  • @AugustDwight
    @AugustDwight ปีที่แล้ว +6

    7:28 Great effort, but that shouldn't have been a score -- time expires before #2 gets the disc, so that's a clear catch and throw after the half has ended. Edit -- 11:25 too. Is the clock on the field not sync'd with the clock we see in the replay, is the horn just late, or are Ultimate players just so chill they say "eh, close enough"

    • @nickycharles9699
      @nickycharles9699 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t read the rules in years, and never read AUDL rules specifically, but I assume it’s valid because he didn’t touch ground and therefore wasn’t a completed pass?

    • @AugustDwight
      @AugustDwight ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@nickycharles9699 You got me curious, so I looked it up. TL;DR -- no score because the disc was caught outside the end zone after time expired.
      Here's the rule for time expiring:
      "5.2.5 If the clock shows 00:00.0 and the disc is in the air, the play shall continue until
      the result of the throw is determined. No subsequent throw shall be permitted,
      regardless of the existence of a pivot foot. The period or game will end when the disc
      touches the ground or is caught."
      So, what's a catch? I couldn't find an explicit definition, but here's what the rules say about scoring:
      "12.1.2 If the player’s first point of ground contact after the catch is completely in the
      end zone and not on the goal line or perimeter, then it is a goal"
      This rule says that landing can happen after a catch, implying that a catch occurs as soon as a player has possession ("control of a non-rotating disc"). So in this case, the period should have ended before #2 threw the disc.

    • @onlinetuna
      @onlinetuna ปีที่แล้ว

      Would've been a tough play but if #12 did a jumping catch into the end zone would that be a goal? Seems more straight forward than what he chose to do

      It's a bit tricky, I don't know a lot about the rules for contact in the AUDL but it seems like there's a much more agreed level of contact than at a club level. At club absolutely a foul, I'd go as far to say dangerous play because the red player is jumping into the light players line/back with momentum.
      For the AUDL, not entirely sure how it's ruled but the red player was up so much earlier and got the disc, so it might not have affected the result of the play. But yeah, tricky situation
