Literally everyone who wants to improve their inspection should watch this video. I don’t even use CFOP and this video has been a godsend for my planning. Can’t thank you enough.
Woke up today, cubed a bit, realized that I suck, realized it’s because I don’t know cross+1, decided to learn it, too lazy so instead I watch TH-cam, Brian sun posts this (true story)
For those who struggle with cross+1, don’t worry. I used to feel the same. In fact it was so difficult for me I had to ask Jayden for inspiration lmao. Eventually, by forcing myself to plan first pair every time, I got used to it.
great video, and perfect timing 😅. just a suggestion, but if you do a second video on this topic could you do a bit on preserving prebuilt pairs? i always break pairs in my cross solution.
Judging by your comment answers and your tone in your videos you seem to have grown up quite a bit! Thank you for your video, tips and your growth, it makes your videos even more enjoyable to watch !
I think one interesting topic would be the tradeoff between prioritizing a pair that is barely disturbed by the cross solution at all despite being in a less desirable slot, so that you have more inspection time, vs prioritizing a pair with a more desirable slot like back left even if it's harder and more time consuming to plan. Or maybe you're so experienced that time isn't really an issue for you idk. Ofc I'm sure it depends on the complexity of the cross itself. It'd be cool to hear that thought process from someone of your skill level, maybe through some walkthroughs or something. Just an idea
I'm trying to get better&more efficient on solving the cross, thanks for the tutorial! Just a tip - if you kept the cube a bit more still, it would be easier to see the pieces and follow what you're doing
im still working on my cross +1, this hopefully will help me learn more about it. what i would like to see in future is if there are two free pairs. i had a scramble the other day in which i had 2 free pairs but took way too long to do cross while preserving both pairs. maybe something like that in future could be helpful(?)
lol, you need to track pairs the way I show in the video Keep your finger on a specified sticker of a piece than track it, this way you’ll know the orientation
@@BrinaSun I'm guessing you've now reached the point where you're able to do at least cross+1 without tracking the first pair's pieces with your finger, maybe even cross+2 right ? So when practicing cross+3, are you still doing the finger thing until the process becomes so natural you'll be able to do it mentally ?
@@JohnAJ-07 you know, i don’t actually really use the finger method, I just do it in my brain The finger method is for an explanation for this video that makes sense
If you start the last solution with a D you get an x-cross and a free pair. (And after that you can do pseudo slotting but I couldn't see that in inspection.)
do you ever reconsider after you track your pair and both pieces end up in separate slots? so horrible case. i guess you just track something different cause you track fast, but if i’m currently still to slow with planning i’m out of luck I usually pick an edge where i know it wont move much first, but that sometimes is front right pair. often i try forcing to track for back left pair but then it ends up being in a horrible position. as a 16s avg solver, i often run out of inspection to change plans .. currenlty at least
@@BrinaSun ahh! interesting. I thought you’d take whatever good pieces you see and can maybe immediately tell its gonna be good, regardless of which slot it would be. but then, maybe instead of religning cross with D moves, you do wide U moves to then have that planned pair in the back
Hey Brian! I have a question for you. How do you remember the cross solution or cross+1? With notations like you did in the video or by the fingertricks?
How do you decide between prioritising first pairs and easier cross, especially when you see blocks and easy pairs already set up, but require harder cross to maintain?
i decide using my ability to discern whether something will be faster to execute than something else, its more about the execution speed and less about the movecount
Do you actually plan with move notation during inspection? That seems like it would help a lot and might be the difference for me, but I know it would slow me down a lot at first
When i try to plan cross + 1 my mind just explodes every time like i remember what case i would get for my first pair but i forget my corss solution or sometimes even worse like planning cross +1 for about 5 minutes and eventually i decide to just do the cross cuz it's too much for my brain to process do u have a solution pls ?
also should i be able to find the most efficient cross or is it fine to start practicing cross+1 if I do it less effiiently like if i only find an 8 move cross on a 7 move one?
Just a couple of months ago , I broke my laziness and began to precalculate first pairs (after years of cubing omg) and immediately, pb decreased for seconds
on the 3rd scramble you can also do\ x2 // inspection U' R' F D2 R' F' U' L F' L' R' U' R D // xcross U R U' R' L U2 L' // 2nd pair R' F R F' R U R' // 3rd pair U2 F' r U r' // 4th pair U2 r U' r2 U r2 U r2 U' r // OLL U R U R' F' R U R' U' R' F R2 U' R' U2 // PLL I got a 6.84 on this solution it is 58 moves so 8.48TPS
