Technically it's a reaction that falls under article 51 of the UN Charter, making it an incursion since Israel's stated aim is to stop Hezbollah firing rockets at Israeli civilians and is not for land or territorial aggrandizement. Israel breached into Lebanon and upon the signing of the Armistice agreements Israel became the only country to withdraw to it's internationally recognized borders. Egypt, Jordan, and Syria all refused to do so (Iraq was there as well but just turned its positions over to Jordan and never signed an Armistice agreement). Then in the 80's during the Lebanese civil war Israel went in again because the PLO was launching rockets and attacks against Israeli civilians in the North. Israeli went in and largely neutralized them, then pulled back to a buffer area waiting for a peace agreement to be signed. End of the 20th century it was clear that no such agreement was coming, so Israel withdrew back to their borders in 2000, which was certified as complete by the UN. In 2006 Hezbollah launches rockets into Israel and a cross border raid to kidnap Israeli soldiers. Israel retaliates by crossing the border on an ill advised search and destroy mission into Lebanon - Israel actually had a plan for what to do if they needed to do such an mission, but the general in charge at the time tried to model things based on lessons he thought he'd learned from how the US operated in Afghanistan and parts of Iraq, which was idiotic and he was later fired. Eventually an agreement was reached where Hezbollah would stop with the Rockets, return the bodies of the soldiers they kidnapped, and Israel released some terrorist who were in jail. Israel withdrew to its border again, and again certified by the UN. And now here we go yet again. You can go on the offensive rhyme acting defensively. That's very much a thing. So what you're trying to imply isn't what actually is. Oh, and that Lebanon is a sovereign state is neither here nor there. Hezbollah is part of the government, and a government is required to have control over their territory - it's literally one of the requirements to meet the definition of being a state. You're responsible for when you allow terrorists to operate within your borders and use your country as a launchpad. Plus, again, these guys are in the government. lol miss me with all that noise. I was born in Canada, I pay my taxes, I bought land here. I have nowhere to go. Don't give a damn what happened over a century ago. My family immigrated here and we set up shop long after those people were on reserves and such.
