  • Full video of the entire Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in Virginia from beginning to end. We went from the Eastern Shore traveling south to Virginia Beach.
    The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel is 12 miles of bridges and 2 miles of tunnels. It's only 1 of 14 bridge/tunnel systems in the world and first opened in April 1964.

      Its really not as bad as it looks. I didn't even know it was a big deal until I found a tik tok after I had been over it. Unless you're an idiot, you can't go off the road. I did notice it didn't have real guard rails and called my daughter to say that but otherwise it was just normal driving. The hype is what makes it scary, not the actual bridge.

    I have never forgotten being a child back in the 1970s and being terrified of how close we were to the water on both sides. As an adult back in 2000, I had the thrill of driving the entire structure from Virginia Beach to Cape Charles during a torrential downpour for the entire trip, my only solace being the two tunnels. An amusing twist to my story is that from one end to the other I heard Oops I Did It Again by Britney Spears twice on two different FM radio stations before reaching Cape Charles.

    When my parents and I moved from New Jersey to Georgia in 1978, we'd still come back up to visit relatives sometimes, and my dad would always take the scenic route and go across this. We'd stop at the restaurant every time. Great memories. I don't go up there nearly as much, but when I do, it's always through the Chesapeake Bay bridge -tunnel.

    Went through/on that somewhere around 1966 in a 1957 Oldsmobile coupe. My mother was driving. We were taking my brother back to either Newport News or Norfolk. I was around 12 or 13. Best part of that trip was that we got to tour his ship, the USS Enterprise.......aircraft carrier. AMAZING! He never told my mother that we were driving under water and that the Enterprise would actually sail over that tunnel till after we were back home. To me, the tunnel is much less frightning than the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, even though I HATE tunnels. Thanks for the vid.

    I have had a recurring nightmare since I was a child, so about 25+ years, about riding on a bridge that suddenly disappeared into the water and we were supposed to drive through the water to come up on the other side. For 2.5 decades I had this dream that felt so real I was sure I’d been there but could never place it. I began to think maybe it was a past life experience.
    Over the weekend I went to see my dad for his birthday. We were both up at 3 AM and couldn’t sleep. I was telling him about this dream I’ve had ever since I was little. He then informed me we went over/through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel on a vacation to Nags Head NC when I was five. I looked at an aerial photo and instantly knew this was it.
    5 year old me thought we had to drive straight through the water. I knew that we had been over bridges and through tunnels on this trip, but my mind brain never integrated that the tunnel was in the middle of the bridge.
    I was somewhat emotional to have this mystery solved.

    • @ReelJayB
      @ReelJayB  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a crazy tunnel for sure! Glad thr mystery was finally solved!! I never looked at it from a younger kid perspective, but it was definitely make sense because of all the tunnels and bridges.

    Thanks for the video. You had a great weather day to cross. My first trip was June 1972 across the CBBT. Was only one lane each way back then. My Godfather and his girlfriend took them with me. I got out of school 2 weeks early as my Mom and Dad had to prove this would be an educational trip for me. Which it was, as we did Williamsburg, Monticello, Yorktown, etc. Plus the Blue Ridge Mountains and Luray Caverns just to name a few places we visited. It was great as an 11 year old to experience all of this. I took my wife across in 2016 as she had grown up in Illinois her entire life. She was impressed. Fortunately the restaurant and overlook points were all open. I took her to Langley AFB for their 100 year air show celebration. Disappointing to hear the restaurant won't be back. Last trip was Oct to Williamsburg in 2020. I did the CBBT vs I-95 to get to Williamsburg. I don't mind paying the extra money for the scenery. Needless to say Williamsburg was a ghost town due to COVID-19. Which was great for us. Safe journeys.

      The only way would be to take I95 in Washington DC. Hope you have a safe trip!

    Well at least you were a child when you were scared going through this long ass tunnel shit i am scared of this chesapeake bay tunnel as a grown up see I started going through this tunnel 1st time as a tractor trailer driver just 2 lanes Scary as hell but you had a real reason to be terrified as a kid but I feel real silly now because as a kid I would cry going through the fort Mchenry tunnel and it is way shorter then the chesapeake bay tunnel 😂😂😂
