've ever seen. Her eyes are so freaking GORGEOUS😍😍😍😍😍
The emotional release in this version of the song got me crying so bad- The intensity and the clarity and the visual tension was so beautifully done

The best version 😮

me too! Thank you for expressing the words exactly what I wanted to say.
Agreed!!
Good? You tried it. They're all phenomenal!
Her range and vocals are great. But Fantasia sings this song as if she really went thru what Celie went through. No one has been able to convey that same feeling to me the way she has
Clear, clean, powerful, consistent, it just doesn't get any better that Ms. Jeanette Bayardelle!
Saw her live in The Color Purple in San Fransisco ten years ago and she was awesome!!! Her version of I'm here is truly the best and still brings me to tears!! NO ONE beats her! :)
Absolutely am in agreement! Its a go to whenever I am in need of inspiration! ❤
Jeanette Bayardelle is absolutely incredible!!!
Every time I see this, I just cannot. She's SO DAMNED TALENTED. I wish she would have gone to the Broadway company... She was truly the best sung Celie of ANY company.
Incredible. WoW! I never knew she was Celie on Broadway. Powerful and unique.
I am so impressed with her singing, and to me, she’s the best of all who sang this song.
My favorite. Saw this live in Atlanta many many years ago. Had me in tears.
She definitely has the most difficult version by a couple notes or more. Great performance really.
Best performance!!! I concur. That belted note at 3:07 that moves up all in one brreath....AMAZING!!!
Best Delivery - Fantasia...hands down!!!!
Cynthia Erivo is the best one hands down! no one can touch her vocal skills , no one!!!
Elizabeth Santiago Girl bye 😂
Bet you haven't even watched the show! You have to be there to appreciate pure raw talent!!!!
I'm not sure why your tone is so angry, but as a person with an actual degree in Theatre with a focus in Musical Theatre and Production Management, I stand by what I said. Fantasia is more believable as Celine, so her overall performance was better to me.
Hasani Taylor Only thing I would correct you on was that the note at 3:07 was a mix, not a true belt. Still absolutely earth shattering tho!
The best singer of this song hands down.......
victor dunson hands down all right. Thank you everyone for your efforts. We have a winner. There's snacks on the way out. You're welcome...
Gerry Elessar de la Villeneuve , just now seeing your reply. Love it 😊
3:33 favorite part!
Jeffrey May Hyche goosebumps!! Electricity every time she modulates that note linked in one breathe and then she hands of hips ends with a playful whimsical floriture down, like thinker bell topping the cake #DropMic
amazing... beautiful... she sounds reminiscent of Stephanie Mills. I love it! old school. definitely an OG version.
The Best version of I’m here, no one did it as Jeannette Bayardelle… simply gorgeous ❤️❤️
This is my favorite version of this song!!!!
No one has done this song better , many have done it well. But this lady is own sit with that full throttle voice
Cynthia owns this, sorry
@@primbautista7479 yes she does, Cynthia hands down!
I think Cynthia is the best but I like this one too🤗🤗
THIS!!!! NO ONE COMES CLOSE!
I’ve been watching this video for years and it STILL continues to inspire me every time!
Jeanette is incredible! This is by far, the best performance that I have ever seen anyone do of this song. The others were all incredible too! This one just moves me a lot more.

That was magnificent! Sweet Jesus that was great!
The best version of this song
Nope still Fantasia
OK I take it back Holy moly
This woman is phenomenal. I watch this alot and she gives me chills . This one is one of best ever. She is utterly amazing.
Wow I love this ❤️
It’s the small things for me! She has a strong voice!
Bravo !!
NO ONE COMES CLOSE TO THIS PERFORMANCE. NO ONE!!!!!!!
Omg this girl gave me more chills love her opera this girl made this song her own now that real talent.that girl can blow ???
She is a powerhouse!
The very BEST rendition of "I'm Here"!
I'm encouraged!!
My favorite version of this gorgeous song!
Such an Underrated Performance!
This was very well acted and definitely some amazing choices and placements!

Amazing!!! 😍
Wow. Just wow.
3:07 WOW.
Lord can this woman sing
Ok, May I have your attention, Please? Yes? Thank You. Ok, everybody: JEANETTE BAYARDELLE.
You're Welcome...
This is the best version of this song. I mean c’mon! The vocal placement!! My god.
2:42 is the part we are all waiting for
The best
Wowwwwwww
She has Whitney Houston power and clarity
That part where she takes off her glasses and says she has better sight.
Oh I love this so much, the costumes are great
3:13 took me out!! 👏
While I love Cynthia, LaChanze(who both originated the role on Broadway) and Fantasia was wonderful Jeanette Kills it! I hate, but I love to say it,, she slayed any other actress on stage who portrayed this character.
I SO AGREE! TO EACH HIS OWN. TO ME, SHE IS THE BEST CELIE!
Melhor interpretação, Outubro/2020.
Just Saang!!!😮😊
that sister got some chops
That's Michelle Williams playing Shug🎉🎉🎉
How to turn a perfectly composed grown-ass man into a sobbing mess in 4 minutes.
She was good. But I like fantasies version of this play!
Totalmente arrepiado kkkk
Even Erivo couldn't hit these notes. JB was truly the best vocalist to ever play Celie
Benjamin N I mean, this woman somehow sang Cynthia into the ground with style and resonance, but Cynthia has the G no problem, so she CAN and DOES "hit those notes" just not in the same way

WHY do audiences always clap during THE BIGGEST PART OF A PERFOMANCERS SONG!? like why would you want to cover up what you’re praisingg???
The musical direction for the original show was so much more soulful for Celie.
The revival killed her sound
Benjamin N I completely disagree the revival embodied Celie perfectly. Was she a replacement cast or an understudy? 😍
She was the original Celie.
Oh wait! NVM wrong video. :P
Correct me id Im wrong, but I think she started off as an understudy, but she originated Celie on the tour and later was a replacement on Broadway.
Michelle play who?
Shug Avery
#poormichelle
nice job, but the mic is extremely loud! sheesh!
That bitch can sing
Fantasia, who ?
It's really pitchy
Ian Neil Guevarra it's ok because of the emotion that's felt during this song.
A part of vocal beauty is flaws!! sometimes the most technical vocals lack feeling. no one cares that she's a pitchy but you.
It's also.... Not? 1. Pitchy ain't a good described of a song Nd 2. Very rarely is she not right on pitch. There's some wide vibrato, some intentional modulations and some riffs, but there is only one note where she went even slightly sharp, so..... Try again
Ian Neil Guevarra i was there and it was pure heaven
She was real pitchy
royette nunez you spelled incredible wrong.
Andrew J Koehler nah, I know how to spell "pitchy" right.
A part of vocal beauty is flaws!! sometimes the most technical vocals lack feeling. no one cares that she's a pitchy but you.
I know it's been 2 years, but if you're watching in 2019,
Royette don't know s***.
