You get the alpine mountains of Switzerland, the volcanic peaks of Chile, the fjords of Norway, the rugged coastline of Oregon, and the lovely green hills of England, all in a secluded stretch of land in the middle of the ocean, overlooked by many. I'll visit New Zealand one day. One day..
And a lot of us Kiwi's take it for granted. But please come visit! One of our biggest industries is tourism and it's a great country for it.

To me this shows how much humans are meant to move around. We definitely aren’t meant to wake up, get in a car, drive to a job where we sit at a computer, then drive back home to sit on a couch.

It's something so precious to some, but to others it's just there, nothing.
Why live a life of serving others, eating junk food and having unlimited entertainment, when you can live off the land, spend your entire day outside appreciating nature, and experiencing everything our ancestors have.
I dont believe in any of that, remember that time where, before you were born, that pure darkness and unmoving feeling of relaxation, the feeling of not being aware, I'm sure its comparative to death itself, which is glory.
I believe death will be true freedom in itself, no longer shackled by petty things such as work, food, thirst, sanity.
Take a larger look outside, and think, "Is this real?"
There is no such thing as living with pure FREEDOM, I laugh whenever kids or uneducated adults/teens think their free because they live remotely, far away from natural civilization, clouded with the thought of technology is shackles, when truth be told, the shackles are life itself.
Pain will forever be with you, you're only a slave to your desires, such a pathetic life for such a creature, truly a misery beyond comparison I believe..

I spent a few years living in the Mark Twain National Forest. I cut up trees for heat and cooking, and lived off the grid. Fishing and Hunting for food. I now find myself watching TH-cam on my Note9 and eating KFC. I feel like crap, I have a ton of debt, and work for someone else. Sometimes I wish I was still living in the woods, but am pretty sure my indoor, xbox playing, modern day loving kids wouldn't survive more than a week. I married a city girl, 17 years ago and live in Tampa now. My life has gone through some BIG changes. 🤦🏻♂️
Sounds like you could have some pretty awesome camping trips! Could try to show your kids your passion for the wilds? I know I love to hear anyone be passionate, especially when it's family. Just make sure to focus on showing them what you love, not just enjoying it for yourself! (though nothing wrong with a break back to your basics once in awhile)
You can teach a modern kid to live in nature and there are a bunch of modern families who live off grid. It’s all about passion towards nature and environment, if they don’t have it they won’t like living off grid. Also im sure you still have time to change your life style.

My wife and I live in the US and she also works in NZ. She loves it there and it's beautiful in some areas for sure, but in many ways we prefer the US. It's good to be able to split time between both.
@@ninjaturtles3043 It's no perfect paradise. Not by a long shot. We're still living in a bunch of tiny isolated islands between two tectonic plates. It is pretty beautiful outside of the cities, the air is clear, and the wildlife are mostly friendly and gorgeous. But it can still be a bit of a backwater, have some of the highest domestic violence and teen pregnancy rates in the world, and every human has the capability of being a complete prick.
But yeah, it's a pretty nice place to live. _Especially_ during this pandemic!

@yugen dran Water and electricity absolutely isn't free. All resources aren't free. You just either pay for them with representative effort by spending money or real effort by building infrastructure... Which also takes some money as well for the carefully crafted materials and components.
In these terms, everything about living off the grid is _insanely_ expensive, astronomically more than modern living, even just for day-to-day stuff.
Man how I wish I could live like that, but I know I won't last out there. I really envy this guy; he's living life the way it should be lived - with nature.

As a New Zealander, Fiordland is one of the most beautiful parts of the country, but very rugged and the weather can be dangerous. Take a local of you want to track it! Also don’t go if you don’t like rain because it always rains.

Wow! This would be my dream existence! If I didn’t have to be near a hospital to treat my cancer, I would live like this - off grid, in the wilderness. I LOVE nature and have been pretty self sufficient all my life, often foraging for food in the woods, even when I was a child and had no idea what I was doing, but trusting my instincts. I have tried to instill the same things in my children. Even now, almost 60 years old, I go off camping by myself (with my dog) several times a year. If there is such a thing as reincarnation, I hope to come back as a person who can live this type of life!

I got to have this kind of experience on a small island in lower Alaska when I was 8. We went to help our friends family set up their home and we got to stay for 6 months. I still remember so much from that trip

I appreciate Jonna Jinton bringing rural Sweden alive for me and Warrick for bringing this role alive for me. I think there are so many possible lives we could all choose that would be fulfilling, valuable and are available to us but our worlds are so small and we lack the certainty to pivot into a whole new identity created by living in a whole new world. Generally, I find I develop a healthier identity alone than I do in relationship with any western culture.
They got snow mountains, ocean, fishing river, jungle, forest, beaches, and waves for surfing, all in one place! This is like a landscape that has everything. Where can I download this DLC in my homeland?

@Steve Arthur lol yup, especially where I live here in South Florida. A few years ago it made local news a homeowner was arrested for installing solar panels to his roof and cutting off his connection to the grid. He was jailed and fined, likewise with another man for catching rain water and filtering it. You can even get arrested for feeding homeless ppl.

As a kiwi myself, I've seen very little of Fiordland with my own eyes. It's easy to forget just how big a place it is and how truly untamed and wild most of it still is. Truly awesome. 10/10 visit and do a sounds cruise or something at least once in your life!

@@broms316 no it makes sense because a grid is a common term used by city planners because a grid system is the most efficient way to maintain water pressures, sewage flow, roads, etc. Most rural homes in america are almost off grid housing. The electrical grid is the last thing that connects most rural homes. A fully on the grid home really only applies to urban areas. Rural homes generally run septic for waste, wells for water, propane tanks if any gas at all, and are generally built in ways to reduce the need to heat or cool the home with electricity or gas. Which makes them mostly off the grid. Technicality yes anyone in space would be off the grid because they would have to generate power, take care of their waste, etc. The only thing they cannot do is grow food unless they are Matt Damon.

Crude bio oil distillery, further refing your crude oil into a usable gasoline type liquid. By burning wood, creating creosote oil, and further refining.... extremely slow process on small scale.. So I'm sure he's got some form of income...
What I learned from this is if you want to live like this you'd better be rich.
Nothing is stopping you from saving your money up for a while but you...eat cheap shit, live in a tent somewhere near your work, shower and shave in a bathroom and stack up some money.

Hey, I lived in a 48 square meter apartment for many years down here in NZ too. Not everything's bush out here! But there are definitely some nice spots if you're the type to travel and see the sights. I'm sure there are some wonderful places near you as well. Just go looking!

you dont have to be rich to live like this in NZ, a quad bike costs less then a car, choppers fly into these places all the time for loads of reasons, and usually do more then one thing for more then one person while they are there,

A grass-powered horse or mule, instead of that quad would go better with the remote/environment friendly mind-set.
