Thanks Jonathon. I'm concentrating on the Yarslow canopy first as I'm building it out of plastic card and Plastruct which I have to hand. I have ordered some laser cut brackets from ScaleModelScenery for the TSQ canopy and hope to get on to that by the end of the month. Have a great 2024!!

Superb modelling! I love the annotation, it really adds to the story. Your attention to detail sets you apart as a highly skilled craftsman. This is a fascinating hobby combining engineering with art. Merry Christmas!

Thank you for your comment Liddy, it is very much appreciated. I confess that I see myself as just an ordinary modeller - if I can do this stuff, anyone can. There is still much I cannot do and I admire those who can build loco kits, get signals to work and produce layouts that look real. The more I try and practice, the happier I am with the results - that's the key! Merry Xmas.

Lovely to see proper trains being used on the layout. Just remember that the 5F wasn’t just a freight locomotive. Some of them, such as the Ongar Shuttle from Liverpool Street to Ongar Station on which commuters were transported to London.

The progress you made in a year really shows when you go through your past videos in order like me tonight. Inspirational but also slightly daunting at how much i need to learn. Merry Xmas. Ps. Your scratch building skill is impressive.

Hi. Thanks for your kind comments. My buildings are just framers card with Plasticard surfaces. The secret is a good drawing and photos, plus decent windows and rainwater goods. My first few buildings were awful - just practice and be prepared to fail. There are a few good books on modelling buildings which are worth the investment. Even if you don't match the standards shown in the book, everything learned is useful. I'll do a Quick Bites on buildings in the New Year.

I am jealous, you have a J39 that actually runs, I have bought one off eBay which is dead as a Dodo, so I have that world of pain sending it back. Now I know you can criticise me for eBay purchases, but I have exactly the same problem, bought a Hornby J15 from reputable retailer, also dead as a Dodo, so chopped it in for, wait for it, an Oxford Rail Dean Goods, a marvelous engine, pristine engineering that would put a Swiss watch to shame, so my version of Yarslow loosely based on Corton is currently serviced by a L&Y Crab and a Dean Goods, marvelously reliable engines, but neither belong in East Anglia.

Hi David. I have 3 or 4, all fairly old and all from eBay. They are somewhat basic and don't compare with modern offerings but, if you get the top off, failings might be a simple fix??? A Dean Goods in East Anglia though? Nice looking loco in your defence - can you wangle an excursion or little-known loco exchange story? I promise not to let on if you just blag it. Happy Xmas.

Many Dean Goods locos were handed over to the ROD/WD during WWI, hugely versatile, perhaps you could get away with modellers licence in that it's away from home shed.. A number survived long enough to serve in Europe in WWII, and beyond.

Believe it or not, the J32 was the locomotive involved in the Runaway Train accident at Ongar Station.
