    Getting out on the road is what Linda and I love to do with our converted cargo trailer camper. We're part time nomads and the nomadic lifestyle suits us to a Tee. Whether your RV is a camper van, camp trailer, travel trailer, motorhome or just a car and a tent, there's going to be something interesting for you in the videos we produce. Back roads and overlanding are part of what we do while exploring the western states for beautiful, peaceful and sometimes remote places to camp on BLM and National Forest land (public land). Taking care of ourselves as much as possible and doing our own repairs is a must because we travel on a fixed income and a limited budget. If you're into being off-grid and boondocking or doing dispersed camping whenever possible then you'll appreciate the discussions on batteries, solar panels and solar chargers or power stations and 12v refrigeration. Come on along, we're happy to have your company!

    My daddy and brother mined near Pioche, Nevada. Late in life, dad did mining science that was super interesting. I have garnet, platinum and silver dad gave me. Mom said dad had a claim on the largest tungsten load ever seen in those parts, but dad never ever had any money. I loved that ornery old coot. He's been gone almost 10 years.

      I built those types of mountain roads with my father and brother since the 1960's. Most people never give a second thought on how they are built and the dangers involved. We used D-8 caterpillars, Finning tank rock drill for blasting and excavators. We had to cut right of way first, install culverts and bridges..

    Very cold air indicates a vertical shaft.
    That banging sound is a metal vent being blown in a breeze. It likely goes up above where you are and exits higher up the mountain., As the outside warm air passes over the opening it moves the pipe causing the banging sound as it slaps against the shaft.
    Yes, you are right. The track to the building is to load ore into an ore truck.
    When I lived in Nevada and Montana, I explored a lot of mines. That was before the U.S. Forest Service and BLM sealed them off like these two you showed us.
    One always has to be careful as many times you could walk into them and have a vertical shaft in the darkness that drops straight down thousand feet or more.
    I have been in some that we would enter and use ropes to drop down to the lower levels. One of them took all of our 600-foot rope we had with us to get to the bottom. We repelled down then explored the area. It was very interesting and very dangerous as well. I know of one in Nevada that is over 1000 feet straight down and have been in it to the 400-foot level.
    I do NOT recommend someone entering one of these or any other mine, unless they have professional training on how to do it safely and even then, it is a life-threatening risk.
    FYI: Quartz is a good sign if you are looking for gold.

    • @gonagain
      @gonagain  ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right. That mine connects vertically with the one below and, I'm sure the one(s) above. I watch the videos of folks who know what they're doing exploring these mines, but I have no desire to do that myself. Being a pilot, I like blue sky!

    • @kevinamsteam7816
      @kevinamsteam7816 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gonagain hahaha I loved it underground! And yeah, it is always cool in those. The earth is cool inside and if you put in air vents then you get a draft and that makes it feel even cooler. But when you have vertical shafts then you draw up that cool air form there as well and it is a little like a wind tunnel. Anyway, I loved doing it and your video brought back a lot of memories of those times. Thank you for doing them. I think I have seen all of yours now and I truly enjoy each one.

    Yikes, that was a deep mine shaft!
    Wonder if someone was working inside the mine that was making noise? Maye there is another entrance? It did say active mine. Or maybe an animal fell in through a vent shaft and is stuck inside? Or maybe someone is held prisoner in there and is banging on pipes trying to get someone's attention? My imaginations gone wild.... LOL

    Another great adventure Rick and Linda! You’re correct, that trestle with the one rail was for running ore cars out to dump ore into the hopper. When I was a young man in the ‘60’s I worked in a primitive underground mine here in Oregon. We cut cedar on the mountain above the shaft for ties and shoring, laid the rails for the ore cars and hand mucked the ore into the cars after drilling and blasting the face. Then we walked up out of the shaft and start a diesel donkey engine that would winch the car out by means of a cable. After dumping in the hopper we’d ride the car back down the shaft. What a ride! Sometimes we’d fly off the rails on the corners. Just like Disneyland 😝. All for $2.25/hr. Crazy, huh?

    I used to work underground in a coal mine for Peabody Coal Company back in the 70s and I would say the building with the lizard in it was probably what we called the kitchen, for taking breaks and eating our lunch! Ours were set up underground because we were about 3 and a half miles back in the mine and it took us an hour each way to get there and back! Those old mines like that were usually just a few hundred feet in and the men could come outside to eat their lunch!

    If you guys come to Reno, I also own some Fiido e-Bikes, 3 actually, but if you want to see some beautiful scenery & the Pyramid Tahoe Bike Path, which is 113 miles long, I'll show you guys around, been living in Nevada since I moved here from Chicago in 2006.

      That sounds like fun! Fiido is another very good company and they are planning on coming out with some 26" ebikes. Are you aware of the T1 recall for a faulty frame? They're sending out new bikes to those affected.

    I believe the deep hole/grate you found is a ventilation shaft for the mine. It’s the reason you hear air and noises. There are very likely large fans running deep inside the mine. Ground water is cold, it’s constantly being drained and pumped out. You’re hearing fans and/or water pumps kicking on and off. Mine air moves at a high velocity and low temperatures. Another great adventure!

      @@GypsyJvan I can’t speak to this mine in particular because there’s no way to know which mine this is. But, many Nevada mines do have electricity service. The USGS has approved companies converting geothermal energy (hot water) into usable voltage (electric service).

    I hope I'm asking a legitimate question I hear you talk about shooting and hunting seasons and so forth when they're open in different states wondering if you were just a shooter are you a hunter are you afraid to say that you hunt because of the backlash are you not giving us an honest opinion of your whole lifestyle I just wonder I love watching your videos but is it just that you shoot targets and you know when they are hunting seasons open or you just don't talk about yourself hunting worried about people not being on your viewership with TH-cam we should be a shame I know how they want to silence all of us

    That barrel on top of the rocks looks like it is set up as a fire pit. It would warm the area up real nice I would think. That banging noise sounded like it was in one place and not moving around as if it was from a machine or some kind. Maybe they have something set up to run with solar power that makes noise. You never know if there are cameras or sensors set up to be used to trigger the noise. Thanks for sharing your adventure.

    • @gonagain
      @gonagain  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching, see you on the next video! (There was a thud sound from further in the mine that didn't make it on camera. That's what really spooked us.)

  • @ernestpaul2484
    @ernestpaul2484 ปีที่แล้ว

    After Rick and Linda's "test toss" of the rock to determine how deep the hole/shaft was, it wasn't long before follow-on explorers filled up the hole with "test toss" rocks of their own. So many rocks were tossed, that there was a surplus of rocks that formed a dome over the former hole. Those rocks were then used to fill in the erosion ruts in the trail leading to the mines.

  • @playhooky

    I have to wonder if there is another opening to the mine that if/when the wind hits it just right it causes the bursts of air to shake some of the old stuff in there. Now that made for an exciting and interesting video! I probably would have had a heart attack had I been there in person!

    • @gonagain

    Hello I'm going to build a trailer similar to Goneagain for similar use (off road) which; is more suitable a 7 ft wide or 8 ft?. Would appreciate input. Thanks

    • @gonagain
      @gonagain  ปีที่แล้ว

      My 6' is too wide for some roads and I have the scratches to prove it! But the wheelbase width of a 6' cargo trailer is the same as the 7' trailer. No way I would go offroad with an 8' wide trailer.

      Just something really profound my 16 year old said to me years ago..after a spay in front of her ..she could not wait to hopefully meet and have a relationship like ours..she hopes to meet not only someone she not only could live with...but more importantly someone like us that we could not and would n't want to live without..like you and grandpa cause you always want to make sure that one another's needs and wants come first......Linda and you are absolutely a true example of true and real love....
