I’ve been a maximalist for about 60 years and I can hardly believe that so many young folks are living with joy in the things they bring home. FINALLY! I’ve always heard condescending jokes and shaming for what others see as clutter. I love what the architect Philip Johnson said, “Less is not more. Less is a bore.”
I love me some maximalism! Thank you for making the point that it is less about clutter and more about showing your personality. I never saw it that way.
Ania I just found you and you are like a breath of fresh air. I hated that minimalist look - my house looked like nobody lived there but I was smart and I didn't throw any of the things I loved out - they are all in the basement in bins so now I am going to take everything out of the bins and put them out so I can see all the beautiful things I have. I'm a " maximimilst " by nature, but it's not a hodge podge of " stuff" , and I believe when it's done well, it looks and feels good. A lot of the examples were so busy and so much stuff ,there's no place for the eye to rest. ....there is a way to show one's personality, and have your home " say something about who you are " without overcrowding and feeling like you cannot even relax in such a busy looking space. Just MHO.
I tried minimalist design style for over 10 year and could bare nothing with colour. Lately I can't stand minimalist design and have gone with the complete opposite. Don't get me wrong living the minimalist life has many mental health benefits. Now I have started living with colour and I feel more at peace with myself. The transition is not an easy one but I like how it makes me feel when I see different colours play out in my home. Great video 👍
I love this look. It's how I'm styling my home. I appreciate different styles but can't understand why someone would want to live in a white home with no personality!
You can really tell you enjoy this design style :) It's how I discovered your channel hahaha! Love that you've featured it more than a few times. Curated design with an intentional color palate and lots of layering of textures and pattern. It can look breathtakingly beautiful if done well by someone who is a true artist. It's a style you cant create in a week, it can take years of collecting just the right things.
Right! I grew up loving the Antique stores and collecting items. I am not a hoarder, I just love beautiful, vintage items and when I find something I love, I keep it forever. So for me this style is my authentic self. Although I would say I am more minimalist in my approach the overall eclectic / maximalist vibe is totally me.

Maximalism - This is a great educational video. Maximalism. "I CAN, NOT SHOULD I". MORE IS GOOD. JOY WILL COME FROM OUTSIDE OF ME. POSESSION IS KING. MATERIRAL WEALTH DEFINES ME AND IS GOOD. I'M UNABLE TO APPRECIATE THE BEAUTY OF JUST A FEW OBJECTS IN A ROOM. TO CONSUME IS GOOD. I WILL SPEND MY LIFE WORKING MUCH HARDER AND LONGER FOR THINGS I DON'T NEED. PLANET EARTH HAS ENDLESS RESOURCES. LET OUR CHILDREN WILL PICK UP THE BILL ON MAXIMALISM.... Cool Interior Design Style with some drawbacks !!
You should probably watch my maximalist vs minimalist video. I have never talked about consumerism. But there is a lot of stuff out there. Most maximalists collect over time, and appreciate vintage and antiques. Any style can be all the things you "YELLED" or they don't have to be. That is life and personal choices.

You're a Designer who has covered an area of Design and you covered it very well. You made a good video and I liked it, thank you and it has generated debate on your channel. However, the clue is in the name "Maximalism"!! Some questions for you. Does Design include Responsibility? e.g. Tiger rugs etc. Is it not the Duty of the Designer to share their knowledge and experience to point out the pit-falls (pros and cons) of certain Designs? Personal choice is personal choice, but do Designers ask Questions of Design styles and Guide? But, you made a good video. I liked it, well done. And sorry I have asked some fundamental questions that underpin your passion, Design. AND Keep making the videos!!
