I only backed this game because the publisher Road to infamy gave out one of their previous games, Crypt, in a pay what you want promotion to assist people with passing the time during the COVID lockdown. I appreciated their generosity and so I backed Canvas, which was actually my first back on kickstarter ever, (though with more to come later). It helped that the page was put together so professionally and the game was gorgeous. I do agree that there could be a smidgen more clarity of the rules. My concern is whether the game will start to feel same-y after many plays, but definitely a 9.5 for me. If you missed the kickstarter, I really recommend it when it comes out in retail.
At first the backers were going to vote for the solo mode that they liked the best to be in the game. The designers liked both for different reasons so they included both.
This has become my go-to solo game because of the quick setup and teardown time and painting gimmick. I tied the designer's score but haven't beaten it yet... d'oh!
@@michaeldilisio557 We're on the same page, Mike! I think it's a little smoother in game flow and less management (plus it's kinda fun throwing the tokens in the air)
One of the main reasons I didn't back this was I didn't find the solo variants that interesting, just another "beat your own score" game with a twist, which I already have a few of.
To add some challenge, check out this variant on BGG. It assigns some points to the cards removed and makes the bot someone to beat. boardgamegeek.com/thread/2588632/adding-tension-solo-variant-1
I knew Mike would love this. Predicting its in his top 50s list for 2021.

I also recommend the scoring card easel thing
Excellent review! This one goes on my wish list.

Nice idea to present the scoring conditions, at least as long as all players can look at it from the same side.
The instructions also do not mention if we are allowed to make a painting that results in a one-word name. We assumed it's OK.
The game is sitting on my shelf 😱 still need to and really want to play it😅
Missed opportunity ... Mike DeLis(i)olo
Seems a good game. Not yet available here though.
My copy hasnt shipped yet, but I see those wooden tokens and think i should have gotten the deluxe
No one ever mentions the Bonus cards in their Canvas reviews.
What solo variant do you recommend?
I prefer the AI variant over the puzzle variant, but the experiences aren’t drastically different.

I don’t always like high score variants, but for puzzle games like this, I think they work well.

Beat your high score games are good sometimes and it was a good review as always but think I'll stick with Calico.
I watched the vid, but in no way I'm going to hit Like, since its absolutely not necessary
