That’s a super solid PC for $120. Even if it has some proprietary parts, the parts that matter are easily upgradable. I’d probably say like a 1660 super or 2060 would be a perfect gpu upgrade
I've run E5 2697 v3, 2666 v3, 2690 v3 and a 2690 v4 and I have never had an issue with any of them, even with the lower clock speeds. I am also running an M4000 in my current rig and for gaming and even video editing, it's been great. If you want to borrow one of those CPUs, let me know!

I got a Dell T3600 with the 1650 for $120 on Ebay. Came with 4 4gb server memory sticks. Up it to 32 total. Ran Open Media vault on it for a while. It came with a 240 gb ssd and a 3 gb mechanical HD. Also a win 10 pro remanu key. I redid the OS to win 10 and thru a 8gb RX 580 in it. Pretty sweeet budget gamer.
About that quad memory - it does wanders. IF made as it should. I would suggest read the motherboard's manual, there's a specific placement order. Otherwise,a good buy, with a lot of memory,it can became your rendering rig.
Just noting that you complained about the plastic on the thermal pad still remaining, yet you didn’t remove the sticker over the M.2, thus still rendering the thermal pad useless.
I think it's a very nice price for this kinda system. I'd swap around the memory to make sure it uses the full quad channel , for that extra frames per second hehe (and general performance ofc).
Try the xeon e5 2680 v4 it's not a bad little cpu and even with the low clock speed its performing pretty well got another system with a ryzen 7 1800x oc to 3.8 ghz and the xeon beats it in every game ive tried
$120 (or $170 including shipping, as others pointed) is decent price for a Z440. Although I'd rather go for dell 5810 at $110 ish. which is same generation CPU and motherboard. Get a used GPU for less than $100 (which you will do to the Z440 too), add some RDIMM for $20, upgrading the CPU for $30, and you are good to go. Depending on the CPU used, you may need a higher power PSU, which is $30-50. It's cheaper than Z440 because it's non standard form factor. But still, it works, and it's very quiet.
I‘m with you. I also had to choose between T5810 and Z440 and chose the T5810 for 115€. When I saw the title, I thought it was one of those scam eBay gaming PCs (I didn't notice the thumbnail) as eBay sellers (as well as Amazon and Walmart) are notorious for selling old cheap computers, even SFF desktops with no upgrade path, with a GT 730 or GT 1030, and putting "gaming" on the listing. I think what they might be doing is they only test Fortnite or Minecraft rather than a modern game like Cyberpunk 2077 or Hogwarts Legacy and are calling them a gaming desktop because Fortnite, Minecraft, and The Sims 4 plays well which is not an accurate way to advertise gaming performance. While the prices are better than the Alarco, ViprTech, and IMAGINPC, I still call it a scam because the listings would imply they're affordable gaming desktops when they're actually bad at gaming. You would need at least a GTX 1650 or similar AMD GPU to get playable performance from modern games (maybe DDR4 RAM for some games), a GT 730 *isn't* going to run games like Hogwarts Legacy. On top of that, they usually come with a slow 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi adapter and a poor quality gaming keyboard and mouse which you can tell by the wrong shape Enter key. Unlike the $200 laptops which are literally unusable, they're still good PCs aside from gaming performance, slow Wi-Fi, and cheap keyboard/mouse. As for the computer itself: Something you don't see in newer gaming desktops and cases these days is the DVD/Blu-ray drive and a 5.25 bay which is often omitted in newer cases. Also, some of the newer systems tend to use smaller motherboards even though the PC could use a larger motherboard which is not the case for the Z440. The 8 RAM slots is interesting as most desktops only only have 4 slots. I remember seeing some 1 star reviews complaining the computer they received being different than what is listed or not including the promised parts like a video card or Wi-Fi adapter. Personally, it's better that it doesn't include the Wi-Fi adapter because a lot of eBay (as well as Walmart/Amazon) sellers as well as STGAubron (Skytech) and ViprTech tend to include a poor quality (likely no-name) Wi-Fi adapter often runnimg at *2.4 GHz 802.11n* which is slow compared to Wi-Fi 5 (11ac) and Wi-Fi 6 (11ax). It would be better to get a TP-Link Archer T2U or a PCI-E adapter to get better speeds (the latter can even add Bluetooth) or use Ethernet.
