  • If you are thinking of travelling to Gulmarg, Kashmir to ski or snowboard powder then this video should cover everything you need to know thats difficult to find answers to elsewhere. Specifically different aspects of safety: avalanche, lifts/ gondola, guiding, rescue, insurance and terrorism.
I forgot to mention at the end about the checkpoints on the way to the airport. When you leave the airport the checkpoints are minimal and fairly quick, however on the way
Anything I didn't cover here just ask in the comments and will try reply to the best of my knowledge.
Finally: if you are thinking about it.. DO IT.
Season is January, February, March but I recommend late Jan/ early Feb for at least 2 weeks.
I am not a local and this video is based on a short trip, if I misunderstood anything please let me know.
Interesting @26:00 you can see an old large avalanche which came down one of the outer bowls 😜

Finally please expect to leave your gear behind when you visit 🙏 Or take any spares you have if you can fit them in your luggage.

I am a local, and i can say there r some good hospitals in srinagar, like skims soura, gmc srinagar etc.

Pretty much honest vlog. But when you tell you need to goto Singapore for check up I was like seriously. Delhi has one of the best medical infrastructure, you will never feel the need for going outside India for medical related issues.

Yeah totally agree, I am sure Delhi would have good hospitals. What I meant by the comment is that there might not be an established procedure in place. As an example, in most EU resorts, the ski patrol have a helicopter on speed dial, and that helicopter already knows where to take the patient, and the hospital is used to injuries from ski accidents, etc.
Whereas in Gulmarg, my expectation is that in an emergency situation, a lot of these steps would be harder to solve. For example, which hospital in Delhi would you go to, and how would you get there?

@rajmanu5able I think it would still be easier to get to Delhi on balance, but Bentley's point has significant weight for Singapore to be given as an option atleast. I have trained in India and working in the UK, and I do feel that the safeguarding poicy needs radical improvements. I haven't visited Gulmarg ever by the way but sure want to, whenever I get a break from the NHS 😜

We were there from late Jan to early Feb 2023. I can only say that it was very busy and other things that would make me reconsider going back.

Oh no!! Gulmarg has always had a mythical status in my mind and a bucket list destination, so I'm really bummed to hear this. Can you tell me more about the negatives you experienced?

      @AlistairBentley  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

@carterbloom5847 @@Stoopheadfred I did not experience this but others said that some days it was a 2-3 queue per 2nd stage gondola ride 😬
I think the solution is to 1) accept it and 2) go for a minimum of 2 weeks

this guide is extremely useful for local travellers as well, one ask is to update hotel, cab, instructors phone numbers in description if possible. Thanks!

Used these guys who were amazing (organised by Zubair), but as mentioned the guide was more of a "ski companion" than guide, which might be fine for some people!

@beyond_kashmir I don't snowboard 🤣 but in all seriousness its not straightforward to do the research first and know who is a good vs less good guide
