I was a banshee guy all through the 90’s and early 2000’s. We use to make fun of the 400ex’s for being so slow. Now I’m a lot older and no longer have a banshee. Looking to get me a 400ex and widen it with better shocks and maybe a few cheap engine mods. Seems plenty fast enough to have fun on
do you ride rocky rough trails much? i got a 400ex and the front suspension is horrible i didnt know if you had any suggestions on which suspension setup maybe i should get or any other upgrades to help with rocky trail riding. thanks
I ride rocky trails alot and I upgraded to stock trx 450r shocks. They help alot but you can take 450 shocks to a builder and have them rebuild them and tune them to you and your riding and they will handle GREAT

I have an oversized oil tank on mine with cooling tubes and it runs super cool! The 400ex is known for running super hot because it's air cooled however if you run an oversized cooler you won't ever get hot!
What year is your 400ex? I have one myself but I don’t really know the year of it, it looks exactly like yours. I bought it from my cousin 2 weeks ago, looking for the year so I can order the nerf race bars

Depends on your riding ability. If you are new to the sport yes it is most likely too much power for now. However, if you did happen to get one and just took your time learning and respected the power you could be safe. However you can grow your abilities on a 250ex or similar quad and then push it to the limits then upgrade to a 400ex later on 👍
Yeah I’ve been riding a 250ex for about 6 months now I took it out just a couple months ago to the mountains and I did pretty good but I’ve just been craving to have more powerful quad and I feel like a 400ex would be great
I havent moved the headlight from the OEM position other than the mounting tabs breaking and me rigging it up with zip ties. However if you mean the neutral and reverse lights then I used a holesaw to make a hole a tad smaller than the light housing then used a dremel to shape it perfectly
Yeah so its different model years. 1999 to 2004 they have what I call frog lights. Then mine which is 2005 to 2007. Then the modern ones that are 2008 to 2014 🤙
I have an 02 400 ex that has been bored 20 over with a web racing cam and HMF slip on exhaust and mine will hit about 75!!! I also went up one tooth on the front sprocket!!!!!

I've gotten my 01 400ex on 20" tires to 68mph. Jetted carb, cdi rev box, full hmf exhaust, and k&n air filter.....I don't remember what tooth front sprocket I had on tho..also you need to rev that thing out it will stay together.
How much do you weigh? Once you gear something as high as 15/36 it can actually slow you down because the quad won't have power to turn the tires at high rpm. I put 22 inch rear tires and I went slower.
@@BrewerOffroad i weigh 130-140 i got 22 infront i got jets full big gun R not sure which hot cam it is I’m also figuring its a stage 1 my dad goes 90 and he weighs 200 so maybe weight makes an amount of difference.

How did you mount the lights to the “hood”
Used a hole saw bit smaller than the light housing and then used a file to fine tune a tight fit
how hot does you this machine run?

My 07 400ex hit 74 and the only thing done to the motor is that it’s bored to a 416

If ur asking are they manual transmissions ....then yes, they all come with a manual transmission. Meaning clutch

I run bigger tires on my 05 400 ex and it’ll hit 75 on a good day
