    Thanks so much! I got rear-ended by a cop 2 weeks ago but because of my work schedule have not been able to take my car in. I've been driving my other vehicle because so far none of the videos I've had time to watch have not made sense. Simple and easy! Done in 10 secs!

    THANK YOU^2 - yours is the ONLY video that discusses both a dislodged metal pin and closed servo-actuated latch. My situation included both - other TH-cam vids assume/start off with a pin-in-place and an open latch, which given my sitch, were not helpful. Saved me some bucks amigo, gracias!
    TIP FOR OPENING LATCH - although the car runs on a 12 volt system, a regular 9 volt battery worked to pop my latch open. Just need two pieces insulated wire (maybe even paaper clips?) with both ends stripped- unplug the servo harness at the seat back as shown in video, insert one end of the two wires into the servo harness (headrest-side, top part of wiring, NOT supply/car power-side, bottom part of wiring) and touch the respective +/grnd leads to the 9v battery.

    THANK YOU, THANK, YOU THANK YOU!!!! Finally someone who truly understands all aspects of this problem and how to fix it! And special thanks for showing us how to re-trigger the little latch with the battery. (Mine had become locked again, too, during my initial troubleshooting when I didn't understand the problem.). Also, my metal rod had become lodged down inside the headrest and I was able to finally find it with a magnet, just like you said. Thank you for making and sharing this video! You are THE MAN!

    Thanks so much for the great tips, I would not have found the steel pin for sure unless you said where to look and I used a small magnet taped to a screwdriver to retrieve it, and of course I dropped it another 3 times while attempting to reset it. Also , double checked the lock clip was ok before I played with it, but I did find out the black strap was interfering with me trying to latch it, so I moved it out of the way and finally reset. . Mine deployed when I hit a very hard pothole which surprisingly did not ruin the wheel or tire. thank you !

      Same thing happened to me! I didn't lose the pin out of my headrests, but I hit a pothole hard enough that it popped a tire and bent a wheel. Thankfully the wheel was able to be repaired. Oddly enough, I didn't even notice the headrests deployed until weeks later after I got the new tire mounted on the repaired wheel and put it back on the car. I must've had so much adrenaline from hitting the pothole that I didn't even notice the how far forward I was sitting!

    For those of you who also had you're pin pop out I had to place the pin in forward, then rotate the pin sideways and back into the slots for the pins to sit in. I used a pair of pliers to hold the pin and then fingers to move the pin around and pull backwards with the pliers into the slot.

      I did plastic welding, epoxy glue and rigged up stiff wires to anchor the pin. Still had a problem getting it to latch into place. Put some WD40 on the pin and it latched. I think all the revisions reduced the tolerance and it needed some lubrication to slide into place. @@CaseyPhilson

    • @dgroebl
      @dgroebl  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      One pin is for the positive, and the other is for the negative, it shouldn't matter which is which. It is difficult because the pins are small, but DO NOT touch the positive and negative wires together! Only connect one pin to +12V, and the other pin to -12V power. As soon as you do that, the circuit is complete and the headrest will release.

    • @dgroebl
      @dgroebl  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really no, your only going to keep the circuit connected for just a brief moment until the solenoid opens and released the headrest. Because of this, you can you small wires. 12 AWG speaker wire should be fine.

      How did you put it back in? Seems it needs to be inserted from the front of the headrest and slid back into position

    hi. hoping you can help me. how did you go about removing the plastic back panel of the seat to access the servo to reset?

    Hello. Your video is very good. Would you make another one how did you exactly wire the black to negative and green wire to 12 volt. I've tried but I don't understand why it didn't release the head rest. I'd appreciate it if you let me know when that video is made. Thank you

      As suggested by Jason Dube in the comments. You can actually just use a 9V battery. If your headrest did not release I'd expect it's because you did not make a complete circuit. Either you were not connected to both the positive & negative sides of the battery, or you did not touch both metal contacts inside the headrest plug. Keep in mind all, four of those connections need to happen at the same time to complete the circuit. Using paper clips will help you reach the metal contacts inside the headrest plug.

    Just did this but the SR5 light is still on? Did I have to keep the plug plugged when you put the headrest back in place? I had it plugged and just put the pin back and clamped it back down and it stayed in place. But my light is still on for some reason

      Did you find a way to clear the Srs light? I'm trying to find a solution without a scanner.

      @@CaseyPhilson full replacement for free by your local Dodge dealer. It's the only way. Unless you want to get a shady scrapyard part.
      Basically it's under recall still. Schedule it and be done with it.

    David, did you actually use a car battery for this or will a regular small 12v A23 battery work?Thanks very helpful instructions.

    • @dgroebl
      @dgroebl  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually used a 2nd car battery that I had in my garage. I bet a little A23 battery would work though. It really shouldn't take much power to fire the solenoid. Another option would be to just use the battery from the car. You could leave it in place, no need to even disconnect it. Just use some speak wire or something to make a long cord running to the seat.

    Great video but my problem is that I can't get the metal pin back in place (now that I finally fished it out from the bottom of the headrest lol). How do you get that metal pin back in where it belongs ??? Thanks for the help!
