i've got 2000+ hours in the game, but this video still was very enjoyable to watch! The cinematography was amazing, and i'd love to see more videos in this style!
Ive been in the game for quite a bit, and i still make that mistake, I remember a ship i spent about 3 hours on i put too many gyros, that when i took off it started spinning so fast half of it smashed into my landing pad
Should probably have mentioned that you can't find platinum for ion thrusters on your starting planet... but I do like the thought process that went into this, overall.
Ions produce 30% at the worst case scenario on the Earthlike planet. Atmospherics Peter-out around 10,000 meters or so while there is about 40,000 meters in the entire gravity well.
My favorite thrust strategy atm is to have almost enough ions to hover at sea level and just a few atmospheric thrusters to level off the thrust profile and provide payload capacity at low altitudes. This way I can power a craft entirely with electricity and still go to space. The sheer volume of up thrusters also allow for an insane turning radius in space.
Ik you will probably never read this cause this video is like two years old, but i just wanted to thank you for making this video. before i was just about ready to quit playing, i got board of doing nothing but crashing spawned in ships in creative and i had no clue how to build anything at all! the best i could do is slap on a reactor and randomly place ion thrusters. But because of this video i didn't quit and learned how to make ships AND make them look good, you really opened up the door for me to this amazing game that i now play daily. Thank You.
One of the first vids i watched about how to build stuff, been two years since i started playing its nice to look back at stuff i watched after 2000+ hours in game
Thank you so much. I have been embarrassing my self in front of my friend who is actually an engineer and I am just starting. This will help me a lot for making ships and I already have some cool ideas. FYI: I think this new ship that you built to show how it's done, looks cool to me.
I did a search to find a tutorial on Building a small Block Ship off a large Block Station and came to your video. Yes it is almost 3 years old and SE has changed some. I would love to see an update to videos like this one.
Yeah, I realized looking back on my tutorials that I jumped straight into the complex bits of SE. I wanted to return to tutorials and make something for new players.
Something I made for myself, a checklist for small ships. Requirements: Landing gear (Just drop it down) Cockpit Power (battery or reactor) Gyro antenne Container(s) Oxygen tank (space) and/or Vent (Atmosphere) - Place on cockpit port, enter, press K, find vent, depressurise: ok) Weapons Conveyors / connectors Thrust: ion (space), atmospheric (atmosphere) or Hydrogen (both, req. hydrogen tank) - Ion/atmospheric in all axis
Very new to Space Engineers and this video helped curve my jaw drop a bit. Best video for Space Engineer newbies I have seen so far. Thanks so much for spending the time to make this!
I have a few hundred hours in the game and I still found this to be enjoyable. I would like to see a video on your general thought process when it comes to adding the armor though. That is the only thing that I have the most trouble with.
Enjoyable video. Please do show us more of the creative process you employ, it's always nice to see how other engineers create there ships. This was an excellent video that had an almost academy crash course feel to it. I will be showing my friend who is new to the game this video.
I recently made a shuttle that uses atmo and ion thrusters only. It got down from my spacedock to the planet I started on well enough, though I had to revise it a little bit due to it wanting to pitch up, now comes the fun part: whether or not it can get back into space.
Nice video, but I think you should have pointed out that in "survival", you won't be able to build Ion thrusters until you reach space, since they require platinum and you can only get it in space (other than meteor impacts which are glitchy and only provide a miniscule amount).
i've played a lot of space games, E:D, Starmade, Avorion, Starbound, ect, ect... I've put off Space Engineers for awhile now, but it looks really amazing, this is one of very few videos I've watched of SpaceEngineer, including SovietWomble. I'm now going to get it, it looks like StarMade with less customization ships, and a better engine. I'm pretty excited ;)
great video.i bought the game 2 days ago and only played for 3 hours.the ship i tried to build was a disaster.hopefully,i might be able to built a real ship that actually flies now.
Not bad bud. A good general creative guide. Perhaps next focus on a Survival focused one, that doesn't use Ion Thrusters since you cannot get access to the ore required for such before getting off the Earth-like world?
If you're going to make the ship survival ready, and not use reactors since uranium is scarce, it may be relevant to point out the differences between survival and creative. Like the lack of reflection mode.
I’ve just started, I’ve been mining by hand for a day, got loads of everything & no idea what to do with it all. I also don’t know what where the small button is. But I’m pausing at 55 secs to say “That ship is awesome!!!” I want it!!!
Ok one thing to look out for: don’t use antennas use beacons unless you are making a drone. Antennas take twice as much energy for sometimes less broadcast
what I usually do is look up ships from sci-fi series on the internet, and kind of roughly base my designs around that. Try that, see if it works for you
14:24 you could have put a junction on the small port on the rear of the connector and used small conveyor tubes keeping tight to the ship's form to connect to the sides of the hydrogen tank. It tucks most of the tubes in giving more leeway for the final shape.
hi morph just wanted to thank you for taking the time to put the tutorial's out. I find tutorials like yours and w4sted as well as few others I have come across really helpful when building in game. I'm still new to actually playing se had it sitting on my steam until I could find away to get it to run on my laptop (lol so low end that I don't even meet the min to run it smooth but still run's) but any way just wanted to thank you and the other veteran player's that take the time to answer questions and help us new plays out.
Rather an add batteries you could have turn off the Ion thrusters till you need them. Same goes for the atmo thrusters when you get to space. If you plan on making a S:E 101 series (Something Id enjoy watching) you could do one on groups and hotbar use.
My algebra teacher said it best. "Forgot your homework huh? Well it sounds like you are SOL! Sorta outta luck" He was super positive always. Every day was a happy day! "Happy (blah)day!"
Morphologis.. You make it sound so simple. I tried to build my own ship but it does not take off lol. Im pretty sure im missing something since im *trying* to make a mining ship for my survival. Could you make a tutorial in detail how to make such ship? A minimalistic one coz its quite hard to get resources when you are running around by foot :P Thanks so much for these vids. You have no idea how much help this is to me :) Much love.
then it either doesnt have enough power, or it does not have enough thrust. Drills are pretty heavy and make your ship require more thrust in order to stay up.
I´m kinda new to the game, even though I´ve had it forever. Started a survival and made a huge transport ship as my first planet to space ship, saw this tutorial on how to make beautifull ramps using pistons and rotors and thought hey I wanna do that that. finally after many tries the ramp is done and it´s working, it´s beautifull and I´m happy AF I try to fly it and the ship rotates left/ up all by itself all the time and spent many minutes on figuring out why. Turns out it was the rotors and piston so my friends took out their grinders grinded the ramp up in seconds and the brick flies like a dream, but I´m destroyed on the inside :(
That can happen if your piston and rotor limits are not set up correctly, if there are 2 seperate grids on seperate rotors or pistons "rubbing" together, or if the rotor head offset is not set up right
The opening sequence of this video shows how good Space Engineers can look when everything is turned to the max (and you're using some video editing tools ^^).
Great video, although you should have mentioned that the ion thrusters won't be available until you have already made it into space, due to no platinum on planets.
nice i didn't know you can depressurize atmosphere for oxygen. that earned you a like. i havent spent much time on planets mostly space. that and i should do components before armor...
I doubt you'll see this comment: But I really enjoyed this video. It helped me out as Im starting on Xbox. I really like the way you design your ships as well. (Your voice is also great for these kind of vids)
I still remember my first ship (pure space shuttle for mostly cargo, later refitted with drills). It wasnt a brick. It was T-shaped! Still relatively boxy though.
Not sure if it was deliberate or not but you missed one vital piece of information. Playing survival you won't have the Platinum required for those Ion Thrusters for your first ship until you have already been to space so you will need to design a ship with hydrogen thrusters in all directions to find your Platinum.
i've got 2000+ hours in the game, but this video still was very enjoyable to watch!
The cinematography was amazing, and i'd love to see more videos in this style!
while not clearing 2000 (about 500) i agree defiantly a nice video a good refresher
I don't even play space engineers and i liked this video :P
I do
I thought my 2000 hours all together spent on steam games was impressive/a waste of my time, but holy crap
I mean, someone with more experience in building won't need this guide. don't you think?
Waaaiit. You don't need many gyroscopes on light ships?
I suppose that explains why my first ship handled like a caffeine addict...
Daniel Ullrich hahahah lol 😂
+L & J Do Stuff i made a ship and its "armour" was gyroscopes and it turned into well idk what to call it(150ish gyros)
yeah you dont really need more than 2 on a light ship.
James Daniels mine was on steroids
Ive been in the game for quite a bit, and i still make that mistake, I remember a ship i spent about 3 hours on i put too many gyros, that when i took off it started spinning so fast half of it smashed into my landing pad

I SAWED THIS -BOAT- SKYKE IN HALF!
To show YOU the power of MORPHTAPE
NOW THATS A LOT OF DAMAGE
@BUHE THATS QUITE A LOT OF DAMAGE
If we place some Morphtape here wow we have a new ship 19:17

I really like the idea of the rocket-launchers doubeling as a self-destruct mechanism.
But it's a really nice looking ship :)
I saw that and baulked too.
I saw the two ports and realized that he was just dangling his ass in front of disaster with a cherry on top.
If your legitimately trying to prevent ship capture, a warhead by the hydro tank works a charm

Bonus points if you have a programmable block that you activate before battle that detects if the player dies and detonates automatically.
@0:46 The narrating is so brilliant it sounds like a BBC Top Gear Review
It was. Did you SEE that ship?
ion thrusters do add thrust in an atmosphere, but a very small amount.
30% of what they add in space.
Ions produce 30% at the worst case scenario on the Earthlike planet. Atmospherics Peter-out around 10,000 meters or so while there is about 40,000 meters in the entire gravity well.

Holy hell this intro, felt so professional, TV quality. Dang son I come back to this. Wow. Good job.

Very new to Space Engineers and this video helped curve my jaw drop a bit. Best video for Space Engineer newbies I have seen so far. Thanks so much for spending the time to make this!
there really needs to be a 101 space engineers series
I have a few hundred hours in the game and I still found this to be enjoyable. I would like to see a video on your general thought process when it comes to adding the armor though. That is the only thing that I have the most trouble with.
Very good narration, even for non native speakers. I needed not more than 3 sentences, to k ow I could follow this. Now watching the full video.
Brand new player here, and your video was pretty awesome. Thanks for making it
I've been playing for ages, but seeing your methodology is very inspiring!
So glad to see you back doing SE tutorials! You and W4sted helped me so much and kept me in SE for 1000+ hours! LOL
so glad to see a new SE tutorial. You make THE best SE tutorials on youtube imo, Morph!
Just bought space engineers a couple days ago and your video still saved me from building cubes
Enjoyable video. Please do show us more of the creative process you employ, it's always nice to see how other engineers create there ships. This was an excellent video that had an almost academy crash course feel to it. I will be showing my friend who is new to the game this video.
Am I the only one that loves the old textures, the smooth and not so detailed ones? Well, in my opinion, I LOVE the old smoother textures.
I have successfully landed on a planet with out destroying the lander also built my first rover.
This video is a big help, thank you.
Man you've gotten so good at cinematography in this game. I'm loving it man, and also love your architect reviews for Star Citizen!

Looking at this in 2020, still cool video.
I forget how different SE used to look. It's kinda aesthetic in a retro sort of way.
Thank you for making these Morph! Just started SE yesterday and this video really helps !! Time to hit the drawing board :D
okay, props on your editing :) this was a good introduction to building ships for me.

Perhaps next focus on a Survival focused one, that doesn't use Ion Thrusters since you cannot get access to the ore required for such before getting off the Earth-like world?
For the power issue, grouping all similar thrusters and powering down the ones you don't need will take care of that.
Great vid! Your ship looks so rad, beautiful design.
If you're going to make the ship survival ready, and not use reactors since uranium is scarce, it may be relevant to point out the differences between survival and creative. Like the lack of reflection mode.

awesome video morph
Nice tutorial Morph, i didn't know you could put a vent on the cockpit to supply it with O²
The vents can also fill the o2 tank when in atmosphere.
