    Alot of people over due there pre trips, everything is basically (PMS) properly mounted and secured not crack bent or broken. Or leaking

    • @SchoolBusSass
      @SchoolBusSass  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I completely agree! Though currently, the redundant repetitive phrasing is what is required . Once you point out an item you need to give the examiner at least two defects which would take the item out of commission. And if the part is capable of leaking, you must say it’s not leaking, otherwise, you won’t get credit for calling out those items.

      @SchoolBusSass  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, what type of mirrors do you have on the busses in the UK?

    • @DrivingPsychology
      @DrivingPsychology ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SchoolBusSass Much smaller than the ones you have. The bigger mirrors create bigger blindspots, you have to remember our roads are very narrow and you can easily hit pedestrians as you pass them on the pavement so the mirrors are ticked in close. This is the only country i know where they are making the roads narrower. The newer buses don't have mirrors, they have cameras but that diesnt encourage the drivers to scan from side to side. The high convex mirrors dont have to be too large, once the trainees get used to the vanishing point and the eyes learn to refocus quickly, the nearfield/farfield zooming and side to side scanning can accomodate the smaller mirrors.

    If for some reason during the test there is a problem that would deem the bus unsafe, would I stop the pre-trip there and ask my trainer for further instructions on what they would like me to do?

    • @SchoolBusSass
      @SchoolBusSass  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would do my best to make sure the bus was roadworthy before taking the vehicle to be tested. If, however, a mechanical defect would occur while driving to the testing facility or during the pretrip itself, I would depend on the defect. If it is a clearance light not in operation, the test should continue. If, on the other hand, a headlight were to go out, it’s very likely they would not continue the test.
      It would just depend on what the defect was.

      However, the age requirement for your CDL varies by state. Many states set their age requirement at 21 with some as high as 25.

Now im freaking out the only thing i want to do is call my sister get me outa of there. its embarrassing. i did this at least 6 times finally i see the girl talking to joe she must told him im having trouble starting the bus he looks at the bus with her for 5 minutes instead of coming over to the bus and see what's going on? he finally does he says what's the matter . JOE IT WONT START? then he goes- it WONT START BECAUSE ITS IN DRIVE? NO REALLY JOE WHO DROVE IT OVER HERE AND SECURED THE BUS YOU DID JOE ? HE DOESNT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT HE STARTS IT UP AND SAYS THERE YOU GO ??? SO THAT POOR GIRL IS OUT THERE SHES GOTTA BE PISSED SO WE DO THE LITE TEST I TELL HER OK IM DONE WITH MY LIGHT CHECK AND I HAVE THIS AND THAT TO DO SO SHE COMES IN THE BUS AND TELLS ME TO DO PASSENENGER SAFTEY IN THE BUS .buy this time I've lost all concentration so i do the front half of the bus then i do all from the seats back then i tell her im done in the correct way( i know how its done im just trying to shorten this up its not happening though)then she says lets do everything else in the truck with the engine safe start?? i have no idea what that is i had to ask because i find out later thats what dmv calls it we call it road test engine start means the same but i didnt know.so i do everything i didnt do in the bus yet now i start the engine im just gonna tell you i did the 60 second test then i started the low air warnings pumping the brakes at 70 alarms start at 60 psi my wig wag drops at 30 psi my parking brake applies so i waited waited it never did why i forgot to push it in.so she said lets talk she said i did outside rear pre trip perfect the lite test i was lacking one light in the back i still had the reds on so the ambers didnt come on .then she says that im doing way to much,i told her thats what they pump into your head over loadedi told her im not making any excuses but when old joe left the bus in drive and i didnt know what to do i lost all my rhythm and focus. she if it wasnt for the parking brake not engaging we would be movin to the skills part. so she told me what to do and study what dmv is lookin for , then we tallked about all kinds of stuff she was cool . so i signed up for the test again next Tuesday 1:30 again sorry for all the writing but thats about what happened thank you

    So technically you become mechanic first then a driver. OK. Does it worth the money they give for this job. 20 hrs a week and if you get 25$'s an hr is 500 before tax, then you have to pay the union fees. So roughly 300 a week. Early morning and the afternoon then the noise and behavior of the students then the politics in school. Simple question does it worth? And please don't forget lots of us have family to feed so for those who feel happy and say everything is not about money please. Everything is about money in my opinion. I am not trying to blame no one or hate, my question is does it worth it. Yes people do second job too.

      Knowing the names of the parts of the bus did not, has not, and will never enable me or anyone the ability to repair or replace any parts on the bus.
      The district I drive for has no union dues and we receive full time health insurance when a driver gets a contracted route. With the nationwide, shortage of drivers, a contracted position is often obtained once the driver obtains their CDL.
      Is it worth the pay…
      It depends on the objective of the persons needs.
      I became a school bus driver, so I could remain a hands on parent and not have to put my child in daycare…win/win… for my child and my family. There are no nights, no weekends, no holidays, and ten glorious weeks off in the summer. For me, this was my objective, so it was exactly what I was looking for…
      What I did not know going in, was how much I would end up loving what I do… School bus driving, quickly became my vocation… it was and is the job I never knew I needed or wanted, until I became a school bus driver. School bus driving, for me, is the most fun job I have ever had. The rewards for loving what you do, are invaluable…
      Twenty four years of driving and I can still say… I love my job.
      My students, become my children when they are with me. I know each and every one of my students names, and learn who they are throughout the school year. There is no better feeling than when a child hands you a handcrafted note, telling you, you are the best bus driver ever and that they love you.
      Will anyone obtain financial wealth, becoming a school bus driver…no you will not.
      So, decide what your families needs are and if the schedule bus schedule and flexibility fit those needs . This job is not for everyone, but the benefits, the schedule, the children…make it a perfect fit for me.

    Thank you and wow I better get some warm clothes cuz you went a good speed but it still took 30 minutes and I imagine it takes a little longer for newbies because you wanna make sure you got it all but they have a list at the schoolbus office to go through so thank god. I hope I can use the heater with out making all the kids to hot. Same if it’s hot outside and I want wind… hopefully I also have a newer bus it seems smother of a ride. 😇 got a bad back but I can drive. I was relieved when I saw gps with custom stops input to the system. I was somewhat worried about that. Some buses have old school phones in them still and that’s kinda crazy. I think it was a speaker. Anywho wish me luck I am excited to try something new. I hope I love the job in the long run I mainly wanted my cdl to operate a bus I could live in someday. I’ll give it 2-3 years to decide if I do I also know the community needs help and this is kinda my way to give back.😊 I’m great with kids but I’m not really a daycare kind of person it’s just not a passion in that aspect but I can still honestly say I care for them indeed and I think putting in a helping hand can speak for it’s self. 😅❤ no more late busses and children left behind on my watch. I applied when a driver failed to drop my kid off at home and refused to let her off at the next stop leaving me to run afterwards as a mother it is terrifying for a sub to drop your kid off after talking about a missing jacket ignoring you kid screaming wait wait and the stop she was let off at was across from a motel right at a freeway entrance a mile away. I was like Nah man ima work there 2 hour late start then this?! Not on my watch. When I complained I was asked “what do you want us to do?” I just applied and now I’m starting straining next 2 weeks.😂
