Since he was released from custody in November 2021, Cambodian environmental activist Ly Chandaravuth has been looking over his shoulder. The 24-year-old was arrested in 2021 after documenting waste run-off from the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh into the Tonle Sap river. A member of the civil society group, Mother Nature Cambodia, he spent five months in pre-trial detention on “plotting” charges before the court released him on bail. Authorities have so far jailed at least 11 Mother Nature activists and arrested dozens more, while the group’s founder has been deported. Now facing a possible prison sentence, will Ly Chandaravuth be forced to abandon his activism?

I bought a ticket to Cambodia just yesterday and today I see this news. 5 years ago I came to Cambodia as a backpacker with my little daughter. My daughter got very sick and Cambodian doctors at a public hospital cured her. We were caught in a storm and the Cambodian people gave us a roof. I hope the best for your country. There are those who are funded by foreign NGOs which are linked to the CIA and its branches. They would pretend to care about the environment, they fight against economic prosperity and human development in favor of jungles. And when they are arrested for disruption and sabotage, they would cry foul, they would cry human right.
Do they actually care about the planet? No, if they do, they would have focused their attention on the first world polluters.

Im Khmericain please stop the destruction of our natural resources and our lands . Cambodia was once a golden Empire . That expanded to half part of South East Asia including the lower Basin of Burma , Cambodia full of natural resources, minerals, beautiful landscapes , fresh water , seafood, riches histories and riches cultures , beautiful weather , tropical islands its a must and urgent to preserve our wild life habitat they are in extinctions.
