There's a few reasons Sooyoung is front in this song. Firstly this was primarily their Japanese comeback although you watched their Korean version. Sooyoung sings a lot more on GG Japanese songs since she is the most fluent. Second this is a dance based song and she is part of the dance line with Hyo, Yoona and Yuri
Also she took some Jessica's original lines

Your reaction was everything I hoped it would be and more! I only just realized it watching your reaction, but CMIYC also sounds like a goodbye song, but a more positive one. The lyrics "I'm going to find my heart" and "catch me if you can" are really fitting of Jessica wanting to spread her wings outside the group and follow her other passions. Divine was the sad and heart-wrenching goodbye song, but the song that was /supposed/ to be the real goodbye is actually really hopeful and empowering. Oh how I wish we had gotten that series of events instead of what really happened :(
If you're interested, there is a live version of CMIYC that they performed on one music show as a b-side for their Party comeback. They also performed Check (the b-side of the Party single) live on music shows too! Highly recommend both. The CMIYC performance is cool because there wasn't an official fanchant, but Sone who were there made one up anyway :) And if you react to the Check performance from Inkigayo, Sooyoung styled their outfits ;)
You're exactly right about ITNW ballad version being after Jessica left. It was from Tokyo Dome, the concert Jessica was supposed to be at as her final goodbye. Even with all the drama and sadness of 2014, 2015 was still one of my favorite years for SNSD. We had CMIYC, Party, then Lion Heart/You Think as a double title track comeback. So so good. We even got a mega-teaser before Party with clips of Party, Lion Heart, and You Think. We got Channel Soshi and lots of great variety appearances as well. It was a really great year.
