I've had a Summer Waves a few years. It's basically trial amd error. Keep chlorine tabs in it and shock every 6 days or so. I use th e powder shock. The pool places will tell you you need this and that...dont listen. These are a little less worrisome. I did add some algaecide once a bun ch of leaves stuck but for the most part some shock and chlorine tabs keep it nice and sparkly....just dont slack and stay on top of it..

Me! We just set it up a few days ago and I am trying to figure out what to do. It has 1,052 gallons. I have both the HTH test strip and the Clorox 3 way test. I used both of them, but I'm not sure what steps I need to take to maintain from this point on. Thank you!
Yes please and thank you! First, do you have a "non-chlorine" shock treatment to recommend? I've never heard of that, but would LOVE a chlorine alternative! Second - our pool has been up 1 week. All levels are in balance, except chlorine is a little low. Our water is getting REALLY CLOUDY, though. Why is that? Any recommendations? It's an Intex 12' x 30", 1,450 gallons (+/- 25 gal). The pump is standard filter pump (530gal/hour). I consider it my "learning pool", as I'd like a larger one in a few years. I also want to learn about filtration options, and in future ditch the chlorine with the larger pool. 😉 💖💖
Help please! These videos have been a great help. My pool only holds about 1000 gallons and I can't seem to find any info on how much chlorine to add?? These tablets look like they are for the large 10,000 gallon pools
azhotmom get a test kit, I’m in same boat as you, I bought 3” tablets and I have 10’ intex. So 1 tab is overkill so I’m going to just take it out after few days maybe, I need to order a test kit
Our pool is small, holds around 2000 gallons. Do I leave the chlorine float (with 1inch tabs in it) in the pool OVERNIGHT while the cover is on it, or do I take the float out at night and put it back in in the morning when I take the cover off? Thanks in advance!
Loving the videos! We had our salt water chlorinator bite the dust yesterday, so I’m converting over to regular chlorine pool, and I know nothing about those 😂 so thanks for the instructions

What do you recommend for a 10x30 pool? I purchased one with a filter and also bought CLOROX Pool&Spa XtraBlue 3-Inch Long Lasting Chlorinating Tablets are one of these tablets too much for this size pool and do I still need to shock it?
No need to shock it if you have the right materials. What you will need is a 1inch chlorine tablets, not 3inch. Make sure the filter that you bought is type A or C. Have fun with your pool!
I'm opening my pool for the second time this summer. I had to drain and clean the pool it would not clear up no matter how much I cleaned it or put chemicals

No filter means its not what he's talking about. Unfortunately Other than some bleach when you fill it you are gonna dump weekly. I wont buy a pool without a filter system. Good luck.

You have to be careful with tablets, most tablets are stabilized chlorine. What happens is over time you will build up cyanuric acid in your pool water which will drive up how much free chlorine is needed to still be effective. I'd recommend just plain liquid chlorine that can usually be found at Menards or other home improvement stores and a pool calculator app that will tell you how much to add based on your size pool and current test results.
You would either add muriatic acid to lower pH or borax to raise pH. Do check your total alkalinity before you do this though because if your TA is high you'll want to lower it which will also usually lower your pH as well. Hope this helps!
Should we ignore cya? I got 900 galon bestway pool. Also what about total chlorine?if it’s a little higher than free chlorine should I just add more chlorine till they both are even and let it drop to safe recommended levels if it goes past normal levels ? Thank you for this helpful video! I"m very new to owning a house with above ground pool. Wondering this ... mine has a vinyl liner. When I "shock" the pool I was told to be careful to not let it settle in one area. Previous owner said to dump it in the pump area. With the intex easy set pools, will we be good to go with the water and treatments for the whole season? I saw somewhere else someone recommending we empty it every 2 weeks! That seems like a big waste of water!!
CYA is helpful to reduce the chlorine from being burned off by the rays of the sun. Be careful though, the higher the CYA the more free chlorine is needed to be effective. And there is no way to lower CYA other than doing a water exchange.
Read on another blog site stated that shock wasn't needed in a intex pool unless alagae is growing. Find out how many gallons your pool is and adding the shock according to that number. You'll probably only need about a 1/2 pound of shock. You can do it weekly or bi-weekly depending on how often you use the pool and the weather. It'll help keep your water sanitized and fight algae. Make sure your pH, alkalinity, and chlorine levels are always in the right ranges.
So I did the shock early this morning and did a test on the water after about 4 hrs from shocking it. My test sample for the chlorine came out to a very dark yellow, almost a gold color. I did remove my chlorine floater last night because the levels were a little on the high side
Joe Negrete can shock the pool while the chlorine floater is in the pool? Also, I have a small 14 ft pool. According to your calculator it’s about 3,500 gallons. Most of the pool Shock bags says use one bag for 13,000 gallon of water. Should I only use part of the shock then? How do I store the rest of the shock?
Joe Negrete where and how do to store the remaining pool shock that is in the bag along with chlorine tablets? I am panicking because I am reading they should be outside in the heat or inside the house because of the gases. So where do you store them safely?
Hello, I got small pool with small light blue mosaic inside. I can get clear water in the pool but the water inside the filter gets light blue colour same as the mosaic after 8 hour filtering. PH and Clorum normal and using algicide. Can you tell me the cause. Can it be the mosaic tearing apart in dust particles? Or is there any kind of algae that has light blue colour?ThanksJorge Dias
He basically suggested use chlorine for sanitization - that can be tablets, granuals, whatever. He also suggested shocking with a non chlorine shock. Those two things aren't related.
I need help! My intex pool (26ftx26ft 52” deep) will not keep chlorine in it. I have added 3 chlorine tablets repeatedly and will not hold a chlorine level. What would you suggest? My Ph level is balanced at 7.3 but will not keep a chlorine level at all
sunlight destroys chlorine, so it often does take a lot of chlorine to keep the level where it should be. We had a very large above ground pool in AZ and despite constantly cleaning and adding chlorine, it still developed a lot of Algea. We changed over to Baquacil and after that it was always clean. However, in RI my dad had a pool kept sparkling clean with chlorine. So if the chlorine doesn't work out, try the Baquacil. This was years ago, but I think it's still sold.
I need u! Lol I'm lost. Help me!!!! I'm new to all of this and have a bored quarantined 2 year old . I get zero reading for chlorine. I have an intex 10 x 30 pool with filter. I think thats 1,185 gallons.. And i have a floater duck thingy with a chlorine tablet. The chlorine is zero ! I added another tab. Still nothing !!! I think ph is a little high too. Grrrr
Hope you figured it out but if not, I have the same pool and use stabilized chlorine granules. I just dissolve them in a bucket and add slowly. I do this every night.
@@chrisposey1618 thank so much for replying. I use chlorine in a floater, so I should also use the clarifier and shock? Also is pH up and down necessary?
So if i have an above ground intex pool that is a little under 15,000 gallons I do not have to worry about calcium hardness? Every time i get the water tested it always says I need it
I think what he's saying is that people monitor calcium hardness because of what the pool is made of. In-ground pools are concrete with tile / grout / coatings. Those coatings are sensitive to water parameters including calcium hardness. Not keeping these parameters in check can degrade the pool coatings. For us above ground pooler owners - our pools are made of vinyl. That material isn't affected by calcium hardness at all. So we don't have to worry about that metric.
Is muratic acid safe to use to lower ph on an Intex pool with salt water chlorine generator? My chlorine level is good and the TA is good. My pH however is over 8
If you buy the chlorine pucks, put one in daily. Shock you should put in and run the pump for 8 hours at night. Once a week. Chlorine is daily, shock is weekly.
So I have a 10' blow up pool, we went on vacation for 2 weeks and we came back and the pool smells horrible! We are going to just dump the water and start over, but is there something I should do to clean it between removing the old water and adding the new water? Thanks! PS this video has been one of the most useful videos I've found for these smaller pools, keep up the good work!
I just purchased a Bestway fast set round pool 18' x 48" deep, 5500gal , I plan on leaving it up year round. I tested the water and the Ph and total Alkainity are both ok, it's my total hardness is high, is there something that will lower it or is it ok. Thank you

Joe Negrete can shock the pool while the chlorine floater is in the pool? Also, I have a small 14 ft pool. According to your calculator it’s about 3,500 gallons. Most of the pool
Shock bags says use one bag for 13,000 gallon of water. Should I only use part of the shock then? How do I store the rest of the shock?
@@yvettesanchez556 I use .25lb of shock for our little pool
How much shock do I add for a 1000 gallon pool?
If I use a non-chlorine shock for the pool do I still use the chlorine tablets in the floater or a different type of tablet?
He basically suggested use chlorine for sanitization - that can be tablets, granuals, whatever. He also suggested shocking with a non chlorine shock. Those two things aren't related.
Are the toss in shock pouches any good??
Great info & delivery,
thank you!
We are installing an Intex 9 x 18 pool and wondered if heating the pool made a differnce with the chemicals? We live in Michigan it's cold up here
Yes it uses the chlorine faster 😩
What about Intex pools that does not have a pump or filter? How to clean it?
Buzz944 I would put new water for every use
Grrrr
I’m asking the same exact question for the same for the same exact pool, and for the same exact reason of bored quarantined kids! Help! Lol
Hope you figured it out but if not, I have the same pool and use stabilized chlorine granules. I just dissolve them in a bucket and add slowly. I do this every night.
Hello I have just bought a intex pool. I want to use saltwater system. What do I need ?
Thanks
how much of a 1 pound bag of shock treatment would you put a 520 gallon pool
I have an above ground pool. I bought clarifier, do I still need to shock?
Yes you still need shock. The clarifier just helps keep the water clear it doesn't sanitize
@@chrisposey1618 thank so much for replying. I use chlorine in a floater, so I should also use the clarifier and shock? Also is pH up and down necessary?
From what I have read you need to use shock and the chlorine tabs. And you need to test your pH and try to keep it balanced
@@chrisposey1618 thanks very much
If I am in a tropical area where I am not taking down my Intex pool, is managing calcium hardness worth doing?
Hmm, reading through the comments with questions, he doesn’t seem to have time to answer questions. I guess you’ll have to ask a local pool store.
What options are available to shock the pool without chlorine
You can use a non chlorinated shock treatment(oxidizer) for your free chlorine and a mineral system(frog system) for your total chlorine.
I love this information, thanks!!
Hello, I have a 10x30 size pool. Should I also be using arm and hummer clear balance tabs?
This is why I'm here... i need help too!!!
@@kyleedugger Thank you sir. That makes sense. I am new to the pool world, I appreciate your comment
No chlorine shock?? What brand?
Liquid chlorine or shock 15x42
Very informative! Thanks for your videos!!
Is muratic acid safe to use to lower ph on an Intex pool with salt water chlorine generator? My chlorine level is good and the TA is good. My pH however is over 8
what is a nonchlorine shock? I bought a chlorox chlorine tablet for my intex. Can I do that?
Hi. How long on an initial run for the filter/pump?
Do you add shock and chlorine at the same time?
If you buy the chlorine pucks, put one in daily. Shock you should put in and run the pump for 8 hours at night. Once a week. Chlorine is daily, shock is weekly.
@@comicbookprodigy995 2 1 inch tablets for a 10x30 pool u only need to add every 2 weeks or by testing the water
Hey! I have an intex set up 10x30 pool which is 1500 gallons of water but I dont know how to figure out how much of the chemicals to use :O help!
Did u figure it out ? I need help

Thank you
an 18" x 48" pool is not 5500 gallons, it's closer to 8000, or 7600 by the chart. I have the same pool
@@brads1204 Don't forget to measure the water depth. A 4 ft pool could have a water depth of 3.5 feet, or something else.
