This route was great as you've got a bit of everything ; Castleton itself, the limestone Gorge of Cave Dale and then the open field leading to Mam Tor and the ridge. A firm favourite walk of ours. Great day 👍
I loved this route and it was nice to get the opportunity to film it. I would have filmed this walk at some point anyway, but as you had organised the group walk I thought it would nice to do it then. It was indeed a great day and as always thanks for organising 👍😀
Fabulous seeing you both on this video on Patrick's brilliant Solitary Rambler channel! Great work 👍😊 Keep walking! 👣 Look forward to your next video 🙂📷 Cheers, Paul
A beautiful walk. The whole area is wonderful. Castletown holds memories for me because I have a blue John pendant bought for me by my mum the year she died. I’ve not been in any cavern as I don’t like enclosed caves and get a bit of vertigo. Great memory, thank you. I have also climbed Mam Tor but it was really drizzly so I couldn’t see anything from the top and had to come straight down.
Morning Kathryn, thanks for watching. Nice to have a memory of Castleton. I wouldn't be able to go in the caves either for the same reasons as you. All the best 👍
Brilliant walk indeed Patrick. I can see why you love Castleton so much. It’s certainly a fantastic walking area. Winnats Pass is spectacular too isn’t it? Like driving through the Alps! Great to see the little cameo from Lou and Lol and their walking group. I’ll have to join you all on one of the group walks at some point. An enjoyable and informative watch as always Patrick. 😊
Morning Anthony, yeah Castleton is fab even if it does get sooooo busy. I drive up though Winnats for work more than in my own time, but it never fails to amaze me how spectacular it is. It was great to join Lou and Lol on their group walk, I've been on several now. Hopefully you can come along sometime Anthony 😊 Thanks as always for watching, all the best 👍
Gutted that I missed this one, I wouldn’t mind doing Mam Tor again at some point. You can see why it’s so popular with walkers. Thanks for taking us along. A great watch Patrick 😀
Shame you missed it Rachel, but I bet Lou and Lol will arrange this walk again as it's a popular one. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend 👍😊xx
A great team with you there Patrick. I certainly agree with you about the beauty of the village of Castleton, and it's never lost it's charm, by the amount of visitors that go to the place each year, obviously being attracted by the Blue John mines and the gorgeous scenery surrounding. Cave Dale is one that I've never explored, but it looks very inviting, as is Peveril Castle. The trek up to Mam Tor is well worth the undertaking, as it's well paved some of the way, and the views from the top are stunning. A very enjoyable video, and thank you for the production.
Thanks for watching and commenting Ffranc. Castleton is always busy but that's to be expected. Definitely worth doing Cave Dale if you get the chance 👍
Brilliant walk Patrick. I've hiked Mam Tor only twice but not on this route. Those stairs up are unforgiving. Each step is a bit over a stride. But no rail. Why should there be? Yes the hike up to Back Tor from Hollins Cross is a hard one. Up there you took a few seconds filming the flat rock overlooking the Vale of Edale. That's the cover shot for my channel. 🙂 I found the broken road to Hollins Cross, Lose Hill and back to Mam Tor a slog. I can't imagine how tiring it would be from Castleton AND adding on the old Castle and Winnats Pass. You have some stamina Patrick. But what you did made for a beautiful vlog. It is nice to view things from other people's perspective. Im glad you didn't lose anything from your pack. Thank you for sharing.
Morning Chris, yes those steps are not easy, but the walk is so lovely. I can see now the flat rock on your cover shot, nice one 🙂 I've never walked along the broken road, only ever seen it from this walk. It was a 10 hour day for me filming this, with a break in Castleton after the walk and before I did Peveril Castle and Winnats Pass, but I'm so glad I made the effort to do so. I was aching when I got home, but it was a good feeling as I knew it had been a great day. Thanks again Chris for watching, have a great weekend 👍
You brought back very happy memories again Patrick. In the early 60's I could cycle up Winnats - not now though! What a beautiful country we live in.No need to get on a plane to experience it.Thanks as always. By the way - had a very interesting tour of the White Peak distillery in Ambergate on the banks of the River Derwent yesterday.(an area you will know well). Some good walks around there too - Shining Cliff Woods etc.Cheers Patrick
What astonishing views. Seriously, who needs to go overseas when we have so many amazing places like this literally all over the British Isles? Those who choose to ignore what we have are seriously missing out. Thanks again Patrick, another top notch video which I genuinely really enjoyed. Thanks for your hard work and effort.
That's what I always say Jeff, never need go abroad with scenery like this. There sure are lots who do so, but don't visit more local places. Many thanks as always Jeff for your kind words and for watching 👍
A classic walk indeed Patrick epic gorges, people and all. Ha, Castleton? A ton of people. I can see why it's popular it's simple in an Idyllic place. Great to start and finish a sociable walk from to what with the pub. But that must have been fun with all them folks. Lou and Lol seemed in fine spirits. Well, I don't blame you for staying on - the views from the castle were spectacular. Defensively impregnable up there I'd imagine. I could see you animated by the day. Good going. Have a great week ahead. Mark
Hi Mark, one epic and classic day. Castleton just gets mega busy, but I accept that. Not a place I visit often in my own time, but it's great when I do. It's always a fun day on one of Lou and Lol's group walks. There were a few new people this time too. Yeah by the time the walk was over, it was nice to have a quick chinwag in the pub garden, then it was worth my getting those last few shots up at the castle with the sunlight as it was. I was definitely feeling animated, great company on a brilliant walk again. Thanks as always Mark, take care down there and have a great week too. All the best 👍
@@solitaryrambler Hey we like epic Patrick landscape and people. Sounds like you had the right mix in the day. That's good. A pleasure - I will take care, you to.
So many highlights in this one Patrick ...Superb Landscapes great company ...and such an enjoyable watch..also good to see you looking so happy ..Youve got some great friends and really came out in this video patrick...Thank You So Much for once again showing us such delightful scenes around the beautiful peak district....As ever regards Frank & Lee.....
It was great filming a group walk for a change, not something I would normally do, but it just fitted in nicely with the other walks I've filmed recently in the same area. They are a great bunch of people in the group. Pleased you enjoyed this Frank and Lee, many thanks as always for watching. Have a great weekend 👍
Thank you for another beautiful walk Castleton holds a lot of memories for us as we visited many times with Stan and Rose on our holidays. We had lunch at Rose cottage.
Beautiful walk Patrick, with a great bunch by the looks of it. Thanks for taking us Peveril castle at the end - great way to finish the hike. Catch you soon

Well Patrick Castleton looks gorgeous we have decided that will be our next place to visit when we come back in the new year ! fantastic once again Patrick you have done it again absolutely great !!
Another very enjoyable film. I had forgotten just how beautiful Cavedale is, so long is it since I was there. As for Mam Tor, it was always a busy place but seems much more so now. I've been there many times, but my abiding memory is of the time a friend and I sat down and opened our rucksacks for lunch, only to hear a thundering of little hooves and then to see two sheep appearing over the hill and head straight to us in the expectation of food. I didn't know sheep had such acute hearing! Thanks for letting us join you on another good outing.
Morning Michael, yes I too had forgotten the beauty of Cave Dale. Mam Tor I tend to avoid for the reasons you've mentioned, but as Lol and Lol had organised a group walk I thought it would be a good opportunity to try and film it. The Great Ridge is always really busy, so the couple of sheep you would have heard during your visit are seriosuly outnumbered by the visitors there today! 😂 Many thanks for watching Michael, have a great weekend 👍
Morning Jean, thanks for watching and for your lovely comments. It was hard filming this actually, but very much worth it for the results. Have a great weekend too 👍

Great walk, fantastic views Patrick. Nice to see people out enjoying themselves. Keep the videos coming from NZ.
Morning Chris, pleased you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching. I've not had a chance to get out filming since this, so I don't know yet when any new films will be posted 👍

Bloomin heck! What happened to this news you've been teasing us with? 😂😂😂 Have I missed it? Really good video though? 👍
Not had time to talk about it yet, but really, it's not that exciting to be honest 😂 Thanks for watching 👍
Very beautiful airya
Another blinder! Thanks. A question though.... Could you give us some idea of how far your walk was? I know this is pretty lazy and I should look it up, but a general idea would be welcome.
Thanks for that Hugh. Please see the description below the video
Great walk and video Patrick. I do wish people would stop the piling up of stones.
Many thanks for watching John and for your kind words 👍
Where's the place to find out about all these walks that are going on on the nearby areas
Are you referring to the walks lead by Lou and Lol here? They've got a Facebook page: facebook.com/groups/277632820791423
