I’ve found a quick and easy way to get perfect circles on the first time.
Imagine the elliptical tool is creating a square around your circle, with one corner being on the original point you clicked, and the opposite corner being your mouse pointer.
If you had a way to make a perfect square around the circular object, you could just click in one corner of this square, and move your mouse to the opposite corner, and the circle produced would perfectly select the circular object.
An easy way to make this happen is to click and drag a guide line down from the top ruler to the top of the circle.
Click and drag a guide line from the ruler on the left to the right side of the circle. Then all you have to do is click in the corner you’ve just made with two guidelines, and drag with the elliptical tool.

Quick tip for where to start making a selection for this ball or any other objects like this: You can drag one guide from top ruler to the top edge of the ball, and drag another guide from left to the left edge of the ball. So you can start making selection from the intersection point of two guides (which is around the top-left corner of the ball).

Thanks for this - it's such a simple trick when you know how! I know I will use this a lot, especially after you explained it so well.
Just one thing - manipulating a selection is much easier than you made it look. You can move a selection just using the arrow keys, and manipulate it with 'Transform Selection' (resize, distort, rotate, move, etc).

Oh, I dont know if this is already mentioned, but in case you dont know, the selection of the circle starts at the corner of the square containing the circle selection. So whenever I need to make a circle selection of something I always use the RULER tool and then mark 2 guide lines touching the ball. Then start the mouse at the cross of the 2 lines.

What I do is make guides at the edges of the ball, (top, right, bottom, left) creating a square guide. Now, hold shift while at circular selection tool. Drag and point cursor on any corner of the guides until you reach the opposite end of the guide, diagonally. Now you have a perfect circular selection of an object. Modify selection and contract the selection a bit.

    Hi Anmesh!
You are an amazing instructor: I have learned so much from your tutorials!
May be I can contribute with a smal suggestion when it comes to "finding the (exact) starting point for a circular selection?
Drag four guides and create a square which is TANGENT to the ball.
Then pick the circular markee tool and start dragging a circle from (exactly) the left up corner to (exactly) the right down corner...
You don't even need to hold the Shift key.... geometry does the job!😄😄😁☀️☀️☀️
I hope this is worth sharing!
Thank you again for the huge amount of useful information thet you make easily available!

Just a little correction regarding the field blur. It's not an overall blur like the gaussian blur, because you can set multiple points and adjust the amount of blur for every point separately. If you're using two points, one with a low amount of blur and the other with a higher amount, the blur between those points will increase constantly from the value of point 1 to the value of point 2. That is pretty much the same effect like you got with the iris blur in your example. But you're not limited to 2 points. Using more points, you can do really weird stuff.

To select a circular object I do something different different. I put two guide lines, a horizontal guide aligned with the top of the object, and a vertical guide aligned with the left side of the object. Then I initially click the elliptical marquee on the intersection of the guides and drag the selection to match the circular object. Then I clear the guides. It's quick and simple.

If you use the ruler to drag a guideline from the top until you reach the ball's upper edge and then another one from the left side to the left side edge, drag the circle selection with shift from the top left corner of the guideline until you cover the entire ball. This way you will get an exact selection size as the ball.
