I am so satisfied with this interview. All the questions were posed to Lady Di and not Charles. Hearing her speak is comforting and so soothing. All her answers reflect her values. She was to good for this place. She had to be in a better place. Rest in peace you beautiful soul, Lady Di.
This is the first time I’ve heard her speak at some length. (So many speaking For her.) She must have been such a Blessing to the Suffering. No wonder she was so loved. Can’t help but wonder how much more she could have done, if given the chance. Too bad he didn’t appreciate her excellent qualities. They so much outweighed any bad, I’m sure. Definitely Our Loss, even if He chose to overlook her.🥺
It’s very bittersweet watching this interview, now that we’ve been privy to a lot of what was going on in the background AND that today is the 25th (?) anniversary of Diana’s death. The what could have been/should have beens is a mile long or more on how compatible they COULD have been if only he was less insecure and she was more mature and also less insecure. Two damaged people, thrust into the public eye every freaking minute must have been hell. Then to bring two kiddos into the mix? Gosh, very bittersweet. They would have been a terrific team for Britain and maybe she would still be alive.
I feel the same, it’s like understanding years later the impact of all this on everyone and everything. I was just 7 when she died but I still remember the news and watching with my mum and sisters in my living room, I remember greyness. It was such a poignant moment to look back on, so sad. 💔
They both were great in their individual ways; and together - until that clearly became untenable, regrettably. I still enjoy watching them, despite all the skepticism, they certainly did try.
I don’t think he loved her. He was cruel to her most of the time. Affection? Maybe. But only because she was her sons’ mum. His actions showed resentment toward her all the time because he couldn’t be with his mistress as often as he wanted to. He’s got a very poor soul. In many ways, I feel sorry for him.
@@LookingGlass24 I agree but for "I feel sorry for him" It was Diana I feel so sorry for, used and abused. She had no idea what that marriage would be like. No idea of his Mistress either, but she soon found out.
The Princess Diana is a beautiful English rose here! So much sadness for her early departure I suppose can only call for an afternoon glass of whiskey!😥
Billions of hearts cry after the loss of a much loved Princess! Hundreds of millions of hearts cry after the loss of the One and Only love in their lives! They were a great team. The best. They absolutely DID love each other. Sadly, outside influences kept poking in and causing trouble. If they had been LEFT ALONE to do their thing; to "work the kinks out" [like every other couple in the early years of marriage] they would've been fine. They would still be together and Diana would still be here.
Absolutely spot on!! I'm so glad to have seen this comment :) They WERE in love. I'm so tired of people (mostly younger people) taking information they've taken off programs like "The Crown" and completely misinterpreting the actual truth of the matter. It drives me mad. And when it DID fall apart, Diana was equally culpable. I adored her, but she wasn't a saint.
@@charlotteq8460 no need to turn this into a generational war… there are plenty of us old farts who have the same opinion. It’s just an opinion after all. …..they most certainly did not. He has loved Camilla for a long time unfortunately. Diana loved him, I believe. But him loving her? Nope. Maybe a bit of life sometimes, but never IN love
My understanding is Charles had grown very fond of Diana, Diana said they were happiest just before Harry was born. ~~~~~~~~ Diana refused to follow many of the royal family rules. In the rules the spouse of a royal is required to be supportive and avoid drawing attention to themselves. Diana appears to have been a supportive wife when this was recorded. Everything changed by 1986. Diana was in love with her bodyguard, Barry Mannakee, in 1985-1986. Diana said he was the love of her life. Mannakee was there, he paid attention. Charles was a workaholic and often not there, and Charles was never prepared to meet Diana's emotional needs and deal with her mental problems. Charles is stoic. Diana suffered from depression, low self esteem, and self destructive behaviors including bulimia before she met Charles. Diana was extremely emotionally needy. ~~~~~ Charles and Camilla met in 1970. The queen refused to approve of Camilla marrying Charles. The core of their relationship is their friendship ,they are soulmates. Camilla is Charles best friend. Charles ended his intimate relationships with women including Camilla just before the wedding but Charles was never willing to end his friendship with Camilla, she is the emotionally supportive person in his life. Diana knew in March 1981 that Charles frequently talked to Camilla on the phone. In 1992 in the Peter Settelen video, Diana said she knew when Charles rekindled his intimate relationship with Camilla in 1986. In other words Diana admitted Charles was faithful until 1986. In 1994 Charles confessed their marriage was irretrievably broken and that's when he resumed his intimate relationship with Camilla. Irretrievably broken referred to Diana's relationship with Mannakee. Charles ended his intimate relationship with Diana in 1986 after becoming informed of her relationship with Mannakee. Diana admitted she had an affair with James Hewitt starting in 1986. Diana had 8 or 9 affairs before the divorce was final. Some were married men. Diana was labeled a home wreaker by the tabloids. ~~~~~ Diana had unrealistic expectations, was disappointed, became angry and combative. She was competitive instead of supportive. She overshadowed and undermined Charles. Their relationship became toxic and both were miserable. Both failed to meet each others expectations and needs. They were not compatible in many ways.
when she mentioned long lost cousins in america. i was so surprised when i found out she had a great (or maybe 2x great?) grandparent from right here in central ohio. small world. if they only knew their descendant would be the future king of the united kingdom
I doubt they'd be completely shocked, the American ancestors. The American woman who married into the Spencer dynasty was married specifically for her family's great wealth. She would have been an heiress and the broke British aristocracy married these rich young women to prop up their dwindling fortunes. Think Downton Abbey. Elizabeth McGovern in fact did a TV program on this issue after Downton Abbey. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the program.
Talent and its appearance at an early age is an interesting thing, At 2:35 William does not have the first faintest clue about what one does with a piano. He simply bangs and makes a noise. The future King and Queen!!! Now there's something that would have brightened up many people's days.
