Not in a creepy way but I think about Paul and how he learned Spanish pretty regularly. It's the fact that the bosses weren't leaning on him to learn. He learned so that he could communicate with the people. but to understand them. Not to sell them anything or get anything. Not to start a channel. Not to make money. Not to benefit himself. It is such a wholesome reason and it gives me a lot of hope for some reason. Lol I think about it all thru my week when I'm trying to communicate (not very well lol) with people at my job. I'm like if he did it, so can I. And it also gives me a little bit of hope for humanity. Things are very divided (seemingly) and if someone can use his time and energy to learn a language to understand people, then that's heading in the right direction. And there's more than just him. It gives me so much hope.
QrooSpanish, Paul, was actually the man who led me to you, Alejandro. We met because of him, and I remain grateful. I have to laugh now, and I hope Paul feels the same, that passion is fire and, it can make a well-meaning person over-zealous. I believe I was, and I apologize. A sincere, deep love of something can be intense to control. There are two camps on TH-cam, dare I say the bullsht camp, ¨Learn Spanish in six weeks¨, ¨the polyglots¨ and The Truth Reality camp, of which Paul and Alejandro are authors. To this day, after a strong level of fluency, I still hold dear the advice that Paul gave: The first question one need ask themselves when selecting to learn Spanish is...which Spanish?. That’s still genius. That can save two years of issues. I love genius. The second aspect of the Truth camp is the nonchalant (French) way you both present Spanish, kindly but without apology. So much crazy out there! You both navigate it that like Padres.
Great interview, Alejandro. I agree with Paul that learning grammar is important for two reasons. First, it gives you the "blueprint" as he said. Like any language, there are concepts in Spanish that are hard to grasp at first (redundant pronouns is a tough one, for example). Second, when you study grammar you will learn new words and build your vocabulary. Just this morning I was working on some grammar and I realized that I did not know the word "sharp" in Spanish.

With respect to the regional variations, when I first came to Spain it was April 1st and my daughter's birthday is May 1st so I used these dates often and I noticed a few people correcting me to *uno* rather than *primero*. My Colombian friend was very surprised when I told her but I verified it with a friend.
Alejandro buena entrevista! I had to take spanish in college and I feel strongly it builds foundation and structure to understanding the language. The subjunctive should not be taught early because there is a path to learn in sequence. No one is suppose to be able to speak spanish totally after a few semesters of classes, it takes time and patience, paso a paso. The subjunctive can be and is an endless of confusion for some that should not be introduced to early until a strong foundation is learned. Teachers have it hard with students not studying, not picking the language up, coming to class un prepared, etc. Language learning is like math, you fall behind, the lesson cannot wait for you, then you are in trouble. But never should a teacher tell a student he or she does not have the aptitude to learn it. Some students cannot handle the pressure in learning classes. Qroo for whatever reason, like many students, did not have the passion for spanish while taking the class or classes. By being put in a spanish speaking situations on his job, he found that passion and motivation for it. The responsibility of passing a test in a class was not for him. The people that fail learning this language are the ones who does not have the passion for it. If one has the passion, one will succeed in learning spanish and have confidence even when making mistakes here and there. Good stuff! paso a paso!
