  • LOUIS HAYES QUINTET: Swingin' Sunday Set - Ruth Binsky dedication - Keystone Korner Baltimore (2023)

NEA Jazz Master Louis Hayes and his Quintet (Steve Nelson on vibes, Abraham Burton on tenor sax, Gerald Cannon on bass, Allyn Johnson on piano) dedicated their final set on Sunday evening, February 5, 2023, to a stalwart of the Left Bank Jazz Society and the Baltimore jazz scene at large, Ruth Binsky. This smokin' second set embodies every ounce of history and talent that the Quintet brings to each performance, and demonstrates what makes the legacy of Baltimore Jazz so compelling.

Damn! Steve Nelsons groove is so far back on the beat!

It is very reminiscent of Milt Jackson in my opinion!!

@@simonmogul3793 Yep but I think that even Milt was not that far on the backside of the beat. :-) I play vibes and drums and I have to admit, the drummer in me would be driven crazy by such a behind the beat style. Steve Nelson is great tho! I took a few lessons with him when he was a grad student at Rutgers. Very genuine person.
