right on, man! excellent synopsis of the book! let me add my two cents and mention some of the books i've read in the last month to gain an understanding of the situation in palestine. i'll be brief and concise: 1 - the hundred years war on palestine (2020) rashid khalidi 2 - hamas contained (2018) tareq baconi 3 - ten myths about israel 4 - palestine: a four thousand year history (2018) nur masalha 5 - a threshold crossed (2021) from human rights watch 6 - the invention of the land of israel (2014) shlomo sand right now i'm reading orientalism (1978) edward said, and the biggest prison on earth (2017) ilan pappe additionally, democracy now and al jazeera are the best sources for current information on the war on gaza and palestinians some noteworthy movies/videos are: 1 - amreeka (2009) 2 - Al Nakba: The Palestinian catastrophe (2008) 3 - the present (2020) 4 - tears of gaza (2010) 5 - the great book robbery (2012) 6 - i am from palestine (2023) 7 - The Shadow of the West a film by Edward Said (1983) and i would strongly recommend Cornel West and Gabor Maté on Gaza and the Human Soul, from a couple weeks back on youtube. (also, i'm learning arabic. right now, i'm progressing from having mastered Al-abjadiyah to being excited when i recognize words that i hear spoken or see written. oh...and i love my keffiyeh, which is palestinian made, that arrived from jordan last week!)
Thank you so much for such a detailed list of books/movies/sources. Pinning the comment so that others can benefit from it too. Good luck on your Arabic learning journey. It's a beautiful language.
Thanks so much for this review. I live in Australia and was raised Catholic. I had a heated discussion over Palestine with my elderly parents last week. Unfortunately they are victims of western propaganda and post holocaust guilt. I, on the other hand, are firmly on the side of the Palestinians, which now they presume I am some far left activist or I fell victim to some Q-anon type conspiracy. I have been searching for the right book for them which may actually make them aware that what they have been taught, is BS. I think this is the right start. Do you think this would be a good start for them or should I start with something a little more gentle? Thanks for such a great vevue! So professional. Will definitely subscribe and look fwd to listening to your other content.
Hi! I think this book will be great for your parents. It is gentle and quite straightforward. The facts and figures are written in a way that it doesn't feel overwhelming. Another great book on the issue is 'The Hundred Years' of War on Palestine' by Rashid Khalidi.
I'm in the middle of reading this book after seeing interviews with Ilan Pappe - he's a very good writer and speaker. I definitely recommend looking at those interviews.
One thing to consider here is that many will likely take this video out of context and include all Palestinian Arabs in the “indigenous Palestinian” population or say that _only_ Arabs are indigenous to the land, therefore, Israel is an illegitimate state that should not exist. No offense, but I think a little bit of additional context and history for your target audience may be necessary if we don’t want similar misconceptions parroted across social media. I know I’m not the one to say this is strictly necessary, but for the type of audience that’s going to see this, it may be at least nice to clarify this.

Ilan Pappe is a clown
Is he a clown who is correct or a clown who is incorrect, and what's your proof?
