The best video I’ve seen for introduction to sailing!
Harold has been sailing and building boats for decades. He’s one of the best teachers you could find.
Hello Harold!
It was great speaking with you this evening. Your boats remind me of the Herreshoff 12½ my favorite small boat of all time!
Hi Rich, yes, Captain Nat's boats are legendary.
Great lesson. It is so good to see you being filmed from another boat, so often these videos are filmed from within the boat and it is hard to see what is going on. Also great microphone.
Such a great video. Totally under rated.
Many thx for this vid and what a lovely little boat
Excellent simple instruction. Thanks. Looks like a beautiful place.
Great instructions and a great instructor.
Superb. Thank you!
That was the best video I've watched yet. It's inspired me to keep at my little dinghy and learn the craft. Thank you very much
You are so welcome!
Easy to understand basics Harold , thank you so much . Plus I love the simple designs and clean lines of the Whitehall Spirits , they look like they would be best to learn in , cheers from NZ .
Good to hear! learning anything is a process that makes things simple to understand and perform! 〰🐳〰
This is the best video of all the ones I have watched so far. I come from a windsurfing background and I am considering buying a Skipper14.
Thanks so much for this video as it has explained all
So exciting! So many people love buying, Rowing, and selling our boats. Please reach out through our website if you want to talk to someone and learn more.
Such clear instruction. Thank you from Japan!
Thank you for your kind comment! 👍
Wonderful boats and lovely video.
Well instructed. Thanks for a refresher.
Harold is a great teacher!
A good looking boat. Well done.
Very informative thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Perfect for a beginner, so clear. I have just begun learning to sail my 8ft OzRacer RV dinghy (balance lug) and really appreciate the tips and guidance here
Glad it was helpful!
BRINGS BACK huge memories -- had one 16'-0" in the 80's
Do you know where it is now? These boats are built to last for generations. Many of our boats built in the 80s are still being rowed, used and enjoyed today!!
Thanks Harold
Beautiful little boats!
Good Stuff Harold!
....looks similar to an Oslo dinghy
Very classic 👏👏👏🌹🐺🐻
They should call you Silk, pulling up to the dock was too smooth! lol
Beautiful little boats. Would love to have one but am in Australia. Nice sailing instructions. Thanks.
We ship these boats all over the world, and have had a number of people purchase our boats down under!
Thanks for the excellent video Harold. Just one thing ,I don’t see any reefing points on your mainsail . Any reason ?
Thx for your comment!
Reef points are an option … they are standard on the 17’ sailing models!
Thank you
Fine looking craft. Do the sails have reef points?
Jiffy reefing is an option on all ceiling models, except for the 17 classics where it is standard.
It's also worth mentioning that jibbing is when you're most likely to capsize the boat, break the boat, and/or break a skull.
You definitely need to duck you head if it’s above the boom when gybing but most boats are not likely to capsize unless you are sailing in very high wind and waves. 〰🚣♀️〰
pretty sweet boat
Would the Tyee be a better sailor due to more volume aft??
Also which model rows better?
The sailing efficiency of the boat itself on a small boat depends largely on the weight of the crew. In this regard a fuller hull sails slightly better and is also more comfortable with more than one person aboard.
What if you capsize the boat ?
Can you recover it without additional buoyancy?
All these boats are fully buoyant and rerightable but there is considerable bailing involved …
😊
It’s like going to the mountains
Can anyone tell me what type of wood this boat might be made of?
Exquisite lapstrake hand laid fiberglass hull with teak woodwork and bronze fittings … designed and built the last 100 years.
Thank you, Sir.@@haroldaune9160
Hello
Gunter rig, not lug. The top most timber is a spar not a lug.
On a Gunter rig the spar stands vertical … This is a non-dipping lug rig.
@@haroldaune9160 I have a little 9' gunter rigged Curlew. Thank you for a very well filmed video.
