    A Quickstart guide/tutorial for the Arturia Minifreak. Here I demo how to edit tones and create your own patches as well as understanding how to navigate your way through the interface. I was hoping to make a 10 minute video BUT there's a fair bit to get through. I've been as edit happy as I could but it's difficult to do anything useful in less time.

    **A Re-upload** the first version had L+R phase inverted on the synth so in mono it was silent!

    Just to mention, but I believe it is a SEM styled filter as opposed to the Steiner-Parker filter present in the brute series

    Best review yet for this keyboard 👌
    It's really a competitive synth to the minilog xd, little more expensive but touching similar grounds. Sure it sounds less analogish sort of speak, and this filter sound more rounded and less aggressive, but you got the extended polyphony and modulation matrix over the xd. And thou I would prefer normal keybed, its got aftertouch vs the korgs keyed.
    Would really like to see a compare between the two sound wise 🙂

    Thanks for demoing the 12 voice paraphony. I’d been trying to get my head around how 6 filters would deal with 12 voices. It’s actually kind of a cool musical effect-the last few notes added just swell into one big chord….

    What a beautiful keyboard, last week they brought in a Roland Fantom workstation, it's huge and heavy too, it needs servicing. And then I can keep it for free. To my stack of other keyboards.

    I find the Hydrasynth extremely easy to interface with and I am wondering how the ease of interface compares to the minifreak. I know this is subjective but your thoughts are welcome. I am considering adding this board to my arsenal!

    I have the v collection. It’s amazing and will take a lifetime to fully appreciate

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It really depends on what you’re looking for; a hugely flexible and massive collection of softsynths or a hardware unit. If you want to produce tracks in the box you really can’t go wrong with the V collection. I’ve picked them up for years so my upgrade price is always really low. But if you want something standalone - again really flexible - this is a nice thing to have. It’s nice to have nice things.

  • @Goettel
    @Goettel ปีที่แล้ว +3

    At this point hardware to me is almost only about having fun creating sounds off-time, since producing in-the-box is just so much faster. I love my opsix to death for wasting countless hours just experimenting with sound. The Minifreak sounds great, but is it fun to use?

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’d say definitely yes. It’s easy to use and there are so many things to play with and get lost in. From a sound design perspective the small keybed isn’t an issue really.. unless you’re thing is huge wide spanning chords. Apparently there’s a VST on the way, but I much prefer hands on editing.

  • @derekholland3328

    i know you can create one but filter and amplifier share the envelope by default.

    Love your videos, but one request. When demonstrating LFOs, could you please use cutoff as a destination instead of pitch? It’s just so annoying. Like a siren in my living room. Cutoff is just as effective and actually sounds good. Maybe I’m alone in this, but it makes turn off videos when people do this. Respectfully, GC.

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  ปีที่แล้ว

      Point taken. I was just mixing it up a little so it wasn’t all cutoff.

  • @lox4482

    @starsky carr could u Help me pls?
    In a digital VST u can set the wave like high? So the Sound never stops, at the Arturia Minifreak there is something which causes the sound to go complete to 0 volume after each wave.
    How im able to increase the like end wave high or volume? I wasnt able to find it yet, and tried turning every controller.
    Its somewhere in the standard Setting when u turn on the arturia minifreak.
    But I also got it on diffrent oszillators and presettings like in subcult (37) or doom (34) you can here it very clearly
    I hope Its understandable what I mean.

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  ปีที่แล้ว

    • @lox4482
      @lox4482 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StarskyCarr I think I got it. on the Standard (1) its the Phraser which cut of the sound hardly and on the “doom preset “ its the Chrous which cuts the sound off hardly. The Volume goes like normaly to Zero after some waves. That was anoying as hell.

    Hello at 09:42 Cutoff Frequency is set at -48? with the Cutoff Pot. Right after that, was that value changed with the Preset/Edit Pot to 100%? Then another value is changed with the Cutoff Pot. I am not following this part. Can anyone explain me that please?

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By wiggling the cutoff you are assigning it to the macro. The -48 is inconsequential at this point. It’s just reflecting that there’s been an assignation. That’s showing the amount the macro will affect the cutoff. At -48 it will reduce the cutoff as the macro is increased. I then change the amount the macro changes the cutoff to 100. Now the macro will increase the Cutoff. I then have to turn the cutoff down so the macro has an effect. If the cutoff is set high the macro can’t send it any higher.

    Thorough as always ! (I haven't watched all 30 mins yet, as it was only uploaded 10 mins ago... but I know it will be thorough 😄😄). But quickly jumping through it initially, I'm wondering a little bit about what this gives, that similar VST's don't (obviously, hardware controls dedicated to the synth engine, for one)? It's quite pricey for what sounds to me to be a bit of an uninspiring 'VST' sound (ok, bring on the hate!! 😛)

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  ปีที่แล้ว

      The analog filters I suppose take it away from accusations of being just a ‘VST in a box’ but there is a software version on the way apparently (that won’t have analog filters 😂)
