I am an English speaker learning Spanish and was so encouraged by your video. I'm 48 and decided last year that i was finally going to become fluent. I've been working so hard and at times feel like I'm finally getting it, holding a conversation with an hispanohablante. Then other times i will hear someone speaking Spanish and i wont be able to understand any of it! Not a single word! So discouraging. But I just keep going, slow and steady. Gracias por los consejos y el aliento!
Hey, thanks for the message and glad you found the video encouraging. What you experience is normal, I felt the same way, like I will never get over that hump or plateau, it just takes time and persistence. Just keep listening and practicing and speaking and you will get there. There is no magic bullet and don't listen to people saying they learned in 3-6 months, that is not realistic to me. I still can't understand everybody and sometimes they just speak too fast and not clearly, but I am finding I can understand more and more and am not translating that much anymore in my head as I used to. Just have fun and enjoy the journey.
Hi Gary, I knew you were learning Spanish but didnt know you had this channel, until today! Loved hearing your story. I am still working on my Egyptian Arabic and I agree with your points speaking and listening are very important to begin right away in the process.
@@learneverydayenglishIts coming along. I am disciplined; I work on it everyday focusing on listening and speaking. I feel that as long as I understand and speak more as time passes I must be advancing. I definitely will pass on your msg to Blue.
Hi Gary, as a fellow 62-year-old interested in learning Spanish, your video immediately captured my attention. I enjoyed both the content and your personal story. Like you, I've wasted a lot of time in ineffective classes and with other learning materials. However, I agree that having a solid plan and dedication are crucial for achieving results. In fact, I've just realized that lacking a plan and prematurely giving up are the main reasons I've struggled to reach my language goals in the past. Thank you for reinforcing these key principles - it's a valuable reminder .
Hello and thanks for the message. Glad to hear that the video was helpful. Yes, many people start off strong but fade and eventually give up for lack of a plan or unrealistic expectations. You can do it, age is just a number. Best of luck to you and take care!
I live in a Spanish neighborhood in midtown Miami.I try to listen to podcasts Spanish three hours a day sometimes four hours.I like Miami and half the jobs down here require bilingual.I read in military schools requiring new language ability that 600 to 800 hours is good to become fluent that means speaking, reading and writing. I have a Colombian girlfriend and can converse in situational Spanish for 20 minutes with her. I will not give up.LoL
Thanks for the message. Sounds like you are doing it right and are committed! That is a huge benefit that you have a Colombian girlfriend AND that you can practice speaking with her, take advantage of that, you will improve much faster. Please, don't give up, si se puede as they say!
Mil Gracias, Maestro.🌹☀️✨🌟 INSPIRING!!! Senior Señora from Oakland, living in Germany. Already learned German after 47. Thank you for a realistic view for my Spanish-learning journey at age 65+. Buena suerte en todo. Viel Glueck in Alles, mein Herrn.🌟🌹🌟
Thanks for the message and glad you liked the video and found it inspiring! I see you know what it is like having learned a new language after 47, cool! Glad to hear you are learning Spanish, "Si Se Puede" as the expression goes, You Can Do It! Buena suerte a ti tabien! Saludos!
Yes, we are learning via the internet and that isn't a very bad way if you can't live in a foreign country, lol! Yes, I would like to chat and share stories and experiences. I started writing in English as I couldn't get the Spanish accents to work correctly while writing this and I am in a hurry to go somewhere. If you have WhatsApp my number is 1+832-570-2806. Best of luck and take care.
It´s amazing that you are learning my language. I'm a Panamanian trying to improve my English, so i really understand how challenging and enjoyable this process is. I know you´ll achieve it. Best regards!!!
@ Hola, thanks for the message and it looks like your English is very good, just keep doing what you are doing! You’ll achieve it as well. Sí se puede! Saludos amigo!
Thankyou Gary, I am 35 years old and many people has told me that could have been better if I was started to learn english younger. I am trying to don't put atention in this kind of things. Listening to you has been extremly helpfully and inspired for me. Thankyou again.
I wish you didn’t want to start learning polish which would be totally useless for you 😅 I”m happy to be with you in our Spanish group. Saludos. Nos vemos el martes que viene. ❤
Hola Dorota, gracias por el mensaje y me alegro de que hayas disfrutado de mi historia. I'm with you on the Polish language, perhaps if I lived there, lol! I am happy as well to be a part of the Spanish group along with you. A big HOWDY from Texas and see you on Tuesday!
Interesting and valuable story of language learning. Thanks. I'm glad you find time to create materials for me too. Unfortunately, I only use free methods. But for a motivated person, this is not a problem. There are many ways. Best regards
Thanks for the message and glad you liked the video and my story. There is nothing wrong with free methods, find what works for you and keep at it. Regards to you!
Don’t make fluency your goal. Start like a baby and learn words and commands, like eat and I am hungry. Then like a school kid, next like a smart kid. Next learn to express your feelings like a young adult. Fluency is an illusion since most of us still don’t know every word or grammar rule but we speak well enough to express ourselves.
Well she is not Spanish (ie., from Spain), she was born here and has lived her whole life in the USA and is Mexican American. She is busy with work and other stuff so it is easier to just speak in English. She helps me if I have questions though, so I'll take it.
Sir you made a video about speaking Spanish and as far as I can tell you did not say anything in Spanish. I will just let that sit with you for a while.
Well, as far as I can tell you didn't read any of the info in the description section below the video. I put links to a podcast AND a video where I did interviews totally in Spanish. This channel is for people learning English so I didn't want to spend time speaking Spanish as many won't understand it and lose interest. I will just let that sit with you for a while.
Thank you sir! Bravo to you and thank you for paying it forward. I started to learn Spanish at age 57 and after 500 days I have faith that I will become more fluent. Listening to Spanish over and over again and starting to read a lot have been where I have made the most improvement. Also, I have used Baselang for two months, dreaming in Spanish, and duolingo (no haters please- I do like it). Learning a language is fun, but as you state, one must make it fun by selecting the right material. I am interested in helping Spanish speakers speak English after seeing my brother-in-law come to America and struggle since he did not know anything. I am still years away from retirement but I hope to teach part time after I retire. Good luck with your journey!
@ Hi Kevin, thanks for the message and glad you too are learning Spanish at an “older” ago. You are well on your way and it looks like you have a very good plan in place, just keep it up and have fun. I’m also glad to see you want to help Spanish speakers learn English, that is great! Best of luck to you and let me know how things are going for you in the future. Take care!
What’s wrong? Cat got ya’ tongue?!? You figured you were gonna say something worth noting but ended up making a COMPETE and TOTAL ASS out of yourself!!😂 What a 🤡!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I started learning spanish at age 67 and my goal is to be fluent by 70. I love the language and the culture. Thank you for your encouragement.
Hello and thanks for the message. Good for you, we are never to old to start learning. That is a good goal you have, you can do it. Glad to help!
Are you serious? I am impressed$ and love that!
