Depending on various factors such as what you look like, cops have a habit of making things a lot worse by already determining who is guilty before arriving on scene.
You guys crack me up. As stated before all officers and people are not the same. John_doe and Rail I am sorry you feel that way about police. Being a black person born and raised in an inner city close to DC not once have an officer pulled me over or stopped me for no reason. Not once. I was raised when there was a program called officer friendly and there was respect for everyone in the community. If you were stopped there was a reason you were stopped and if you gave respect you received respect. To Sean I can not speak about California laws but where I live if you feel that your life is in danger when he brandished that knife and you articulate it (considering he was using video) and (this is most important) “YOU FOLLOW THE POLICE COMMANDS AND YOU ARE LICENSED TO CARRY” you won’t have an issue with the police. Now the states attorney is a different story. 😂.
But the easiest thing would just call 911. Someone mentioned this, it is a good thing if you are the first to call. Operator get to hear your story first.
Make no mistake, sharp and pointed, made of metal, that's a deadly weapon and in the way he was holding it in a threatening stabbing motion, made his intention clear! The police need to relook at this and deal with the guy properly before he hurts somebody⚠️😲😳 The way it is marketed as an 'imitation' or a replica is just purely to get around certain laws re selling knives and weapons etc If this doesn't wake you all up to how RID is BAD for all of our safety, I don't know what will?
As someone on the spectrum myself, a licensed driver, licensed gun owner, and new beginner drone flyer - whether he may or may not have been on the spectrum or not still makes no difference and is not an excuse for his behavior. By 22 the high functioning like I and presumably him know better than that. I'm Canadian, and under Canadian law if he did that here, any item can be considered a weapon if used or brandished as one, so he surely would've faced prosecution here, as he should. This was a truly crazy thing to watch.
Man that sucks. I'd much rather fly where you were flying than a busy park. I've been very lucky that all the people who have approached me were very cool about me flying. The most "serious" question I've gotten is "are you taking pictures" which I replied "No, I'm just flying and having fun."

I recently bought a drone and have been watching a few videos so I ended up here on a TH-cam recommendation. It reinforces what I already know......people will not allow you to do something outdoors without bugging you. I have spinal injuries, which have kept me housebound a lot over the last 10 years. A few years ago I bought a metal detector. Just to get out and get some exercise, find some coins on the beach etc, detect at any places that might be interesting. I never dug big holes or anything, I just had a small metal hand trowel and wasn't interested in anything unless it was close to the surface. I always left any place looking exactly the same as when I got there (sometimes better, as I removed a lot of sharp old scrap metal that would cut peoples feet and put it in the bin). And you know what you get in return ? People demanding to know what you are doing. I would say "baking a cake" in the end as they would annoy me that much. Seriously, what business is it of people if I am in a public place doing what is very obvious...metal detecting. I think they are concerned that you might find something valuable and they wont. 80% were clowns like in this video, the other 20% of people are genuinely interested and I am always happy to have a chat with them. I can see that owning a drone is going to be exactly the same. If I take it to a public place the same thing is going to happen. " You cant do this, you cant do that"....."yes I can, go look up the laws on it". So when I do, I am going to make sure I am out of sight. Which funnily enough will make me look like I am doing something wrong.
Tip: Be careful turning your back on folks like this....When our FPV flyer was walking away from him, there were several opportunities this guy could have attacked from behind.....Always maintain eye contact, keep them in view. Be safe everyone.
Thank you for pointing this out. A lot of people chastising me for not just packing up and leaving right away. To them I would say, how do I do that without making myself vulnerable? In the full version of the video you can see that I didn't turn to pack up my stuff until he told me that he was going to call his mom....... That's about when I realized I'd be okay to pack my stuff up. Not saying I handled it perfectly but that's what was going on in my head.
I have luckily never had a argument over flying yet but I have seen it go from doing freestyle tricks in a park field, to a male coach for Teen girls saying we don't want parents think your spying on the kids and i am like WOH WHAT. I am going 60 to 100 MPH the last thing I am worried about is your kid. I think if I were the parent I would be more worried about the coach than a couple of guys flying around park poles and trees really fast. But that make sense.
You should have called the police hands down. Many states have laws for brandishing a weapon. I have arrested and jailed people for brandishing a weapon in the state of Washington.
but, would a spotter have changed the dynamic? the brandisher of "toy" realistic looking weapon would still have been an issue. remember, never use the drone as a four bladed flying Cuisinart ™, you WILL get in trouble.
It may not have made a difference but I feel like he was way to confrontational on how he handled this. Seems like when there was distance he would say things to escalate it. I agree the guy was wrong for harassing him but he also ran is mouth which doesn't help his situation at all.
Cons make shivs out of ink pens, and tightly packed paper. To say this wasn't a weapon because it was a replica is ludicrious. It can still puncture the skin even if it doesn't have a sharpened edge. People have been stabbed to death with pencils.

DISCORD MOD ALERT
my man casually carrying around a replica of an in game weapon
Make no mistake, sharp and pointed, made of metal, that's a deadly weapon and in the way he was holding it in a threatening stabbing motion, made his intention clear!
The police need to relook at this and deal with the guy properly before he hurts somebody⚠️😲😳
The way it is marketed as an 'imitation' or a replica is just purely to get around certain laws re selling knives and weapons etc
If this doesn't wake you all up to how RID is BAD for all of our safety, I don't know what will?
Well it's California.
Because of the stupidity of the public and the Faa has encouraged the stupidity and aggression. That is why I quit flying.
He looks like chumlee from pawn stars 😂
As someone on the spectrum myself, a licensed driver, licensed gun owner, and new beginner drone flyer - whether he may or may not have been on the spectrum or not still makes no difference and is not an excuse for his behavior. By 22 the high functioning like I and presumably him know better than that.
I'm Canadian, and under Canadian law if he did that here, any item can be considered a weapon if used or brandished as one, so he surely would've faced prosecution here, as he should.
This was a truly crazy thing to watch.
🇨🇦👍
Man that sucks. I'd much rather fly where you were flying than a busy park. I've been very lucky that all the people who have approached me were very cool about me flying. The most "serious" question I've gotten is "are you taking pictures" which I replied "No, I'm just flying and having fun."
ADVICE::: I feel for the drone dude,,BUT 1)don't ever monologue with a Type 2 diabetic "Klingon" my God!! 2)Try that $hit in a small town. 3)Open carry works. 4)And get a girlfriend-- Good Luck! Great interview Ken!❤😂❤
Dont do that in a stand your ground state, dude reasonably feared for his life.
“That is how I opened” is Gold!🤣
This is what happens when discord mods go outside
He would have left in an ambulance.
You let this happen. If someone like this confronts you, do something about it. If you let it happen youll get no recourse
Cartman is still on that "Respect my authoritah!"
He was technically doing photography 😂😂😅❤❤
This is pretty insane. I actually recently found this guy's channel and he can really rip.
abandoned golf course? the dude was worried you were gonna find where the bodies were buried
First guy to call 911 wins.
I sincerely hope you pressed charges. He absolutely committed a felony and you have it on film. Dude belongs under supervision
The ofcr that told you that the item was not a deadly weapon was incorrect.
You should have called the police hands down. Many states have laws for brandishing a weapon. I have arrested and jailed people for brandishing a weapon in the state of Washington.
They were both immature and handled the situation poorly.
If you're scared then have a spotter with you, so nobody will sneak up on you
but, would a spotter have changed the dynamic? the brandisher of "toy" realistic looking weapon would still have been an issue.
remember, never use the drone as a four bladed flying Cuisinart ™, you WILL get in trouble.
Aren't we required to have a spotter? If you cannot physically see the drone you're piloting you need a spotter that has LOS.
