The orange skin thing happened to my mom when I was a kid! She was constantly eating carrots as a snack and we noticed a slight orange tint. She cut back and it went away pretty quickly.
Hey Mat! I'm gluten intolerant and made gluten free pancakes the other night. However I didn't have regular sugar so I used brown sugar instead. Then I didn't have milk so I mixed water with sour cream. It came out great. What I am saying is you should have a test where you make food with ONLY substitutions and see how far you can take it without people noticing.
As someone who really loves red velvet cake, I can definitely sympathize with the kids and parents from the berry cereal part. Nothing more horrifying than thinking your dying of internal bleeding when you're just suffering from a bit too much food dyeing instead.
As a baby I had orange skin! I ate so many veggies that my skin turned orange. At the time my family was stationed in Germany. She freaked out, being a new mom and all, and took me to the doctor. It's a good story to look back and laugh at now.
Fun fact, blueberry smoothies that use actual blueberries will do the "turn your poo green" thing, too! The reason for this is because of Anthocyanins, which are actually usable as a pH indicator. They're bluish-purple when their surroundings are acidic, but a dull forest green color when their surroundings are alkaline. And wouldn't you know it, but the intestines use alkaline substances to protect themselves by neutralizing the stomach acid that your body uses to digest your food.
When I was a baby, I was a big fan of carrot baby food (as well as some of the other orange ones like mango). My parents have pictures of me with a little orange nose. 😂
Hey MatPat, I have an idea for a Food Theory. Is it possible to survive by just the water in food and not drinking any water? Which foods would be best for this scenario and would there be any consequences for eating too much too meet your water intake needs?
I once ate so much watermelon in one sitting that my pee was clear. Watermelon would be a good food in my opinion. I didn't have anything else out of the ordinary. Was just really full because of the volume of watermelon in my stomach, but that was over quickly since it was a lot of water and sugar that is easy to digest.
The carrot thing happened to my coworker when she was pregnant with her twins. She’d eat a whole bag of baby carrots over the course of our shift. Ironically, both girls are allergic to carrots 🤣
Nice story, interesting fact: Beta-Carotine (the orange making thing) is a precursor to Vitamin A. High(-ish) levels of Vitamin A can be very dangerous during pregnancies. Thats why pregnant women are told to stay away from liver and retinoids (topical creams for skin). High in pure Vitamin A. But the thing is, when you eat a lot of carrots it will not immediately increase vitamin A levels in your body. When your body senses that it has enough Vitamin A, it stops converting Beta-Carotine into Vitamin A. TLDR; Beta-Carotine turns into Vitamin A but can be stopped converting when levels are sufficient, pregnant women should not eat things high in Vitamin A. Carrots are fine bcz of previously stated mechanism.
Its kinda like my mom ate so much chocolate whilst pregnant i dont like usually like chocolate that much and prefer other candies ive had enough🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Even for easter i dont eat much chocolate lololol
As a baby, my son''s favorite thing to eat was the carrot baby food, turning down pretty much anything else. Yeah, his skin turned a light orange. It looked a bit like jaundice and I freaked out, rushing him to the ER. After the scare was over, i recall that I could see the doctor and nurse holding back smirks while being polite, telling me I was just feeding him too much carrot.
@@takobe7651 Troll. When you have a first child, and you actually care about the well being your child, it doesn't take much to get you worried. Maybe this doesn't apply to you.
That happened to my cousin as well, but fortunately his mom had a medical doctor (her dad/my grandpa) living in the same house, so he was able to tell her it wasn't jaundice.

How many did you have. I drank 1-2 a day for 8 months straight and it caused me to have seizures due to way too many electrolytes. Had many tests to find that out. I stopped drinking them for almost 3 months now and haven't had a seizure since. Just be careful on the intake of sports drinks. Just a warning because seizures are not very fun
If u wanna do another gatorade focused food theory, learn a bit about gatorade's effect in SFN (small fiber neuropathy) and more specifically, the hypotension parts of it. I was told a couple of yrs ago, after my sfn diagnosis, that drinking gatorade zero was the best way to treat the hypotension that comes from my small fiber neuropathy. Probably due to the electrolytes they supply. But yeah, it Definitely helped me. If I drank a 12 oz bottle of gatorade zero a day, it made my heart palpitation issue almost disappear and my dizzy spells/lightheaded issues got extremely lessened. But I got "sick of" the taste of gatorade n drinking more woulda made me throw up. It helps my body but makes my digestive system hate me more than it already does. It was the best treatment. But like any food, consuming too much makes it disgusting.
was it the sugar that was helping, or the electrolytes? because you can buy electrolyte powder to add to water that taste of almost nothing, and assuming the sugar wasn't necessary for the treatment, it's way better to have less sugar daily as well
If I am really symptomatic from my dysautonomia, I drink Gatorade zero as well. I also have small fiber neuropathy. It helps...I replaced maybe 500ml of my 2L of water with Gatorade Zero. I am also so tired of it, though.
0:18 Happened to my grandma. She legitimately thought she had eaten so much carrot she was turning into a carrot and was so afraid of fully turning into a carrot she stopped eating them all together and hasn’t eaten them in 10 years.
i remember hearing that gatorade was initially made with much less sugar and was specifically meant for athletes who were doing intense exercise at the same time as consuming the mineral rich drink. problem was that your average person also wanted to drink it as a flavored drink and the company found a bigger market in this. so they changed their product to be sweeter and such to make it taste better to the average person looking for a flavored drink that made them feel like they were drinking a "health" drink. marketed as something that fit people consume made people associate the drink as a health drink despite the fact that it wasn't meant to be a health drink in that way. but that mistaken association created a larger market and made more money for the company so there you go.

Thanks MatPat, and I appreciate you helping me learn, truly I'll continue to watch, learn, and enjoy your videos.

If you drink maybe a cup or two of the lime lemon coolaid, and you will pee neon green very fast. Happens to me every time and the first time i was freaked out 🤣
What you need is an _indicator_ that is sprayed on the body when it is sweating. It can react with the AMS garlic sweat and change color. It might be very subtle, or only visible with a UV light as well. But once there is _any_ color that's different from the skin, Photoshop, or the _secondary color correction_ feature of your video editor can turn it into the neon colors you craved.
Oh my gosh. Many years ago, I was prescribed those same ultra concentrated garlic pills for really bad acne. I took them faithfully and did see some improvement. Then, my parents sat me down and said they couldn't take the garlic smell anymore. I was upset but they were firm. No more garlic. Haha. Of course, I couldn't smell it but I bet it was awful!

I am so glad he's tackling this cuz I've been wondering this since I was a child watching all these Gatorade ads I'm like how did they even do glowing sweat is that even possible?
I’m unsure if MatPat will see this, but I do have an interesting story. One day I had to make stuff with onions and I had to chop quite a few of them. After I was all done with the onions I washed my hands, but the smell of the onions was still there. I tried washing my hands a bit longer, using a soap with a strong smell, and even tried showering. Nothing got rid of the smell and it just stayed for a couple of weeks. It is something that definitely feels like it fits with this episode a bit
I have a food theory idea: trying different types of water to see if they taste different. For example seeing if Fiji water tastes any better than Smart water.
They actually do, it's due to the mineral contents of it. They are usually added for taste and if your faucet has especially hard water another reason it tastes different. Another reason why you don't need to drink gatorade. Distilled water (which is 100% pure) is actually kinda bad tasting by comparison. We don't naturally have access to that purity and want the tiny bit of salt and minerals usually present.
@@Firesgone as someone who has a distiller, nope, distilled water tastes wonderful. it's just like smart water. and yes we would have access to water like that in nature - rainwater!
I played sports all my life and as a kid I always wanted to sweat like they did in those old commercials. I always begged my mom to buy me just Gatorade. That marketing worked 😂😂😂
I had an issue with the changing stool color recently. I bought some cupcakes from Walmart and they used way too much food coloring in the icing. I think whoever made them just put an entire container of food coloring in because eating the cupcakes, anywhere the icing touched was permanently colored for a few hours even after washing my hands.
I have a small patch of sweat glands om my right cheek (on my face of course) that will sometimes produce blue sweat. It doesn't happen often and only started in my teens. Definitely used to freak me out cuz I thought something was wrong with me 😵
Everyone loves how MatPat hypes you up into believing that the theory could be true, then shoots your hopes and dreams down at the very end explaining all the health risks.
You said the word "science" so often I'm surprised you didn't summon Austin. Speaking of which is there ever going to be an episode of THE SCIENCE that is on either Film or Food Theory?
1:00 a detail youre forgetting with that is that the University of Floridas mascot is the Gator. Its a fact most floridians know and as such at least hear in florida while anyone will drink gatorade it is still associated with UF and as such unless something changed recently FSU sells powerade on campus instead due to Seminoles V Gator Rivalry
i own/ operate a drycleaning plant, which means im constantly on the move and sweating alot... alot. i use powdered gatorade regularly, and it helps me keep my oldy joints from cramping. the powdered form seems to be better then the bottles.
I AM SO GLAD to know matpat knows about power thirst XD LOL YASSSS!!!! Cause that is what i was thinking about when i read the thumbnail and it made me even happier to hear him quote some of it lol

Can confirm, as someone who drinks almost exclusively "Cool Blue" Gatorade (Mmm, sugary saline :p) , I've never had me sweat turn blue, but DO regularly have trips to the bathroom where I leave the inside of the bowl painted blue.
Right from the start of the video, already dropping facts 😂 At field camp, I drank 10oz+ of V8 a day (2+ small cans, to try and help with vitamins and minerals) and by the second week I noticed my skin was a little more orange than normal 😅 At first, I thought it was just from all the desert sun but nope, it was the carrot juice in the V8 🥕🙃🥕

@@TrixyTrixter I think (someone can absolutely correct me) the bird seed would be more displacement than spring force, which would allow for different math
Alternative idea: douse yourself in a colored liquid while you’re already sweating to make it *look* colored. It may just be a simple magic trick, but at least (depending on what substance you decide to shower yourself in) it isn’t highly dangerous

Thanks MatPat, and I appreciate you helping me learn, truly I'll continue to watch, learn, and enjoy your videos.
smooth transision from carrots to glowing sweat. Matpat always suprises me with his humor, keep up the good work theorist.
3:39 “sweat dreams”
I see what you’re doing MatPat
oh no
You editors have always been top notch, but the visual at 12:23 made me laugh so loud that it scared my cat. Whoever did that one. Thank you for the moment, but my carpet isn't liking the aftermath.
8:24 My little brother actually swallowed one of those Lego tires when I was 4 and he was a few months old. It did actually come out the other end 2 days later with no physical damage done to it, just that it had been through his digestive system.
I love how MatPat makes videos we would never expect
You havent finished it yet
Videos we didn't know we wanted to watch.
I love matpat and his wife i want to add them to my collection
As someone who eats a lot of carrots, I can somewhat confirm. After a few too many a day, the area around my mouth will turn a very slight orange
8:49 "What makes a dye die"- matpat
Oh my gosh. Many years ago, I was prescribed those same ultra concentrated garlic pills for really bad acne. I took them faithfully and did see some improvement. Then, my parents sat me down and said they couldn't take the garlic smell anymore. I was upset but they were firm. No more garlic. Haha. Of course, I couldn't smell it but I bet it was awful!
noice.
Acne(some types of it)is caused by infection of the inside of the hair follicles and garlic is an antiseptic…
Those galactic cute candies will do it for you easily, at least for your twos. The dye in those is EXTREMELY concentrated.
I did not know my skin can turn orange if i eat too many carrots thank you for this life changing information

(Making fun of bots) 😢
I knew this long ago the magic school bus told me.
You'd better not try it now.
@@yallknowme4233 Let's be honest, no one likes those stupid bots that spam messages in every nook and cranny of the internet.
So you're saying that you drank a bunch of Gatorade to see if it would become... Rainbow?
MatPat: *sweats excitedly*

Would the same thing happen with Mountain Dew?
@Be Straight i am absolutely amazed at how bots have evolved

Matt is just a person who makes science SO INTERESTING to the intros the actual science to the outro even though I don’t understand the science (haha) but thanks Matt for making these channels so interesting to watch.
7:16 my mom used to do this to me, good memories.
That Powerthirst homage at the beginning really made the fact that I'm in my thirties now sink in... so, thanks for that. I would honestly be surprised if anyone under the age of 21 even remembers that era of flash animations/videos.
at 3:29 I don't think he was talking about Gatorade
I make cupcakes without oil and with apple sauce instead and give them away as a prank. They always turn people's poo bright green and it's always a hoot to see them debate whether green poo is worth it cause them cupcakes are frickin yummy af 😆

Woah. Recipe pls? Or is it just literally swapping oil with apple sauce, gram for gram? Any specific brand?
I gotta try this with my friends. Do you have a recipe?
Why are people worried about their poo being a different color? Do they post images on Facebook?
Cereal turns mine green. Lucky charms seem to do it the most.
7:46, Wow, Ness made an appearance!
0:08 Starfire cosplayers: oh no..... *anyways :D*
I took a break from the theory channels for a few months because they were starting to feel repetitive. Glad I came back to this banger!
3:58 You know it when Matpat regrets what he says...
I played sports all my life and as a kid I always wanted to sweat like they did in those old commercials. I always begged my mom to buy me just Gatorade. That marketing worked 😂😂😂
6:12 This straight up sounds like a Dr. Doofenshmirtz backstory flashback lmao
Fr 💀
I had an issue with the changing stool color recently. I bought some cupcakes from Walmart and they used way too much food coloring in the icing. I think whoever made them just put an entire container of food coloring in because eating the cupcakes, anywhere the icing touched was permanently colored for a few hours even after washing my hands.
As a red velvet cake fan I have had the same issue multiple times and panic a bit each time then the relief as I remember I'd been eating red velvet.
I love that the sweat on mats face here 3:38 is the theorist colors. Green,Red,Yellow. Very cool and a neat touch
That Powerthirst reference made me giggle, I'm so glad you had the opportunity and didn't pass up on it lol

I have a small patch of sweat glands om my right cheek (on my face of course) that will sometimes produce blue sweat. It doesn't happen often and only started in my teens. Definitely used to freak me out cuz I thought something was wrong with me 😵
yeah there is something wrong with you
Would like to know why it does that! 😲
That's cool!
It’s probably Chromhidrosis. Like Matt explained at 13:13
that's amazing :D you're magical!
Anyone else think about the magic school bus when Matpat mentioned our skin turning orange
Everyone loves how MatPat hypes you up into believing that the theory could be true, then shoots your hopes and dreams down at the very end explaining all the health risks.
12:42 It also has an unfortunate beginning to its name.
OMG! I haven't thought about Powerthirst for like, an actual decade. That was the best call back to an OG TH-cam meme. Good job editors!
You said the word "science" so often I'm surprised you didn't summon Austin. Speaking of which is there ever going to be an episode of THE SCIENCE that is on either Film or Food Theory?
Love this channel man, thanks for the quality content
6:29 Good news for us today. Thank you for your sacrafice
Matt is like a the mad scientist of EVERYTHING.

@FoodTheory
idea what crops could you grow underground like in Minecraft
i own/ operate a drycleaning plant, which means im constantly on the move and sweating alot... alot. i use powdered gatorade regularly, and it helps me keep my oldy joints from cramping. the powdered form seems to be better then the bottles.
okay okay okay matpat gets a clap and a half for starting the episode with POWERTHIRST!! one of my personal favourite videos by the way
Channel ideas
:Toy theory
:Book theory
:Space theory(of course)
and that's it....
FOR NOWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12:06 me telling my brother not to eat pink sauce
1:35 I THOUGHT THAT WAS STEPHANIE 😂
I AM SO GLAD to know matpat knows about power thirst XD LOL YASSSS!!!!
Cause that is what i was thinking about when i read the thumbnail
and it made me even happier to hear him quote some of it lol
Fun fact, I have a friend who was born withou sweat glands besides a few on her palms, she used to play sports year round but now she can only play inside sports and in the winter
Even if gatorade makes my sweat different, I will keep on drinking it because I LOVE IT
I was not expecting the Powerthirst reference!!! Great video!

Can confirm, as someone who drinks almost exclusively "Cool Blue" Gatorade (Mmm, sugary saline :p) , I've never had me sweat turn blue, but DO regularly have trips to the bathroom where I leave the inside of the bowl painted blue.
Serious props for the Power Thirst reference. One of the best viral videos of the pre-TH-cam era of the internet.
Can you do a theory on how much bird seed can save you from a fall in gravity falls when Stanley is running for mayor he saves dipper and mable then he falls into bird seed
Is that not just a remake of the nugget fall? Like it would essentially be the same thing.
@@TrixyTrixter I think (someone can absolutely correct me) the bird seed would be more displacement than spring force, which would allow for different math
@@eenusmeenus7830 that's what I thought
@@eenusmeenus7830 I do not see that being different enough to warant a full episode.
good idea
0:40 thank you for the Powerthirst nostalgia trip
Alternative idea: douse yourself in a colored liquid while you’re already sweating to make it *look* colored. It may just be a simple magic trick, but at least (depending on what substance you decide to shower yourself in) it isn’t highly dangerous
Thanks MatPat Can you answer the age long saying an apple a day keeps the doctor away? I have always wondered

MatPat: 'I would ask team theorist to play basketball with me' Team Theorist: 'Nonononononono' 'I've got asthma...' 'Mat, I'm very sick right now, I cannot play basketball' *Coughs*
Food Theory idea: is cheese cake a cake or a pie? We call it a cake but it's visually similar to pumpkin pie. How do we classify cakes vs pies?
Crust = pie
No crust = cake
@@Mewtic1 so cheese cake is pie because it has the crust at the bottom
When I was a baby my parents fed me a lot of sweet potatoes from a mashed food jar. My skin tinted orange until I was well into my teens and that's exactly what my doctor said it was!
Im not gonna lie, I though the carotenemia thing was just a funny skit joke until I searched it up, it's real 😭 Awesome video as always! Both informative and funny!
This is cool! In my Health class we just discussed how unhealthy Gatorade is so this is perfect timing
YES! I knew that drinking six bottles of Gatorade in one day would lead matpat to make a video about it

Is it just me or is the editing on this video unusually good?
YOOOOO!!! The carrot thing happened to me when I was a kid. I have eczema and dehydrated and my mom read somewhere that carrot makes skin smoother. She'd grind carrots into an awful drink and made me drink that for a long time and that's what made my skin turn orange haha.
Garlic gives you stinky sweat and breath. But it keeps mosquitos away! Growing up in a veeeery mosquito heavy area, we ate it a lot. 😅
I have been waiting TOO LONG FOR THIS! THANK YOU!
Keep up the high quality content
3:50 lol
The Powerthirst parody at the beginning. Well played, MatPat.
When I heard coomassie blue, I was like... what the heck, I use this to stain my SDS-PAGE gels in the lab 😂 So in theory than I can just use the dye to stain my gel but also to obtain blue sweat. Good to know 😝 I was astonished about the fact, that coomassie blue is used as medical treatment. I did not know that. Thanks for the episode 👍
