    Thank you so much for this video! I am a middle-aged woman and have not even thought of a lot of math I learned in school. Now that I will be becoming a classroom assistant, I need to brush up on things. I certainly wish we had tutorials like this when I was in school. Math might not have been so terrifying to me!

    There might be a catch when you try this and the number on the right happens to be larger than the one on the left.
    Here's a graphical representation of how to deal with such problem:
    Find the GCF of 702 and 507.
    702 - 507 = 195 (subtract and shift the last two down)
    ↓ ↓
    507   -   195 = 312 (same thing again, but notice that the difference is bigger than the subtrahend)
    ↓  ˢʷᶦᵗᶜʰ  ↓
    312   -   195 = 117 (for this reason, simply switch them and subtract them as before)
      ↓ ↓
    195   -   117 = 78   (now it's normal again, so subtract and shift down)
       ↓ ↓
    117   -   78 = 39  (now you can probably tell that 39 goes into 78 two times, so 39 is the GCF)
    If you have problems reading this (I used a lot of special characters to format this), then tell me, I will give you the raw version.

    • @Tsskyx
      @Tsskyx 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Well, you need to calculate the modulo, so if the smaller number fits into the larger one no more than once, then you can subtract them. In other cases, you have to divide and find a remainder.

    • @RBLXGiveaway
      @RBLXGiveaway 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but since 195 can be divided in to 507 more than once you have to divide. I don’t know why you subtracted

    Great! In other words,
    THIS IS HOW TO SIMPLIFY FRACTIONS THE EASIEST WAY:
    If the difference between the numerator and denominator is 1, the fraction cannot be simplified.
    A. Ask: does the numerator go into the denominator evenly (i.e. without any remainder)?
    If yes, proceed to B.
    If not, proceed to C.
    B. Great! The simplest fraction is 1 over the number of times the numerator fits in the denominator. (e.g. 20/60, 20 fits evenly 3 times, hence 1/3.)
    C. Write the remainder, (e.g. 20/46, (20 fits 2 times in 46, with a remainder of) 6.) to the right of the fraction, and ask: does the remainder go evenly into the numerator?
    If yes, proceed to D.
    If not, proceed to E.
    D. Great! The "remainder" is the Greatest Common Factor. Divide both the numerator and denominator by the GCF/remainder to have the simplest fraction.
    E. Write the "new remainder" (using the last example, 20/46, 6 fits into 20 with a "new remainder" of 2) to the right of the previous "remainder", and ask: does the "new remainder" fit evenly into the previous "remainder" (2 into 6)?
    If yes, proceed to D.
    If not, proceed to E.

      This is a really late comment, but to get a remainder, the work has to be on paper. Only then will you get your answer. The calculator only comes out as a decimal, which is probably confusing you.
