For anyone out there wanting to paint fabric or rugs, simply use a CHALK paint (they are clay based) - no fabric softener or additives needed. The natural pigments of chalk paints will DYE the fibers of the rug, not sit ON TOP of the fibers like regular acrylic paints, which causes the cracking and the moment of hell demonstrated here. 😊 If you want to paint fabrics, upholstery, rugs, watch an Annie Sloan video or two where she demonstrates painting materials (or Debis Design Diaries, another inventor of chalk paint who paints rugs and sofas) and do yourself the favor of using a CHALK paint instead of an acrylic paint ❤

I’ve used Annie Sloan paints in a few projects. They are fabulous. I didn’t know you could use them on rugs, filing that information for the future.

That is a nice glass top. mirrored top will somewhat hide the base of the table and glorious Pete.

As always, my heart swells with joy to witness Lady Baguette's ( 🐈🌟) unwavering support of everything you strive for. Though tbh the swelling could just be too much cheese. And cake.

What a bruttaly honest review of your rug hack 😅sometimes it's just trial and error to get where u want to be :-) by the way, if u want a really spezific and or big sized area rug on a budget, u can always buy carpet and let the seller finish it with a machine (there is serging, binding and fringing). Serging and binding usually isn't that expensive, at least where I live. Myself I dont have any bc I can't be trusted with a liquid - or, let's face it: any food at all 😂

I had a cotton rug and just used acrylic paint watered down and it worked fine. I’ve washed it and folded it repeatedly and it’s still good. It stayed soft. I also used a remnant of carpet hand sewed some woven cotton binding ribbon in a matching colour around the edge to prevent fraying and spray painted a pattern. Then lay it on a non slip mat pad ( because carpet has that foamy backing that will stick to stuff) and again it worked.

On a higher pile rug, I wonder if using thick bleach as “paint” would work better than fabric paint? Or, if the rug is wool or natural fiber, you could even use hair dye!! 😯 Ohhh I am feeling inspired 😁… I HATE my current living room carpet with a passion and I want to tear it out! Buuuut🤔😏 what if I cut out a section and diy my dream carpet!🤩 I might just have to try it!! Idk how yet as I’m fairly certain it’s made of synthetic fiber, I’m gonna have to do my research on dyes and see what will work 😊!

  • @efrag24

Haha I wouldn't paint a rug because I don't have time for that. I want to be able to take my rug and throw it in the washer or shampoo over it with my machine without a worrying if all ny work is going to be ruined. But that's just me. But the low pile rug with spray paint looks cool. Also as for your comment I think changing the top to the antique mirrored top would look very nice. The warmer brassy tones it gives off would go nice with the colors you have going on and give it an elevated look in my opinion 😉

You should start a crowdfunding campaign for a custom-made NSYNC carpet...

Antiqued mirror top sounds cool, but, as you say, it will hide Peter🦚. Could you do an antique mirror tray and put it on part of the coffee table? Say less then half, and on the window side, so Pete still gets to shine? And Baguette doesn’t have to talk to us, many of your viewers are probably also cat slaves who completely understand the ‘I do not speak unless you have displeased me’ thing. Awesome rug hack - sorry your first attempt was disappointing!

This is a great idea. I am definitely itching to do some antique mirror hack in some project.

you should have taken bleach and taken the color out then used Ritz dye for all the colors
The colors come out strong and durable . I am an artist and I just did the same thing just with graphics.
    Love you work God bless

I hear ya. A few reasons for that. But a big one is that the cat plays a little sliding-treats-across the-floor game to get her energy out in a very specific way and a larger rug would interfere with her runway 😂

My advice to you is to try DIY paints for painting any type of fabric or rug. They become like dyes for the textile and are absorbed into the fibers so there isn't the ability to crack from sitting on top of the fibers. www.youtube.com/@DebisDesignDiary has tutorials on how to paint fabric etc. The clay-based paint is highly pigmented and therefore the colors remain vivid. No extra supplies needed life fabric softener etc. Just water and DIY paint. ENJOY!!
