    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MehranHadad it’s because the flash is placed so it will not reflect in the shiny parts of the lipsticks. Don’t know if that answer makes you any wiser?

    Final images so nice. And yes. The world has been taken over by hard light. I lost out on a bid for a Neutrogena job and I think part of it was I didn't have as many hard shadow images as the woman who ended up being awarded the project--but also she is good at cosmetics, etc. Yesterday I was shooting at an advertising agency's studio and for the first time they asked for a bit softer light...but then came back and said can I add a hard light. My sensibility responds more to soft light (I've been shooting for 23 years) but the photo market doesn't care 🤪

    It is a bit confusing, it's hard to tell from the angle of the vlog camera. The diffusion paper isn't direct blocking the line of sight between the light and the products, it is slightly off to the side so that it matches the angle of the camera? Or it is directly in between the light and product?
    Thank you so much in advanced. Again, I'm learning so much from you, and am seriously indebted to you!

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a lot! Sorry about the camera in this video, not so good.
      The bare flash is a bit to the left side of the camera, up high in the ceiling. That bare flash hits the products.
      The diffusion is just outside the frame top, you can say that it's in the same angle as the camera angle, in that way the whole scene will pick up the reflection from the lit up diffusion.
      Don't know if this make sense? 😁

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it's the D2's. If you're starting out it might be a bit too expensive. Might want to look at Elinchrom, I would get to used flashes and start testing. For this particular photo any flashes will work.

I'm using one head as the main source with the box still on the head but no diffuser, and the other light as a fill to lighten the shadow. I'm just starting out, so any help would be appreciated. • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would suggest that you take the softbox off, and have nothing on. The flash/light source need to be as small as possible.

  • @PhotoDesignbyTFR
    @PhotoDesignbyTFR 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have done this type of lighting before ... the light that is passing thru the diffusion material softens the quality of light that that falls on that portion of the scene that it passes thru ... the hard light is going past the edge of diffusion material and is striking that portion of the product as "undiffused" light ... which gives the hard shadows and harsh contrast for that portion of the subject. The angle of the camera sees the single light source as two different types of light. Think of it like if you were wearing a pair of sunglasses and one lens was missing and your eyes were the camera.
    You would actually see two different types of light from a single source.

I am not an ambassador or something of a brand, and i dont get money for sharing this, but there are gels what you looking for. They call Cool/Warm Colours Filter Kit (30x30 cm), FOMEI. Is it possible to replicate this hard shadows using continuous light such as led bulbs?

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hm... yes I believe it would be possible, the problem might be that the bulb is not so powerful like flashes. Crank up the ISO and stay at big aperture like f1.4-2.8 then it might work, make sure to be in a complete dar room.

    I'm still a little confused as to how much exactly the diffusion is covering the products to allow the hard light to pass through. Wish I could see another angle :(

    • @botvidsson
      @botvidsson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, sorry about that. Bad angle. The diffusion is not really covering the products at all, it's placed at the same angle (But mirrored) as the camera angle so the diffusion reflects into the products... It's hard to explain in writing... Guess I need to do a new tutorial 😃

    • @stevenmorales5278
      @stevenmorales5278 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@botvidsson If I understand correctly.... the camera is seeing the "soft" light that is being bounced back into the scene from the light reflecting underneath the diffusion? In other words, the soft light is NOT coming from light passing THROUGH the diffusion, but from the light that is reflecting of the shiny surface, onto the under side of the diffusion, and then back onto the scene?

    • @dulceestajugando5124
      @dulceestajugando5124 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@botvidsson yes please!!!!!!!!!!!!! its very confusing please do that tutorial!!!

    • @PhotoDesignbyTFR
      @PhotoDesignbyTFR 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have done this type of lighting before ... the light that is passing thru the diffusion material softens that portion of the light on that part of the scene that it passes thru ... the hard light is going past the diffusion material and striking those areas of the product as "undiffused" light ... which gives the hard shadows and harsh contrast for that portion of the subject. The angle of the camera sees the single light source as two different types of light. Think of it like if you were wearing a pair of sunglasses and one lens was missing and your eyes were the camera.
      You would actually see two different types of light from a single source.

    • @botvidsson
