Daphne Fowler is such a game show legend. Henry Kelly is an absolute gentleman and consumate professional and Going for Gold was one of the best game shows there ever was!
I thought it was Daphne, I remember in 15-to-1 she won the final and didn't get a single question wrong. I've also seen her on Eggheads. She must have been on GFG before she got married as her surname is different. Indeed she is a legend, a walking encyclopaedia to put it precisely.
Ahh yes Daphne could not be beaten I remember a few years back on eggheads she got a sport question about the 88 Olympics and she said "I hope I get it right, I was there!" And she mentioned it was for winning going for gold.
Not true! She gets bundled out earlier in the same series finishing 3rd in her heat but luckily for her they had that return for several days system and that was what saved her. You'll find it on here if you don't mind a quick search. I know she's a brilliant contestant that was why I was shocked to see her lose one, but this was her in the early days when she was still looking at the floor not the host and my point is that anyone can get the wrong set off questions. I wish they would bring GFG back though.
This is the finale episode of '88 from the British TV show Going For Gold and today's seven players are Daphne, Paul, Richard, John, Sue, Peter, & Michael.
And now we feel we need _Brexit_ to show the EU who's boss... back then, all we needed was to beat the other EU members on Going for Gold occasionally!
@@blindlygoing though more seriously while yes, us on the whole voting to leave was probably a really bad choice... the entire world is suffering right now. Caring about Brexit seems hilariously quaint all of a sudden. Hope you and yours are staying safe 💜
Classic game show but not my favourite. Too much guessing and scrabbling for answers that might be right. Plus the foreigners are at a slight disadvantage because they might not know very niche words.
I don't believe it was rigged. However, some questions in this first series were duplicated or recycled/reworded, which may have helped the contestants in a different way (e.g., answers about the tiger, phoenix, etc.).
Compare this to today's awful, terrible totally contrived Deal or No Deal - the worst game show of all time. I always liked Noel Edmonds, but I lost respect for him after that awful stupid show.
Reminds me of bunking off school
lol same
lmao same!
😂 me too
You took the words out of my mouth😂😅
I watched this great show in 88 and thought it was amazing.
He is such a great presenter, I love his accent, I like Irish accents
Richard Leslie (Scotland) was the son of one of the teachers at my Primary School. I remember we all sat round the TV watching this!

Matt Bewers Yes I remember she got the second highest score ever on 15-1. "Question please"
Actually she was married when she was on Going for Gold just to a different bloke.
Aha, that explains it. Thanks @apnoakes
She absolutely smashed the last round. How she got Robert Mitchum so quickly I don't know
I remember even as a really young kid being so impressed by how well the non-Brits spoke English.

I am from the future.
Daphne must have been in every quiz in the 80s 😁
That was a rather aggressive "I don’t know" from Peter.
13:53 Oooo, definitely. 😬
No way, not a 24 inch tv! That must be like having cinema in your very own home!
+MCPHONEY With stereo sound and teletext, no less! Teletext!!! And this is the _second_ prize??
Would this be NICAM stereo?
Just found out Hans Zimmer wrote the theme. Always thought it was a catchy number !!!!
Didn't realise Henry Kelly was such a good host!
macstar2010 I think going for gold should be on Nickelodeon weekdays at 17.30!
Henry Kelly great presenter.
I'm here for Sue!
Best show EVER.
The heat is on.
They don't make game shows like this anymore
The first man looks like the master in the 80's version of Doctor Who
Soz Paul you aint going the Olympics but hey you can watch it on this TV. G thanks Henry.
Takes me back to school holidays when neighbours was on bbc1 at 1:35
Amazing theme song!
Daphne has been on every gameshow ever! lol
The first ever final, Daphne still queen of quizzes, cant rem the other winners. But no Olympics for them

C'est comme Questions pour un Champion, si ce n'est que les questions sont incroyablement plus faciles...
+Ribambelle Baladins Faut dire que QP1C s'est basé sur ce jeu... Going for Gold est l'original!
il faut que les questions soient plus simples - la plupart des participants n'ont pas l'anglais comme langue maternelle.
The guy who lost the final looks well pissed off lmao
I would be getting that far and especially against Daphne who probably had unfair advantage as she had done so many quizzes.
Why did he pass?
Never knew The Master was Austrian!
imagine watching the 1988 olympics on that TV while Daphne gets to live it up in South Korea.... hahahah
Imagine how amazing a prize that would have been back then.
What a stage
I love Daphne
Well Done Daphne Yessss England
Yes Come On England !!!!!!!
sick again off school.. going for gold
There's something Alan Partridge about Paul
"What am I......?"
"Give them a cheer. "
I thought she looked familiar, Daphne from Eggheads!
1988 Seoul Olympics that was when Mary Decker was tripped up by Zula Budd lol😂 👏
Wow he won a telly for 2nd place!
Original channels: BBC & Channel 5, respectively (United Kingdom) 🇬🇧 🇬🇧
questio pour un champion
Ha ha you’ll be able to watch Daphne watching the olympics that you could have gone to!
Lol. I used to watch this but a European quiz show with the questions in English would surely favour naturally english speaking contestants.
Taking back control, innit...
True, but 5 non native speakers won it, in subsequent years.
I think I would rather win the television LOL
Nah. CRT televisions are bulky and awkward.
John the contestant who lost in the second round has an uncanny resemblance to Stuart Goddard (Adam Ant) in his 80s days.
Yeah that telly would have been worth a few quid back then
I'm so good at this quiz. I lack the speed of a Daphne

i have no idea what's going on but this is some epic shit! I like it!
The tree zone..
Why isn't this on challenge?
+Right Stuff What a dope, it says challenge top left, oops.
+Right Stuff: They should show it again....
If you understand French enough, Questions pour un Champion airs without any interruption since 1988 and has a TH-cam official account
Nope Its A Cardboard Game In 1990's
19:24 u wot m8?
And now we feel we need _Brexit_ to show the EU who's boss... back then, all we needed was to beat the other EU members on Going for Gold occasionally!
The UK will lose this time.
@@blindlygoing well it's all still ta' play for, goin' inta the second round! *Genial Irish gameshow host laugh*

Did they really gave to include a question about Hitler when there were Austrians in the final?
Your playing ketchup
😂
Henry Kelly is irish.
Oh really! I really thought he was Canadian.
I always thought he was Nicaraguan.
Made in England, won by England 🏴

Henry Kelly appears to be Gaying for Gold.
He's married to a woman
I vibrate look like a banana what am I? I eat fig rolls and spend most of my time on the bog what am I? I have 2 jugs and carry stuff what am I?
Playing Catch up ? You're trailing you mean.? Tickets to the olympic games Big fuckin rip.
