      Harold has been sailing and building boats for decades. He’s one of the best teachers you could find.

    Hello Harold!
    It was great speaking with you this evening. Your boats remind me of the Herreshoff 12½ my favorite small boat of all time!

      Do you know where it is now? These boats are built to last for generations. Many of our boats built in the 80s are still being rowed, used and enjoyed today!!

    Great lesson. It is so good to see you being filmed from another boat, so often these videos are filmed from within the boat and it is hard to see what is going on. Also great microphone.

    That was the best video I've watched yet. It's inspired me to keep at my little dinghy and learn the craft. Thank you very much

    Easy to understand basics Harold , thank you so much . Plus I love the simple designs and clean lines of the Whitehall Spirits , they look like they would be best to learn in , cheers from NZ .

    This is the best video of all the ones I have watched so far. I come from a windsurfing background and I am considering buying a Skipper14.
    Thanks so much for this video as it has explained all

    Thanks for the excellent video Harold. Just one thing ,I don’t see any reefing points on your mainsail . Any reason ?

    • @haroldaune9160
      @haroldaune9160 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thx for your comment!
      Reef points are an option … they are standard on the 17’ sailing models!

    It's also worth mentioning that jibbing is when you're most likely to capsize the boat, break the boat, and/or break a skull.

    • @haroldaune9160
      @haroldaune9160 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You definitely need to duck you head if it’s above the boom when gybing but most boats are not likely to capsize unless you are sailing in very high wind and waves. 〰🚣‍♀️〰

  • @skeating2818
    @skeating2818 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Fine looking craft. Do the sails have reef points?

    • @Whitehallrow
      @Whitehallrow  ปีที่แล้ว

      Jiffy reefing is an option on all ceiling models, except for the 17 classics where it is standard.

    What if you capsize the boat ?
    Can you recover it without additional buoyancy?

    • @haroldaune9160
      @haroldaune9160 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All these boats are fully buoyant and rerightable but there is considerable bailing involved …

  • @hellapellanyc6465
    @hellapellanyc6465 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Would the Tyee be a better sailor due to more volume aft??

    • @hellapellanyc6465
      @hellapellanyc6465 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also which model rows better?

    • @haroldaune9160
      @haroldaune9160 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The sailing efficiency of the boat itself on a small boat depends largely on the weight of the crew. In this regard a fuller hull sails slightly better and is also more comfortable with more than one person aboard.

    Gunter rig, not lug. The top most timber is a spar not a lug.

    • @haroldaune9160
      @haroldaune9160 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On a Gunter rig the spar stands vertical … This is a non-dipping lug rig.
