The Essence of a Video Mapping Festival
The making-of our micromonumental projection mapping on the 1:40 3D model of the Opera House of Lille.
“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.” ― Buckminster Fuller

If we can’t make it big, we’ll go micro. We were commissioned to create an artwork for the Lille Video Mapping Festival. Despite the event being cancelled, we are determined to show the world our artwork, so we decided to downscale and project it onto a 1:40 3D model of the building. We believe in the transformative power of art, and that our souls need it now more than ever. We are here to stay.
When we started working on our concept for the Lille Mapping Festival, we didn’t know that a pandemic was about to hit the world, and the world as we know it would fall apart and stop existing. The way humanity is now working together to rebuild the world corresponds amazingly with our original idea of how creation is building and demolishing; and parallel life cycles of birth, decay, and rebirth follow one another. It inspired us to go beyond our existing limits and invent a new model we haven’t used before. We are determined to contribute to this work for rebirth and decided that we’re going to replace the building with a 1:40 3D model, and if we can’t showcase our artwork at the festival, we’ll use the power of the online community to bring it to life. Big thanks to the team of the Lille Video Mapping Festival for being a partner in making this happen.

    The Essence of Creation
“Every act of creation is first an act of destruction.” ― Picasso
Creation is building and demolishing. Creation is constant magic how chaos becomes order, and establishes a new path for life. However, besides birth there is also decay where fragments or particles of life become something else or disappear from the world. These parallel life cycles follow one another perpetually day by day as the epiphany of existence.
Inspired by the national divinity of the Greeks, Apollo, who has been recognized as a god of archery, music and dance, truth and prophecy, healing and diseases, the Sun and light, poetry, war and death, the artwork conveys this complexity by using the symbolic and physical elements of the building. The story of continuous construction and demolition portrays life itself.
