HACKED!! Hotel Satellite Receiver Working!

- Guys, I got the Bell Hotel Satellite Receiver working! I took the advice that someone posted to leave it connected to the satellite and powered on for a month and that this will update the access card. Sure enough after 23 days the receiver, to my surprise, stared working! It's fully restored and receiving multiple channels including 4 premium movie channels. I also attempted to buy a Venus PPV and that actually worked too for FREE! The Girls from Venus have arrived !

If these receivers are anything like the older ones in the UK/Europe, they don't always dial back to base for PPV.
The Smart Card has a "credit limit" on it before it has to phone home, this reigns true for Sat and Cable, but it's easier to jack on Satellite.
As long as the receiver thinks it's connected to a phone line, it will allow purchase, but if you're close to/that purchase would take you over the limit, or it's been too long since it's phoned base, the card will lock credit and require phoning home.
Still works to this day on anything but the very latest sat receivers, you can jam a 9V battery on the end of a phone line and it'll register as a valid line to the box, box will try dialing out, fail, then let you in as long as you have credit so as not to inconvenience you when you're trying to watch a time restricted event.
you can just get into the engineer menu on many boxes with a key combo and access the "dial X" for outside like menu and then add something there so it fails to dial. This may or may not have been common on UK Military bases and the soldiers may or may not have been buying second hand boxes and maxing the credit before dumping them.
So in theory, if it's possible to access the card and refill "credit" on the card ? ? ? 🙂
@@robina.jensen6114 The cards are encrypted.
@@robina.jensen6114"in theory" almost everything is possible.
Just letting you guys know - the PAW- print and the -PIRATE SHIP- were on dishnet receiver motherboards - when I used to "mod" those in the 90's
Then you must remember Charlie. He's not doing that great these days! advanced-television.com/2023/11/24/analyst-dish-bankruptcy-overwhelmingly-probable/
The receiver likely already has full authorized access and the call it makes is to the lobby to charge the specific room which is why there was no dial tone but it still went through as a purchase.
If this is the case, eventually, the receiver memory will fill up and no longer be able to do it because it hasn't called home to dump the charges. Kinda like how those "free" cable ppv blockers would block the telephone line and would just store the charges in memory until there was no room and the only way to clear it was it calling home and charging you.
I wonder if it's to scare kids away, since that specific channel was NSFW
@@Blu3ManiColder directv receivers with cards were like that. Without a connection they would allow ppv purchases up to a certain point. Then it needed to like you say dump the charges.
I always thought PPV in hotel rooms was typically handled through a system like Lodgenet or OnCommand which would manage billing and conditional access for the individual rooms instead of through the TV provider directly? Though Lodgenet or whatever could just be a frontend for a cable/satellite PPV billing system. It would be interesting to know more about how exactly this worked from someone with firsthand experience with these systems.
These Bell receivers are used to bring the a single channel from the satellite to the hotels own system like Lodgenet or OnCommand.
(2:10) Those PCB design Easter eggs reminded me of those that were present on some pre-merger Compaq PC mainboards, at least as I could see in some TH-cam videos I watched long ago.
(6:05) Yep, and I've seen service providers where I live do similar things.
I'm surprised that you were able to receive those channels, but a theory I made up while watching the video turned out be wrong as the channels were unencrypted as part of Bell's December free previews, in which they likely had more channels than other months as part of free previews for winter holidays, sort of like with pay TV providers where I live who only do similar free previews during certain holidays.
The OTA update to the receiver likely set the internal clock and/or updated some security stuff (sort of like a security update to Windows or another OS), allowing the receiver to decrypt channels in the present day and letterbox widescreen channels to its 4:3 NTSC output.
Oh hey! Glad to see you in my feed again. Can't wait to watch this tmr.
I can't believe the Venus Channel still exists. I remember in the past we used to watch this channel on the Hot Bird satellite...it was a channel for drilling wells. 😂😂😂😂😛😛😛😛
Only in latínamerican
@@joseorellana8738 I know.. but I'm talking when the days of satellite reception were an analogue system
Man, this is so interesting dude. Didn't think it would work after the last video. Very interesting!
Hello Lee, yeah I didn't think it would ever work again too but I got lucky here!
Now that‘s a serious patch panel.. Love it!
There‘s enough „vintage PC“ content but you are scratching that itch I had with satellite TV.
I never had Dial-Up, we went for ISDN straight away. Remember using both lines at night so speed up you know what.
Double speed, but at double the price... I remember that well, my parents maybe (...surely) even better
Pretty amazing find! I love your setup, if you have a wife, she's the best partner in the world! I have to hear crap about my lmr400 running up to the attic (I'm in a townhouse right now so that and my HF ladder line goes up the steps a little of the way (well, a lot of the way) before it gets up to my attic) anyway, lucky man!!
great videos man! i loved learning about all the things you were doing with that spectrum analyzer and flipper zero. cool stuff!
Drop your socks and pull up your remotes - sorry, used to have a motorised dish in the 90s, TV1000, D2MAC, hotbird, etc, etc
Great video.I wish I had a knowledgeable friend like you around me.
I recall someone I knew who had a "special box" once. They got channels for free too. However the manufacture of the cable box and the cable provider frowned upon all those free channels. Bricked it. My advice to him was a $1.00 liter of Sprite, a smoke test and the box got returned, fried of course. Dang kids.. oops.
I think with those systems it would keep track on the card your purchases and then mass report them. It didn’t dial per purchase. Was that way with directv. After a while it won’t let you purchase anymore until it phones home.
I am happy that you managed to hack the sattelite receiver!
Thanks, so was I. In my previous video about this same receiver I didn't have as much luck as you can see here: th-cam.com/video/jBf3dZUAImk/w-d-xo.html
@@peterfairlie2296 I saw that video in that day you posted it.
@@peterfairlie2296wow amazing that got reciver to work 😊😊I though these are dead and outdated .how did get it to work .
Those cards have an automatic 250 dollar credit then it's full - go ahead and jtag it then show us all - once you do that you won't need a card
This is a great satellite experiment :) ! i love your channel! Stay curious :)
Thank you! Cheers!
The guy says he needs to be careful what he shows in case some channels has some "nudity" but he orders Venus on purpose 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It was the only PPV channel I could order. I kept it SFW and YT. It got seriously HC a minute later.
Hi! I love your videos peter!
Hey, thanks!
I saw a board once that labeled the ICs with letters. And there was an ICu with an eyeball symbol!
lol have a old box that will still work with a 555 chip dial tone generator , most of the old boxes just looked for a tone then downloaded your purchase late at nite ;) never played with BEV back in the day might get back into it someday still have a box full of unloopers and such ....lol
What was the show with the 2 asian girls? Asking for a friend...

Very nice and ya, can always listen to Rush!
Rock on!
Enjoyed your video thxs On the setup menu on the bell reciver can you see the smart card info & see any dates on the smart card. Cheers.
Check out my previous video I did on this same receiver. I check out the service menu: th-cam.com/video/jBf3dZUAImk/w-d-xo.html
Come for the hacks! Stay for the porn! 😆
I'm happy my suggestion worked.
Thanks for the idea!
Does this mean someone is being billed for Venus to their room at that hotel where box is register too and on their credit card, for partner to see later and instigate divorce proceedings?😂
Awesome!!! Made me think about my old black box. 😂
So that won't work on my old 2700 receiver? Just hotels/bars ones? I still have a 3100 as well. Always wondering if anything new came up. Miss the days of CEMU and cards hooked up to my computer autorolling keys.
Can you get The Weather Channel or any other weather channel though?
I'm very new to this tech (I've never played with satellite anything). Is this any different than something like the Geosat DSR200c picking up the OTA channels? I'm assuming the movie channels are the difference; forgive me if your previous videos cover this.
To play around with this stuff you'll need a deactivated receiver from a provider and and matching access card.
Have you tried to pull these channels in with a standard FTA IRD? If they're in "preview" period, perhaps they're being sent in the clear? That would not really explain the Venus PPV situation though.
I have FTA boxes that if it's in the clear doesn't matter the encryption it'll come in.
There's actually a pay TV channel out there right now that's been in the clear for the last year. And I know this for a fact cuz I have boxes that were never designed to be connected to the internet so they cannot automatically get keys
I'm curious for how long the receiver will be allowed to do this ? If it is can receive updates then it might also get a security update with a restriction patch? Please do an update on how long this is possible! Thanks
It should keep going as long as you keep it connected to power and the satellite.
It's because the signals are meant for one-way communication. And like I said if that box belongs to another hotel chain then as long as their boxes are on that box will stay on.
And how boxes are able to do the upgrade when it gets an updated Patch key. Is because the previous key still decrypts the signal in order for it to get the new key.
Any advice or direction for someone to start this hobby here in the lower 48 states? IE. DN, or TTV?
AWESOME!!!!!
Thanks!!
@@peterfairlie2296 You're welcome, Merry Christmas!
Doesn't look custom here, same silkscreen, revisions, and the bodged in the leds. The modulator probably just didn't fit in the 1U rack.
14:21 ima have to borrow that for a day 😂😂😂 nah but nice video
nice but how to hold one in Europe?
Hi Peter can you make more video like these including IPTV if possible
how is that even possbile how did get that wotk please explain .
The KaZaA was under fire in that time frame, I think that`s why there maybe a pirate ship in there.
I think it has something more to do with the FCC.
Bro it’s Lester from gta in real life
i was wondering if you can recieve channels from asian countries such as the Philippines i would like to know
would be interesting to findout why it works.
I'll tell you how it works and it's because most likely this is a big hotel chain so they'll be multiple..
The hotel is charged for a service based on how many hotels they have and that's why you have a card that was still active because obviously if you go find hotel it was from and go to another one..
So as long as that hotel keeps using those systems.
But the minute the hotel gets completely off of using that system that card will not work anymore.
His wife/gf nust love all these wires 😂😂😂
Those actresses look very familiar😂😂

Just so you know "Venus is a television channel by Argentine pornographic subscription launched on the air for the first time in Argentina in December of 1993 and in Brazil in 1995 ."
Venus👍
what is model number of the receiver?
It's a Blonder Tongue CDSR-6198 Commercial Digital Satellite Receiver
@@peterfairlie2296 How did you obtained this receiver? Did you get it on eBay or something like that? If yes, what are the probabilities that someone else might purchase another unit and have the same luck as you? (having a card that is somehow still active? and being able to get almost all the channels) or is this something that is pretty much guaranteed to always work at least for the particular provider provided that the user leaves the receiver on for up to a month?
0:17 I Would Love To Know The Name Of This Program!
Someone said the girls name is Lulu Chui.... look her up.
Homework Hoes starring Lulu Chu and MacKenzie Mace
It says Venus Pre-view !!!. It was showing thh exact same shot earlier in your video, without phone hook-up.
The Venus channel is not safe for work channel.
Funny how even the most innocent scenes from porn are instantly recognizable as such.
I don't get satellite "security" at all. I'd have expected the dial-up connection to exchange keys, but apparently the card has the necessary keys all along?
i think an odd channel like that maybe it was vinus came on accidentally when i visited canada and it was near the cartoon channels it scared me a lot tbh
canada tv i thought was very odd
was.... was that Lulu Chu? lol
Yes, she seems to be a very popular girl on campus.
who are those two girls?
Someone posted that one of them is Lulu Chu.

Can anyone identify the Venus title that was playing? Just for documentation purposes.
No idea, however someone posted the Asian girls name is Lulu Chui

this guy probably has enough subscribers where he could afford TV and not get it off of old receivers.
But it's more fun this way!
If you have a Digital receiver but aren't paying for the service for it and you plug it into Say An outdoor antenna Via coaxial Would you be able to pick up channels that way??
Sorry if it's a dumb question 😂
That won't do anything.
If it's a digital satellite receiver it needs to be connected to the satellite dish for that service. In my case it's the Canadian Bell ExpressVU.
You will need a compatible LNB/dish and receiver tuned in to the right bird. All the geosynchronous satellites are directly above the equator about 22,500 miles up in the Clark Belt. If you're on the right side of the planet and have the gear. The receiver powers the LNB and they won't do much of anything without a powered meter, multiswitch, or receiver to power it up. Its all encrypted and no way to watch it without a receiver. There are "hacked" cards out there or at least there were when I was a tech 10 years back. The cards will unlock everything, some guys charge a monthly fee and any time your card gets "zapped" they bring you out a new one. Others just sell you a card and you buy a new one as needed.
Without Adult Content 😡😡😡😡 plz. 😇😇😇😇
I really want to see the rest of that educational scene
