I truly adore that Tarantino tried to bring this genious to the English market. The more you hear Tarantino talking about Takeshi, you know he has a genuine interest.
Wait a minute, and he also worked as a scale salesman and a cab driver, which is why he had those characters in Kids Return. I’m just now realizing how personal of a film that is for him.
I loved Violent Cop and Sonatine very much, but even if Sonatine is a more complete and perfect work, I find Violent Cop more original and exciting, I put Kitano on the same level as Kurosawa, Ozu and Mizoguchi
I once read that Kitano is not a fan of Tarantino's movies. If I remember right, he thought it's just violence and not deep (don't nail me on this though). Anyway, I doubt he would appreciate a role in a Tarantino movie, when he dislikes his style. Imagine a film maker being directed by a film maker, that does everything the way he doesn't like.
I have never seen this. I really appreciate his respect toward Japanese films. Especially he knows a lot about movies in 70s and 80s. He is so right that “jingi” can’t be translated as “honor. ” he knows well.
It's why in English it's called Battles without honor or humanity. Quentin Tarantino stole the Soundtrack from them and used it for all his slow-walks, explosions, and violence-stylized shots. QT could never host Wipeout and be anywhere near as cool as Takeshi's Castle!
Thank you for giving Takeshi Kitano credits, I LOVE his movies, the action movies I should say, where he play a cop or yakuza gangster, both in his kind of humor, sadness and violence make him unique. Same Tarantino is one of a kind unique.
As expected, Tarantino. The scene where a killer fisherman throws flowers in the sky is introduced first. The reason why this movie becomes a "movie textbook" is how to use the "red" in the scene from here until the blood that Takeshi's subordinates are shot dead.
Of course Tarantino likes Kitano and Fukasaku . You can see 1500 pieces of his films gathered in the Tarantino's films The worst thing is not many people out of Japan really know about the amazing comedian past-life of the great Takeshi Kitano before he starting to make movies
with every concurrent effort of Tarantino we see the weakness being revealed ...was never any more than a rip-off artist ...vastly over-hyped ..not a true master of cinema at all .... !!!!!!!!!!!!
People pull the trigger without hesitation and die indifferently. Even if we cling to life like waves, death is always there, like a calm sea. Rather than a sense of despair leading up to annihilation, there is a clear beauty that cannot be expressed through dialogue alone. Personally, I think it's a masterpiece among Kitano's films, and I want you to see it before you die.
Takeshi Kitano had his mistress's picture exposed by paparazzi, and an angry Kitano and his crew stormed into the weekly magazine's office and beat up several reporters in the office. On June 10, 1987, Takeshi was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for two years. This was still before Kitano took the film.
In the end Quentin Tarantino mentions Japanese version of Johnny Mnemonic, does anyone know where you can watch/buy/rent it? I've only watched the American cut of it.
THE TITLE IS WRONG, KITANO WROTE HIS FILMS LONG BEFORE TARANTINO, AND HIS STYLE IS UNIQUE, HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TARANTINO. I THINK THAT IT MAYBE IT WAS THE REVERSE, TARANTINO WAS INSPIRED BY KITANO, IT IS THE SAFEST THING.
Rolling Thunder Pictures was a short-lived film distribution company, set up under Miramax Films by Quentin Tarantino. It specialized on releasing independent, cult, or foreign films to theaters. The company was created in 1995 but closed in 1999.
@@crushed_oreos I remember buying the Rolling Thunder vhs releases of Chunking Express and Sonatine back in the day. This concept was done way too early, so many cult/genre boutique blu ray companies exist now, his company probably would've had some success had he done this later on
More Kitano coming soon !
Tarantino moving around the screen like a DVD logo
Excatly. Haha that's really funny.
Can’t wait for him to hit the corner
He's more than likely high on cocaine...
This comment made me laugh uncontrollably.
Let’s cheer together when QT hits the corner 🎉

50.000+ years of human being on Earth. I was born in the same period of Takeshi Kitano... This is quite precious
Very true, alot of us take the now for granted
overstated a bit, but okay

@@kaxerrr ^ That's bait
And now think that you got to live in the periode Quentin Dupieux's making movies
Kitano was actually a school dropout that started out as stand up comedian, he came a long way despite all teh odds.
even before that, he dropped out of meiji university, one of the most prestigious universities in japan
Wait a minute, and he also worked as a scale salesman and a cab driver, which is why he had those characters in Kids Return. I’m just now realizing how personal of a film that is for him.
Glad to see my fav director talking about my favourite director of my favourite film of my favourite actor
Sonatine is perfect, every scene, every line.
indeed it is quite memorable and I'm happy I came across it
I loved Violent Cop and Sonatine very much, but even if Sonatine is a more complete and perfect work, I find Violent Cop more original and exciting, I put Kitano on the same level as Kurosawa, Ozu and Mizoguchi
That's a bold statement! Takeshi is a master but Kurosawa is the grandmaster! :)
He's better dude. Nobody has quite reached Kitano's emotional drive.
I agree with you. I’d put Naruse or Shimizu instead of Kurosawa, though
@@DjKaimov Takeshi never got anywhere near Ozu tbh
Kitano is no master .....-merely semi-competent ...be Realistic .
to this day I am very surprised Tarantino never got kitano to be in any of his films... ever!!!???
why would Takeshi respect a loud mouth punk like Tarantino ???? . . . .think about it ......

No, he said in an interview that Tarantino's films do interesting things.
Just watched that movie yesterday. And TH-cam recommended me this video, thanks for uploading it.

not quite...he's respecting someone called Beat Takashi

Tarantino is a major geek and we can all be thankful for that. Best Director alive.

Is everyone else here after watching the bfi takeshi trilogy?
Yep haha.
Awesome movie. Period.....
His he the same guy who starred with David bowie?
Yes
yup, in Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence
Can you just pin him? Seeing him drifting on the screen drives me crazy 🤦♂️
Never seen this one before! Was this featured in the Rolling Thunders release of Sonatine? Thanks for sharing this gem 😎
I don't think so. I have that tape, and there is no intro or outro. Just the film.
It's so weird to see a sober Tarantino.
How does he seem sober here?

Where is this clip from? Is there a club where Quentin Tarantino introduces and discusses films?

For a self proclaimed Japanese cinephile, Tarantino's pronunciation is terrible. Its TakEshi.
Wait until you here how Japanese people pronounce English words.
