Hello, I am very impress with your vidao.
+cricketmerchant:
1) Y is it not preferred to hit 90 degrees on the bottom of the bat? how is it damaging? Can i knw the technical reason behind it pls.
2) Also, how much time should I leave the bat after oiling to dry it?
3) is it recommended to knock even at the back of the bat?
+Thuhin Raj Das answer in numbers
1) chances are you may split or crack the edge
2) 24 to 36 hours to dry
3) only playing area requires knocking
The best knocking video there is!
Thanks alot man. It was really helpful
Hello sir,
I follow all your videos they have very valuable inputs.
I have recently bought a SS master 5000 bat with 7 grains on it.
I just want to know few things veru clearly before knocking as it is expensive bat and cannot afford to buy an another one if something goes wrong with my knocking.
1)Do i have to oil and keep the bat aside for some time to gain its moisture to gain back(if so for how long shall i keep it aside and which condition(outdoor or indoor).
2)As you have mentioned in the video you said you have to knock it for 6 to 7 hrs, so it it ok if i knock my bat for 1 hour a day fpr 7 days amd then take it to nets before playing,or is it fine to knock it for 1 hour and have a 30 minutes net session(bola machine) a day, for a week time?
3)which of the following is recommended,
Knocking in the middle or put an antiscuff sheet and toe tip(as ther were many debates on not good knocking in middle).
4) lastely how often do i have to oil my bat after thins process.
Will be awainting for your valuable response and thanks in advance.😊
Knocking is not an hours thing.... It is a feel thing..... No one touches ur bat so hours don't matter. What matters is how the bat feels ready or not.
i have bought a new ss ton bat. so how to start knoking? first with oil or wooden mallet or a leather ball?
Hey i got 2 Wombats cricket bats imported from Australia..both are having Fiber tapes on their faces..and i really dont want to remove them as they perfectly fitted over the bats..so is it necessary to oil them and if yes, then how can i oil them if the fiber tape is there..? and if oiling isnt possible in such case then can i continue with the knocking only? please reply me asap as i need to prepare them before mid of june..!! and one more thing..as both the bats came with fibre tapes over them, so is it possible to knock them with the tape stick over them?
Sab, you do not need to remove fiber tape. Apply oil in all exposed willow area.
cricketmerchant alright thanx...and i have already started hammering both of them as told by u in the video..and rounded the edges to some extend..but can you that how many time do i need to hammer them per day? and till how many days??
Sab -E
A bat would need approximate 6 hours of total knocking before it is ready for a game.
ok bro..thanx alot..:D..!!
When we buy a new bat....Should we start knocking process after 3 coating of oil...or we can start knocking after 1st coat of oil...what u recommend...
How long do you recommend I knock in each edge for?
not too much or else you may endup delaminating the bat.
I have purchased a kashmir willow bat... Should it requires knocking and oiling?? What should we do first knocking or oiling?? And oiling should do with stickers or we have remove the sticker??
I recently bought a bat saying ready for use. Does it still need knocking in or can I use it now.
you still need to knock...for better results and good bat life....
Santosh Guduru you are so true.. Matthew, yes knocking is essential for good performance. Once you start knocking you will start seeing dent's on the soft willow.. keep it pressing until those dent start disappearing.
nice video learnt a lot. i recently bought a new balance dc 580 so what do you recommend? how should i go with it? should i buy a scuff sheet and edge tape even though i dont play very often just 5 6 times in a month
please reply whats the process of oiling? does oiling makes the bat never to be oiled again?
***** i have a new balance dc 580 and it came with anti scuff sheet so how should i oil it or knock it? And do new balance make thir own bat?
salam thanks a lot it really helped but tell me that can i use any oil example coconut oil etc plzzz tell me ☺
Linseed oil is recommended
Use non-processed(raw) linseed oil. Hanging ball will knock the bat, use a wooden mallet or give fielding and catching practice (30 min sessions) for next 15 days.
Use only linseed oil
A
Do you have to take of your Plasic bat cover before knocking it in?
Yes, you can't oil a plastic
Hi, thanks for your earlier reply. I had a quick question tho, I purchased some linseed oil from amazon and I'm a lil worried that it's not the right oil, any way to tell the difference between the right oil? The label on the bottle says cricket bat oil from SS and the supplier has already disappeared off amazon.
if the oil is from SS it may be a good oil. you can check out site cricketmerchant.com to compare the product by looking at the picture.
plz help me. I have a sg bat. should I oil it first or knock it first ? .
oil.
Thanks for the lovely training session. I successfully knocked 2 bats.
Hope I was able to help!
cricketmerchant yeah :)
started knocking my third bat
2 days back.

Is it ideal to do oiling and knocking and again oiling and knocking repeatedly say 2 ti 3 times?
I really like your review videos how come you are not making any new ones lately?!
jassi445 It has been crazy but will sure try to upload new video's
Can me hit the bat immediately after ripping the oil ? For English Willow bat , please say answer me
Your video is probably the best detailed explained. I do have a question tho. How can you tell if the cricket bat needs oil or not. I just purchased a brand new one and I'm not sure if it's pre oiled or not...
If you do not see wood hair fragments on the bat surface; front or back, you do not need oiling. If you bat weight is decreased compare to when you purchased, wood has lost moisture and shall require oiling. Hope it helps.
While knocking bat , is it ok to maintain cover tape on bat and hammer on it
Brilliant and informative video..Thanks..One doubt how long should I keep the bat after oiling it first time before going for knocking session?
ragesh nair keep it for minimum 24 hour or until you feel the surface non-oily.
Once you knock in ur bat, do you ever have to knock it again?
And if you apply the face cover... will there be any reason to take it off, like if you want to knock again or apply oil to the face?
Once knocked bat does not require knocking. After putting face cover, one can still apply oil in all exposed wood area of the bat. Recommendation is to oil once in a year before start of the season.
should i put face cover before knocking or after knocking?
if you are going to oil put it after the oil settles in.. or once the surface is not oily.
Hi I wanted to know that once you have knocked in your toe of the bat will the mallet spring off like the middle of the bat or will it still be the same? Please help
No Toe is the most week portion of the bat. One will never get enough power from toe. As long as it is pressed well, you will avoid damage.
Ok thanx
Very informative thanks for the video I already damaged my bat now I know why.
Great guidance, My question is I started knocking in new bat, 48 hrs after 3rd coat (oil), can i put on xtratec after 3 times of oil or after completing knocking in, because it provides better protection for the bat? Thanking you.
+brizzy ran You can put it on after the bat dries out. If you put it prior to that, xtratec may come off.
How long should you leave the oil on the bat for ?
after applying each quote leave the bat for at least 24 hrs
@@cricketmerchant how many quotes
@@rajkumar-le1zb one or max two
GM 707 Kaha seems to be pre-knocked bat and also has some plastic layer on it...does it require knocking and oiling?
Just take it to the nets and start playing with old ball for 2-3 nets sessions. You can than take it to game. Make sure to play nice and not hit crazy shots during those net sessions. Good Luck.
I bought a Ca Plus 5000 bat. It says it is fully knocked. Do I still need to knock it?
Sakib Khandker no
Sakib Khandker ya you have to I am a cricketer so I know but carefully
Sakib Khandker All bats come factory knocked but you need to get bat knocked properly before use.

sir what called yourbase of bat of plastic cover called and price of them may this base plastic cover fit on every bat
for how many days we should knock the bat ? please reply
max 6 oto 7 hours if you do not go in net practice twice a day. If you do net practice twice a day and bat for 2 hours every day you can manually hand knock the bat for two hours and play it in nets.
Technical Abhishek pool
7-8 hours tops and you can use it in matches, while most of the SS and SG bats now a days just needs minimal knocking to round up the edges and ready to play
sir I have purchased a new English willow bat I.e. SS-supremo of price 5000,its grains are05but not in strate way, so just I wanted to know that will it work long or not
when do you know the bat is ready to play with after oiling, and knocking ?
When you hear sweet sound in the middle and bottom
No seam mark after bouncing new ball on bat
Do you oil on the stickers too? And if you put antiscuff sheet what do you do next season? remove it and oil or oil it over the sheet? Thanks
No we do not oil on stickers. Antiscuff sheet can be removed carefully to get it ready for next season. Lite coat is needed each year and you don't have to remove scuff sheet.
@@cricketmerchant thank you so much the advice.best of luck.cheers
How to know the bat well knocjed
Sir i bought a new sg bat....tell me that how much time i should knowk it... N how many days i should knowk it
maximum 5-6 hours with breaks not at a stretch. .
nipun ji kashmir willow bat should be oiled ?
Yes, you can oil Kashmir Willow.
I ve got the new balance dc 580 just today, now as i know knocking and oiling is very very important and i would like to do both of them perfectly on my bat but as the bat came it has anti scuff protector on it by default so i cant oil it and how should i knock
Please tell what should i do? Should i start playing without oiling and knocking or i can knock on the bat and play without oiling?
Hey I loved this video, very useful! Please tell me how long I need to knock in for? Thanks!
We suggest to work on it for max 6 hours... with that said, more you knock you may end up softening up the willow upper surface, which is not good for the willow. Knock it for 5-6 hours and than let the game or practice take care of the rest.
cricketmerchant Ok, thanks for helping!
When I knock it, my mallet leaves brown marks. What should I do? I have a SG max cover bat and how do I oil it?
Swapnil Jain This is not a good bat, it is covered with poly cloth to hid the lowest quality willow. Brown marks appear because of mallet clear brown polish.
Brilliant.... and its very helpful thanks mate
Thank you.
I have Michele Clarke 329 English willow, I need to oil it but I don't have linseed oil so can I use any oil does it matter?
dhrumil vasetha it matters
make a video about how to buy and choose a cricket bat.
Good suggestion, will look into this, may be this would be more helpful to most.
How long do you suggest the whole "knocking in" process will take for each area and all together???
I think you should make a video how to buy and select new bàts of good quality
Agree, i will add a video on that.
Hey guys, I just tested out y bat and Seam Marks started to appear, can I get rid of the marks by knocking it? Or will it always be there?
Thanks!
can't we..just..complete our knocking with the use of knocking machine..!! without oiling..first..?
Yes you can. To avoid hair line cracks on bat face, oiling is preferred prior to knocking.
@@cricketmerchant what if you have a anti scuff sheet on
@@xyzphysics2306 You can remove it with heat gun or knock on top to that.
@@cricketmerchant Thanks for your reply
Sir I have a adidas bat english willow
Its best bat or not
I think easy to knock or not??
pls send a video how to knock a bat with a ball
best way to do this is give catch and fielding practice.
How many coats of oil before knocking a bat in? Apparently some bats are already oiled and knocked in...how would you know if it as pre-knocked in?
Shaf Hussain depending on willow, if it is too dry, 2 to 3 coat max. Most manufacture advertise it as Ready to Play, we recommend to knock in the bats as they are only machine pressed. GM is one company who we can stay by when the bats says knocked and factory prepared. You can use new GM bats in nets with old ball and have the ball do the rest. Most Asian bat brands are machine pressed and requires knocking and 1 or 2 coat of oil.
Thanks for the reply
Shaf Hussain welcome
After 7 days of knocking in my bat, I tried it out in the nets today..the sweet spot is fine. However I feel vibrations in the bat handle upon impact of the ball on the toe end of the bat. How can I eliminate this problem?
Shaf Hussain which brand bat is it and what is the willow grade?
can we use wood hammer before oiling?
Yes but ball or wooden hammer ;)
I have a question....recently I bought a Reebok English willow bat which was not oiled or factory knocked.
So I knocked in the bat properly but did not oil it,..so my question is whether or not I should oil my bat after it has been knocked in?
Yes you can oil a bat before or after. If you start knocking an extra dry willow, you might start seeing hairline cracks along the grains.
Canwe do this with tennis bat? Plz plz reply
Ramen Phukon no only with leather ball
i bought a spartan cg authority 2014 model bat is it nesccesary to knock it ??

I bought kashmir willow bat and it has got protection tape on it...how do i oil the bat or is it ok to knock it straight away....
What An English 👍🏽❤️
cricketmerchant once you oil your bat how many hours do you have to wait until u can start knocking it? And I had purchased a gm zona 909 EW with gm now (pre knocked) and I knocked it for 3h but when I went in the nets yesterday with an old ball and I noticed a dent in the edge and it was toward the toe part of the bat! Is that something I Hav to worry about?
no need to worry. GM bats are probably the best in market that is actually hand knocked.
it is true
I am from Nepal we may get the hammer and the leather ball but I dont think that we may get the oil that you use. Can we do it with some other oils or what?
You must use linseed oil or cricket bat oil or else you bat will rot
Nice video
Can a bat be knocked using just the leather ball mallet alone ? I mean what if someone uses the leather part of the ball (and not the seam) for the complete knocking process ?
Ended up breaking my new bat💔
Very good
Good job bro *claps
plz tell me that for how much time should i continue with knocking a bat approx...

i have oiled it,knocked it,but havent used it,..can i oil it again and give it some knock again????
I have a gm bat with a face on it. Should I apply linseed oil on the face and is it necessary to apply the oil?
Big Cricket Basher No need to apply oil on top of the face, only apply on the wood, front and back. Not even on sticker.
Great video, sometimes after knocking the bat i see cracks near the grain lines, is it because of overknocking? How does a completely knocked bat by wooden mallet looks like, do you have pictures of before and after, i dont see any seam marks but still when i hit with ball it doesnt feel completely knocked, any pointers
Does the ball leave any seam marks? Try putting your fingernail in the wood, if you can easily leave a dent, you need to knock it in more. Your bat is completely knocked in if you can’t leave a mark with your fingernail, and you can hit the ball hard without any seam marks then it should be good. Don’t be afraid to spend a long time, over knocking is better than under knocking.
Is the crack vertical or horizontal? If it’s vertical or along the grain, you may need to knock more. If it’s horizontal, you won’t need to worry, bats naturally crack after a while.
Hey Just bought a SG pheonix extreme kashmir willow bat. Few questions I have , is this a good bad. I see a sticker on the face of the bat which looks like a willow grain, as per your previous commecnts i understand that i have to apply the oil on visible wood. However can I knock it over this grain looking sticker, or shall i remove it if possible . Please reply. I am already excited after watching this video. Thanks.
Thank a lot nipun for quick reply... Thanks I will follow your advise
I have an sg extreme kashmir willow bat...can i do the same thing for that?
3-4 coats? Does that mean we have to coat same amount of oil for three continuous days (overnight to dry).Do MRF genius PS bats also require 3-4 coats? I just bought an MRF genius PS and require your guidance. Your videos are of a great help thanks a lot :)
Over oiling will damage the bat. One will have to judge when oiling. Maximum would be 3 coats and if required can do during the season. Again over oiling will damage the bat. All bat that origin from Asia will require oiling. GM bats are per-oiled but does require oiling mid season. If you start seeing hair like fragments of the willow, bat requires oiling.
What r u doing after 5 yrs?? Still playing?😄
If we already have the face cover on bat and we are said not to oil it now so can we still continue making strokes or need to remove the face cover and then oil it and then make it
If you are comfortable to remove it go ahead if not, you can still knock on the face scuff sheet and oil the remaining part of exposed willow.
sir i bought CA 12000, it have a protector on it. can i remove it before knocking.?? is it necessary to remove protector before knocking? also tell me about hairline crack.. what do u mean by hairline crack? i think you are talking about when bat grains look like starched ?? am i right ??. please reply.
You can still oil it without removing the face. Apply oil in exposed wood area but not on the face. Hairline cracks are indication that your bat has opened up and has the best ping/power that it can produce.
Thank you for ur reply
Hi mate, one quick question... will I still need to oil my bat if it has a protective sheet on? Thanks for your time.
Yes you can in the exposed willow area
Thanks mate. I’ve got protective sheet everywhere Thanks!
Hi, your video is very helpful, just had one question. .. I have bought a Ton bat and it is pre-prepared I was told only to apply a very thin coat of oil before knocking it in .. is this true or should I do normal oiling?
You can apply one thin coat and once dry can start knocking. if you feel that the bat is still dry add another thin coat. Do not over oil, once coat at a time. Max two thin coat.
if once we have done with the knocking process...then we have need of knocking in future..pls reply
Thanks sir for your to this help
Sir what u said all I understand thanku make some more videos like this
hi sir which bat your using.. its looking good... and where you did buy
MACE Skull Exploder. www.cricketmerchant.com/shop/product/mace-skull-exploder-cricket-bat?category=144
Hi, I bought a new SS Ton Gold bat and paid for a 24 hour knocking in service, after which they applied the scuff sheet on the face of the bat. However, the bat has not been oiled. I can still oil the back and the sides, but is this a potentially very bad situation that the face hasn't been oiled? If so, is there a way oil the bat now - should I actually try and rip the sheet off and then pay for a new one? Thank you!
How, Nipun? The scuff sheet is on the face of the bat. Should I ignore the face, remove the scuff, or apply over the scuff?
Understood. I'll ignore the front, then. Thank you!😃
Nipun Joshi sir reply
Also please explain me what is knots in cricket bat and it's advantage and disadvantage

can we do oiling in an another oil if yes than which oil
Nice video sir..
I bought PR BAT.. is it necessary to oil PR BAT before knocking if yes then my bat's face has already covered with anti- scuffed sheet..what should i have to do to oil the bat?
All bats do require some knocking. Yes you can knock the bat with face sheet on
Please give me tips for NEW BALANCE TC 550+ bat...
please
My new balance already has a bat face tape stuck on it do I need to remove it before knocking. Will it damage the bat since is bat face stickering is glued on to the willow
you can remove the scuff sheet and knock only if you are going to oil the bat. If you are not planning to oil, you can keep the scuff sheet on. Good luck!
I HAVE SS SMASHER & SG COBRA GOLD.
I WANT TO SEASON IT....!!
HOW TO OLIL IT....?
SHALL I USE LAMP OIL OR MUSTED OIL...?
Do NOT use lamp oil/mustard oil on your bat! Raw Linseed oil is the only oil you can use on a cricket bat.
Sir,I've bought an english willow Sg bat and knocked a little bit and applied fibre glass tape on the face, shall i continue to knock on inspite of the fibre glass tape on the face of the bat?
Yes, you can continue knocking with fiber tape on.
@@cricketmerchant thanknu very much for ypur kind reply sir
Thanks for your video both on knocking a bat and oiling of bat. I have two questions if you can help me. 1) I don't have a linseed oil so can I use any other simple oils? as I heard people uses any oils.. 2) when I purchased a bat I have transparent sticker kind of things at bottom of the bat do I need to remove it during oiling? and if it needs to remove do we need to put it back?. I noticed that sticker in your knocking video but not in oiling bat video.
Thanks for help in advanced
You should apply fibre tape or facing tape ( aka the transparent sticker ) after oiling and knocking is done
Dont buy bats with sticker already on bat
this method can be used in tennis ball?
Sir please guys us about stick the stock sticker on bat is good for batting or not
Hey I recently bought a bat he said it’s pre knocked should I still need the bat to be knocked ??? And it already has a face tape British tape on it so can I knock the bat on it.
Knocking is required on bats that are in new condition
