How to replace a Jandy filter pressure gauge

Should the threads of the pressure gauge totally disappear into filter body lid? My threads are exposed about 3/4 to an inch

Do I have to let all the pressure out filter before replacing?

All positive(outward) pressure, yes. If there is negative pressure you can go ahead and remove the old gauge.
