GREAT video. I just took over QC at my company and we had so many mics out of service because of barrels were off and I guess no one took the time to figure out how to fix them. This was HUGE help thanks!!
Thank you very much for showing how to repair / reset a micrometer. I dropped mine and couldn't get the calibrations back in the original position. I didn't know the procedure on pulling the barrel out procedure. Can't wait to get in my workshop in the morning and cure the problem
Thank you so much! Just bought a used micrometer and its thimble was off by 15 thousandths from the digital reading. It's a digital Mitutoyo and it works the same way on the thimble assembly. I really appreciate the help.
Thanks! I just bought a micrometer and I did not understand that small part of the key, the one you used first, to make the first adjustment. Now I understand it all. Thanks again!
Had an issue with a customer mic. The zero was position 90 degrees down when i checked it. But when i saw how you popped the barrel off, I did the same to the mic I was working on and it reads perfect across the range. Just when you think you know something, you learn something new.
Thanks for sharing this video. I am taking some machining classes right now. Watching this video filled in some gaps I didn't understand when reading how to calibrate a mic.
Thank you for the video! The ratchet on my micrometer doesn’t work properly. If you click it more than one time it moves the thimble too far and gets stuck. How can I do it? Thanks again!
Sounds like the spring for the ratchet is messed up. It may have just disconnected from the slot or if it broke then you can just remove it or replace it.
W⭕W this was very helpful and helped me celebrate my fussy Xmas present mic...it was 3 microns out on the vernier with a very stiff sleeve. The thimble removed easy and I managed a good zero-line-reset. I collect quality mics, have about 15 of em, all B💥NG on accurate to the micron or 10thou.
first step after using test peice is to doble check all faces clean . the check again . I seldom have had to adjust a micrometer despite the fact they are used often and often not treated well

Thank you for this detailed video. The tip to tighten the micrometer in a bench-vice was exactly what I needed to adjust my tool perfectly.
I just inherited a vintage Browne and Sharpe that needs minor adjustments. Your video helped me do so

Amazing camera work bud, totally didn't give me a stroke.
Did you not read the description? This was done 7 years ago with a go pro 🤷♂️

I really appreciate your quick response and the information! Where can I purchase the spring from?
