  • Miata Bikini Top that doesn't cost $600.
    I really like how bikini tops look on the Mazda Miata. Especially with a roll bar. I think they flow well with the 'scaffolding' in the back.
    In this episode I do a quick install of the GJR Racing Keeni Top. Made by some guy in his shed but good quality and very reasonable price.
    You can check them out here: gjrracing.com/
    *Note this old footage and I'm releasing a quick video of it due to a supporter's request.

    You did do it bro I asked and you came through thanks for putting out this video! And this is the one I'm going with because it's so much easier and cheaper than project g's bikini top and you don't have to chop up a miata frame to get the same results! Thank you again!

      Appreciate the feedback! I'm glad people like you let me know what you wanted to see, because otherwise I would have just kept this in the archives, so thanks for letting me know!
      Yeah Project G is what made me want a bikini top but the cost (abeit it is high quality) was just too much to swallow. I am really happy with the GJR keeni top.
      Thanks for the support!

    Dumb question but can you still put a hardtop on after you drill holes into it? I mainly use a hardtop in winter but for those summer months i really like the idea of having a bikini top.

    • @HazardGarage
      @HazardGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah they currently have 2 versions. One that you sacrifice a soft-top frame so it attaches to the windshield like a normal top.
      2nd is the drilled rail (the version I have). But as you can see in the video it mounts just before the rubber seal. Your hardtop should fit just at the seal so the two should not conflict with each other.

    Love the soft top. Minimal design and saves weight, great addition!

    I’m wondering why you HAD to remove your soft top to fit the roll bar? 🤔 I have a roll bar installed as well, didn’t have to take the soft top out though.

    • @HazardGarage
      @HazardGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The roll bar I had (hard dog hardcore M1) would only fit plastic window soft tops. I had a glass window top. So instead of replacing the top, I just opted to remove it completely. Car was always going to live in a garage and really only a weekend/track car in good weather.

    that looks great!
    but in order to run a Bikini top you must drill out the front?
    I thought it was connected using the front laches somehow
    love the look, but wouldn't want that permanent on my 95NA
    ?
    - great video thank you!

      the version I bought you drill into the body work. It was intended for more track focused cars where you dont care too much about body work.
      They do have a version that uses parts from a soft top like the latches I believe. Check the site out.

    Have you guys done a fastback install?

    • @HazardGarage
      @HazardGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have not. But I love the look. The original designer of the fastback hardtops I dont think makes them anymore, and I have heard the replicas out there arent the greatest fitment. Unless you dont care too much about noise.

    been going back and forth deciding whether to put one of these on mine...any parachuting effect on the hwy? How tall is the PVC mounted bracket...like 3/4" or so?

    • @HazardGarage
      @HazardGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've taken it on the highway and race track and if you mount it nice and taught, it doesnt flap at all. Note I also have a makeshift wind deflector attached to the cage to minimize turbulent air in the cabin.
      The PVC bracket is yeah roughly 3/4in or so not very tall. I believe the guy who makes my top also makes a version where you can use the front of a soft top frame to attach instead of the PVC bracket if thats a direction you want to go in.

    can u still run a hard top with the new rail installed ??

    • @HazardGarage
      @HazardGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      you should still be able to because the rail fits in front of the seal where a hardtop would sit.

    Wait... So these replace your roof? 😳 I thought these could just be clipped on and off when wanted. Man I really wanted that but can't go without a roof

    • @HazardGarage
      @HazardGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are correct! I don't have a soft top because my roll bar wouldnt work with it, so I just took it out. You do not have to do that.

    I'm baffled on two fronts, I've never seen a rollbar that doesnt work with soft tops and I've never seen a bikini top that needs holes drilled instead of using the front part of the softtop frame.

    • @HazardGarage
      @HazardGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      well technically the hard dog m1 roll bar I have works with a plastic window soft top. But I had a glass window soft top. Since this was really going to be a fair weather car only I just opt'd to sell the soft top and not get a plastic top always having the bikini top in mind.
      Yeah there really are only 2 companies I can think of that make bikini tops. GJR that makes the top I used, also has a version that requires a soft top sacrifice but I like drilled version for simplicity sake although I can imagine some people might be hesitant to do that.
