    My sincere respect to Lemond, a true and clean champion.
    You belong to the pantheon of clean Grand Tour winners beyond reasonable doubt:
    - Greg Lemond: Tour 86, 89, 90; World Champ 83, 89.
    - Luis Herrera: Vuelta 87; KOM Tour 85, 87; Vuelta 87, 91; Giro 89.
    - Andy Hampsten: Giro 89; Tour de Suisse 86, 87.
    - Cadel Evans: Tour 2011; World Champ 2009; Flèche Wallonne 2010.
    - Nairo Quintana: Giro 2014...
    Astana's Nibali & Aru: Vinokurov and Martinelli are professional cheaters and they encourage doping.
    Froome: a nobody at 26 y.o. but suddenly at 27 the king of the Tour, same like Armstrong.
    Contador: come on guys, are you still naive?

      Justin B. That's an offensive question... And an insulting one.... Greg LeMond is an American hero and the walking talking definition of someone who never cheated..... But because of the 1990s and 2000s it must be asked

      Justin B. No... Not only that but I'm also saying who cares.... They run the equivalent of a marathon every day for 21 straight days- ACTUAL DOPING is a gdamn team doctor and team manager making sure every rider on a team gets hooked up to bags 5 times during a race and is on a year round supply of patches and pills while not 'actually' caring about their health but only caring about their results.... If Jaqcues Anquetil or Bernard Thevenet wanted to pop a few painkillers or amphetamine tablets during a damn mountain stage on their own initiative who cares.... They're riding 200km every day that isn't doping.... That's pain relief while doing a task that a human body shouldn't even be called upon to do.... There was no doping prior to the EPO era.... At least not in the sense of creating superhuman monsters like Armstrong, Riis, Pantani and anyone else with a haematocrit over 60 for 20 straight days

      @@pagejustin5572 so "doping" is not clear cut. I take a pre workout that has a shit ton of citrulline. Is that doping? Just because it goes in your body with a needle it's doping? The fact that some teams had a program to me says they had more money. Blame the UCI for "doping" not me or lance. There was tons of doping pre EPO. Now I know you're not even educated on the subject. Wikipedia list of doping cases in cycling. Also look up sporting intelligence dot com cycling in the EPO era. Then come back to me.

    It's not entirely tue. It seems to have been difficult for the LeMonds to adapt to Europe for many reasons, you're right. But being an outsider also gave Greg all the latitude to put things in perspective and develop a strong independance. You should also know that Greg and Kathy express a lot of nostalgia regarding that period when they lived in Europe and made a lot of friends over there. As to Greg not "killing it" I'd say 3 Tours and 2 Worlds aren't that bad ;-)

      Well he finished 3rd in 84 could have won in 85, did in 86, 89 & 90 would have won gold at the world's in 85 if not for a stunning late attack by Zoetemelk but still finished with 2 silvers to go with 2 golds and obviously got 87&88 right in his prime denied due to injury

    His hunting accident ruined his career. EPO finished him off. Basically, LeMond, regardless whether or not he preferred to race all year round, would win more TdF and probably in more commanding fashion. And, we knew he also competitive in others grand tours and classics (outside World's) so his results would be better if not for hunting accident. And lastly, EPO not that bad in early 90s, and it's still possible to be competitive. It's mid 90s onward until Festina cooled it down and Biological Passport curve the EPO use

    I believe Greg was uncomfortable in Europe. If he had been relaxed with the European culture, I am sure that he would have won classics, and monuments. I knoe he loves his American wife, but if Greg had married into a European family, particularly if he had married into a cycling family, like Merckx, his European cycling career would have blossomed and dominated (in the Eddy Merckx tradition, the Coppi, Anquentiel dominance.)
    Unfortunate, for as great as Greg was as a junior, in the USA, he did not kill it in Europe. He must not have felt comfortable with his teams, the sponsors and the food.

    • @WalrusRiderEntertainment

      All things considered I think he did pretty well in Europe. After his hunting accident he was never the same but the same could be said of Merckx after his crashed on the track and he says he was always in pain not he bike after that with a twisted pelvis.

      He didn’t target them. It had zip to do with “comfort.” He followed the $$ and that was a Summer peak with good Fall form as well.

      I can't believe the ramble I just read. His comfort levels with European culture would have enabled LeMond, a man with a 92.5 VO2 max to win classics, and that he should have married into a European family? I had no idea that outcomes of athletic events were decided by bloodlines and marriages of convenience in Europe. Wow.

    My Cycling Hero. Greg is a natural. Now after recent History, how can any athlete maintain the same form throughout a season. merckx must have been one of those freaks of nature like Indurain, Rominger, Theunisse, Jalabert, Riise, oh yeah and Armstrong. Go Figure.

    • @1stPlaceDirector
      @1stPlaceDirector 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +65sparx Remember, Armstrong could not and did not maintain his form throughout the season. He was widely criticized for being a one race specialist for the Tour de France. He probably was afraid to get caught by the anti-doping agency, if he doped all year and crossed so many borders with the dope. Armstrong, doesn't deserve to be included with the greats of cycling. It wasn't a level playing field, by any means, because EPO affected him, in a positive way, much more than the others. He even admitted that he couldn't have won without doping.

    • @sparx550
      @sparx550 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My friend point taken and agreed. I was being cynical about some of those names i originally mentioned, Armstrong was and is just a bully who got caught. It breaks my heart that a lot of my cycling heroes are now tarnished. I believe Lemond was a clean rider.

      Justin B. No.... No you're wrong.... But everyone is entitled to an opinion and no rider is beyond questioning.... Not even Miguel Indurain who never failed a drug test yet dominated the early EPO era.... And while you certainly can question LeMond you would be wrong.... Afterall he is the rider who said that something suddenly changed in 1991 and he was suddenly having a hard time in even keeping up with the peloton.... Which is a strange thing for the two time defending champ to say
