Beautiful.
I have a theory: Suzume's mission to close these doors must be in response to the calamities and unusual phenomenon that happened in Japan like the comet that wiped out Itomori or the non-stop torrential rain that flooded most of the country. Each door does set off a calamity that would escalate if it weren't closed for good, so those doors could have been the ones responsible for setting the stories for those past events in motion.
