Okay as a piece of Saturday morning fluff this was fun....but COME ON !
A SPOON saves the Universe? Intelligent Rope WTF! You can now summon the TARDIS with a whistle like a dog!
They killed off major characters with Magic Dust that you KNEW were coming back. So there was ZERO suspense, clearly RTD was going to hit the RESET button AGAIN.
The revelation of Ruby's Mum was so anticlimactic. Just an ordinary Mum that didn't want her kid. RTD just wrote a big budget Soap Opera. To top it all off Mrs Flood is Mary Poppins.
To quote my Mum when I was a naughty child " I'm not angry, just disappointed".

Hot garbage, Ruby acting shocked that she was named after Ruby Road? No explanation to what Ruby's note was? Sutek gets defeated with a magic rope? Wtf is this. I have seen Chibnall write more logical than this garbage. I can't believe I went to the cinema for this 😂😂

I mean when it comes to answering "but what would make Doctor Who popular again?" Look at Pertwee's first season. Look at how popular Stranger things became. Maybe we need to pull back on colour and camp. Give a more grounded and surrealist doctor who series. And if well told, you'll probably have more non who fans be like "man, did you see Doctor Who? That was so creepy and cool" and it will grow out in a Stranger Things like fashon. I don't think it's a very hard equation to crack.

    • @dougsims4242
      @dougsims4242 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

You are absolutely right about Pertwee's first season. Despite being a classic "The War Games" ratings were pretty low. "Spearhead from Space" totally revamped the show, took a risky gamble that not only paid off, but took the show to new heights only to be taken to the stratosphere by Tom Baker. Much in the same way Christopher Eccleston rejuvenated Doctor Who followed by David Tennant becoming arguably the most popular modern Doctor.

Do want to throw this out there as a female - I reached my height around 13-14. As for her body, she *just* gave birth. You can move on from that and focus on how the heck anyone could figure out that she was pointing at a sign and *why*

In my personal opinion this finale ruined the entire season. All the buildup, all the mystery and it fell flat in the mud. Don't get me wrong the other episodes have worth and are enjoyable, this has just tainted them for me. Upsets me greatly.

  • @colerains
    @colerains 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I didn't hate it. Was it a bit underwhelming?... Yeah... But honestly, I was already expecting it to be worse than Part 1. Going in, I was cautious that the hype around Sutekh in-fandom might be greater than the actual role of Sutekh in the show.
It was a lot of buildup and a quick resolution. Tho I appreciated that there was more to the episode after defeating Sutekh, and I did like the sort of epilogue they gave us.
I knew as soon as they said Ruby's mother was a normal person, people would be rioting. I honestly liked that emotional beat. What I don't like is the convoluted pointing at the sign to name Ruby. That just straight up didn't make sense. There was nobody there to see Ruby's mom point at the sign.
I think in a vacuum, this episode isn't bad, but in the context of Doctor Who's week-to-week fanfare, it did seem a little flat. It's not my least favorite finale; it's not the greatest, but I don't think it was bad.

The cultural appropriation line was my foul of the week on our show. Putting aside that it's a hot button topic that they think will play well with part of the audience, it's retconning the Sutekh backstory. Originally the Osirans were in ancient Egypt, doing their thing, and the Egyptians picked up on it and incorporated them into the culture in a Chariots of the Gods/Ancient Aliens kind of way. And that's cool. The suggestion in this episode, that Sutekh (and presumably the other Osirans), 'culturally appropriated' ancient Egypt has the idea totally arse about, and is quite silly. All for the sake of a glib line.

I saw it more as a 4th wall break line. I think that’s the interpretation of the joke most peopel had, as the theatre I was in laughed the loudest at that joke

    • @theDWshow
      @theDWshow 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@benbobbins7938 I can understand why people would laugh 'in the moment' but if anyone takes a step back to realise the Egyptians were influenced by the Osirans, not the other way around (which is what it would need to be for the Osirans to culturally appropriate Egypt), they'd realise they're laughing at something that's factually wrong in Doctor Who lore.

The finale leaned too much on classic who. The whole mystery of Ruby's mom pointing to a street sign seems to me something a six year old could imagine and write. Huge letdown there.I also hated the idea that Sutech's minions so easily took over the tardis or that he's been effectively stowed away around the tardis since the Pyramids of months nonsensical Surely Captain Jack would have got more than he bargained for when he hitched a ride to the end of the universe! Surely he would have told the Doctor that something was afoot. Failing that the Tardis's psychic circuits would have issued some kind of warning... Of course the Finale also doesn't add up because Russell forgot that this isn't the same Tardis as the one from Pyramids of Mars!

  • @Jogproof

I think this episode was fine though honestly my only real issue was the stupid explanation of the pointing like I can understand everything else like my 15 year old nephew's friends are all bloody tall and could easily pass for adults if they cloaked up which is also perfectly reasonable she wanted no chance of being recognised so that's good and the whole walking slowly is understandable it's a mix of regret, hesitation and just having given birth with probably no help.
Then the explanation that it's only because Sutekh et al put stock in the mystery that the memory held such power causing weirdness which again makes sense but I just can't take that stupid name thing seriously.
And I know RTD said in the commentary that Ruby says 'my real mum' was to show that she is still in the emotional stage but after all of the great adoption and fostering that has been handled so well it really hurt me because yes some people might say that realistically but it's not real he could have just said Bio or something it shows he needs a sensitivity reader and was stretched too thin.
Thank god he's said that next season has more writers he should focus on the opening and ending to make them as good as possible.
    Sorry for the rambling.

So Susan Foreman was a huge misdirect? Wasted opportunity, maybe Season 2? Not sure i care about Mrs Flood being an evil Mary Poppins
While I think of it. Whats with Rose in the confrontation scene with Sutekh at UNIT? While guns are blazing, Rose is in the background looking like a disinterested and bored teenager on her iPad while everyone around her is being vapourised. Im sure thats not the intent but its a weird response regardless.

No one looked happy coming out. Everyone looked deflated and in disbelief

Sutekh was so stunned at how stupid the plot was, he completely forgot that he can kill someone with a single glance, or just say "My mind is in yours" and use them as a meat puppet. Yes, he can even do that to the doctor.
Good thing he forgot those things or that plan with the dog leash and taking him walkies would never have worked.

Ik it’s quite a lowkey finale after the bombastic start but I really enjoyed this episode, especially the scene in the coffee shop had me in tears. I do wish Sutekh had a more satisfying ending and I also think Ruby’s exit is a little abrupt (especially given that we’ve only spent 9 episodes getting to know her) but overall, 8/10

These new disney type shows look really good and glamourous yet they still manage to find room for filler in 8 episode seasons. I really wouldn't mind these shorter seasons IF the story feels full and complete yet they don't and i really dont understand why considering RTD 1.

I thought RTD had finally pulled a Moffat with the Sutekh noise being under our noses since the 60th.

Yeah, it was disappointing. Sutekh was wasted. A lot of the dialogue was so cringey and cheesy as RTD always is. The ending felt really padded out. The Doctor is now reduced to a whimpering coward. I know the Doctor is meant to be a pacifist but not to the point of crying his eyes out every five to ten minutes. The whole "spoon saves the universe" thing is something we have seen so many times now to the point where it feels stale. I mean do you remember The Infinite Quest where 10 uses a rusting spoon to stop Baltazhar in the opening scene. It was far better in that animation than it was in this, and that was written by Big Finish and DWN alumni Alan Barnes ffs.

This is literally the worst serise in doctor who history. Theres like 0 redemeeming factors.
The only real reason people get behind it is diversity shilding. Hence why the " best " episode of the serise is dot and bubble but honestly thats not even a good a episode like theres no actual entertainment in someone getting racist abuse so no its not like empowering.
On top of that gatwa is a very poor actor. I know some people will find it hard to get there head around but he is a one trick pony ( 3 trick) which is do his flamboyance then have his little HAHA moment then a little cry and back to camp. Thats not good acting because thats how every episode goes like literally everyone in that order. That does not make you a good actor it makes you poor.
On top of that when you look at the show you dont see the doctor you just see gatwa. Like thats it when hes in a interview for GQ he is exactly the same as he is in barbie or in doctor who. Like he just plays himself but not in a good way. Constant costume changes help cement this as he has no iconic look. This must of been of gatwas doing from a selfish stand point as RTD has never chosen to do that in the past and didnt do it for the 60th specials.
He also does nothing at all. During the entire season he solves 2 issues himself and both involve magic gloves so he really does nothing for the entire season.
Ep 1 he changes nothing and the equilibrium of the babys and the aliens is the same at the end. Babies upstairs alien downstairs. Could of just never been there.
Ep 2. Beetles save the day. The doctor just runs scared.
Ep 3 he literally creates the problem by being there and an a.i dad holagram saves the day.
Ep 4 hes not in it
Ep 5 creates the issue by being there , the majority of them saved themsleves anyway and didnt even want his input.
Ep 6 rouge had a pretty good handle of the situation and the doctor being there basically just kills rouge.
    Ep 7 nothing to do
Ep 8 put a dog on a lead.
He also couldnt discover a normal individual using a fucking time machine and unit solve the issue pretty easily in the end without needing him.
The i love you line at the end is stupid and just creating a momemt for moments sake.
The only reason that sence worked with rose is because you knew he wanted to say it back but cant. You have no impression he even likes ruby much after watching the serise.
My theory is that russell did not want to cast gatwa and hes a disney choice. I think he is deliberately making him the useless doctor to prove a point hes the one who wrote it so people had the ammo to say not the real doctor by writing the bi generation.
He doesn't even give him good technobabble. You get 0 impression watching it that he is even intelligent. Think about how stupid saying wibbly wobbly timey whimy actual is but is delivered and writen is such a way that you believe you just dont understand it because the person saying it is so much more intelligent then you.
I believe hes already been killed off in s2 and thats why s3 is not confrimed yet and then we wil get some proper doctor who back in s3.
WBY proves russell has not lost his writing skill as thats one of the best episodes in the shows history. The giggle is even good untill the last 5 mins.
The only thing that has been achived by this is retrospectively jodies era actually seems really good compared to this mess.
I know some youths will use diversity shilding to try and dispute this. But no diversity does not mean someone or something is Beyond criticism and it does not become automatically good because of this. One day these fad will faze out and we will go back to creating things to be entertaining rather than diverse.
