Also of note after the collapse of the first Susquehanna river bridge. A temporary junction was constructed to the PRR at the area around oakington. On the far side the existing connection between the B and O and the port road branch of the PRR that joined the Philadelphia to Baltimore mainline at perryville
So there is some more back story to the saving of the station. It was the maintenance of way headquarters for the philly sub, under roadmaster Buck Gray, when he retired, his assistant who succeeded him. Dave Lackford, promised to save his bosses old office, he stalled and prevented the demolition of the station
A couple of errors. The B&O never went railroad east(north directionally) of Philadelphia. They had trackage agreements over the reading at park jct in Philadelphia and the CNJ. They did have a controlling interest in the Staten island railroad and operated through that in the north jersey and NYC market. Including some car float operations
Another error, csx was created as a corporate merger of the seaboard coastline industries and the chessie system on 1 November 1980, originally intended as a holding company or corporate power. Control of the seaboard started in 1986bbefore taking control of the chessie in 1987. It was never originally intended to be an operating entity and no one planned to ever see a train with csx on the side in fact reporting mark rules forced the t on the end of csxt as x refers to private non carrier ownership
Thanks Pete and Mary for publishing this update on the Station Restoration project. It was very interesting. Ed & MaryAnn Brady
