DESCRIPTION: Plant-based diets help prevent cancer not only by blocking DNA damage but by increasing our DNA repair enzymes' ability to repair any damage that gets by our first line of antioxidant defense. This is the second video of a three-part series about the latest discoveries on kiwi fruit. See yesterday's NutritionFacts.org video-of-the-day also (nutritionfacts.org/video/kiwif.... Other ways to protect one's DNA include eating broccoli (nutritionfacts.org/video/dna-p..., avoiding bacon (nutritionfacts.org/video/carci..., not overdoing stevia (nutritionfacts.org/video/is-st..., and eating a plant-based diet in general. See Repairing DNA Damage (nutritionfacts.org/video/repai...) and Research Into Reversing Aging (nutritionfacts.org/video/resea.... In tomorrow's video Plant-Based Diets and Cellular Stress Defenses (nutritionfacts.org/video/plant...) we'll see if we can break through that kiwi ceiling! In the meanwhile, there are lots (and I mean lots) of other videos to peruse at nutritionfacts.org/topics/.
Have a question for Dr. Greger about this video? Leave it in the comment section at nutritionfacts.org/video/kiwif... and he'll try to answer it!

A very nice fruit salad I love is kiwi + pineapple + mango. It's delicious, an exotic symphony of taste and awesome nutrients

This is awesome. I got two bags of kiwi with my organic CSA box and have been enjoying them even more since these kiwi video's have been put up.

This is possibly my favorite of his videos because it makes the instructions crystal-clear: eat kiwis every day. If I fail to do this, then the wisdom that this man has imparted for free, which I'd have gladly paid for if he'd asked me to, has been wasted on me. Kiwis are inexpensive, they're available year-round, they're delicious, and they have benefits that go way beyond what's discussed in this video. If I don't eat them for any reason, I have no one to blame but myself.

I'm curious what the test subject's diet was during the Kiwi trial... if they were eating other fruits and veggies, or instructed to eat no produce at all, save the kiwis.

Are they eating the fuzzy outside of the kiwi also?? Can we repair skin cells this way topically?? I've been eating kiwi for years on and off - thank you!

Or move to Denver. The higher iron content of the mountains ups the background radiation 3x the national average. However cancer risk of Denverites is substantially lower than the national average. Counterintuitive for sure, but the body sees the damage and upregulates the DNA repair to counter so much that the net effect is lower cancer risk despite the increased radiation.

Are Golden Kiwi fruits acceptable for DNA repair?

rich in ANTI-OXIDANTS is the key, with that info YOU yourself can look up if certain fruits are rich in anti-oxidants and which are not.

daaah! Cliffhanger! :D I can't believe anyone's able to make a soap opera out of nutrition facts and studies. Tune in next week for the exciting conclusion: will the Kiwi cheat on the Orange with her sister the Grapefruit? What about his long lost cousin the Mango?

Eat them with a meal that includes beans. It will reduce kiwi impact on blood sugar.

+johnny102marvin Isn't it amazing that people are more concerned about the doctors voice than they are the information he has. I hear this all the time. Agree and thanks.
