It’s kind of hard to believe that this is sung by the same person who played hope harcourt in anything goes and Cinderella in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Wow. She’s got range.
This kinda sounds country... I like it. And Laura Osnes... Holy Crabcakes, that girl can sing. (She almost reminded me of Carrie Underwood for a second)

I've been in an off-Broadway show, and opening night I heard this and had to take out earbuds and turn on music. XD I had this stuck in my head for a WEEK. It was such a sad week.
Okay I know this is about Bonnie dying with Clyde but can we talk about how she started singing this in response to blanche’s argument to her? Because while this is what Bonnie is clinging onto, the knowledge that she’ll die with Clyde, Blanche will not die with buck, she lives the rest of her life until she’s 77, still having the memory of his death. The only time that is sad is “when ones left behind” so ouch :))
@Katherine Howard i know she wasnt with him the moment he died but didnt she still try to be around him? like i think she would hold his wrist to feel his pulse at night or something. i dont know tho, i could be wrong. either way it's sad as hell
@Katherine Howard You are being too literal. Blanche was at his side when he was shot down. He never regained consciousness, even if technically he lived for a few more days.
I just started learning this, and oddly enough I find 'dusty air' pretty easy (there's a good build through the line), but I have trouble with 'just once' :/
I auditioned to sing this song solo, just for another girl to get it. It still haunts me and ruins me because I have to see her sing my favorite song, that I spent months practicing for.
At 0:40, I thought that was a soprano sax, but I'm thinking it was an English horn. It's played way too effortlessly to be a soprano sax. It's beautiful! 😃🤩

Apparently, Wildhorn had a beef with some critics who got revenge by trashing it in the reviews.

Dyin' ain't so bad
Not if you both go together
Only when one's left behind does it get sad
But a short and lovin' life
That ain't so bad
I only hope to God that I go first
I couldn't live on memories
I'm sorry, but I'm not that strong
There are some things in life you can't replace
A love like ours don't happen twice
When all his days are through
Mine will be too
'Cause dyin' ain't so bad
Not if you both go together
Only when one's left behind does it get sad
But a short and lovin' life
That ain't so bad
I've met boys who talk 'bout farms and horses
And they don't do much for me
I don't need to end up in a rockin' chair
Seems you get to live your life just once
If that's how it's gotta be
Then I'd rather breathe in life than dusty air
Dyin' ain't so bad
Not if you both go together
Only when you're left alone does it get sad
But a short and lovin' life
A short and lovin' life
A short and lovin' life
That ain't so bad

in the last section, do the lyrics change to "assured in love and life"?
No, it's "A short and lovin' life" all times. But it's her American pronunciation of 'A short and.'
