A tip for the future, and anyone watching. Always have someone pulling on the steering wheel, or whatever item you are trying to pull off, while you hammer on it. This gives the item less wiggle room and space to rebound, and directs all the force in the direction you want, while also compounding the pulling pressure with the banging pressure. It really helps. Same methodology as pulling the T handle on a slide hammer as you use it.

Going back watching your old videos laughing my ass off! Love that you have grown into one of my favorite channels now. Having the GM steering wheel puller makes pulling the C5 steering wheel so much easier 🤣🤣
Pro tip leave the bolt half way on for the steering wheel, sit in the driver seat, lean forward, put your hands behind steering wheel but leave a gap, and in one motion lean back/pull wheel hard. Works every time ;).

Sitting in the drivers seat well give you better leverage when pulling on the wheel. Leaving the bolt half way threaded will stop you from punching yourself in the face

Taylor everyone knows to hit the wheel on both sides and jiggle it side to side to take it off. Love the vids.
For future reference with most steering wheels you can leave the main nut on it and pull it off (It will be tight but it will come off with some force and the point of the nut is so it doesn't come off to fast and hurt you.)

Greetings Taylor......The vette project looks like it will be a blast....just one little point with regards to the steering wheel swap ..after you remove the drivers airbag you need to have a resistor placed in the srs system to compenstate for the voltage that the ECU/BCM send other wose you could throw a srs defect code...shalom

those slots are meant for the kind of steering wheel puller that uses Ts you slide them in, turn sideways and it grabs the wheel from behind and you tq down until it pops off. (granted its a shitty material and you can literally rip it to shreds if you're not careful. I did this to my C5 z06 with a Grip Royal wheel. Black with red stitching and silver ring horn button to match the TWM short shifter/car exterior and black/red interior. I highly recommend the TWM short shifter, it makes the shifts feel good and solid and not like you're trying to row a boat haha.

Tip that worked for me to remove a steering wheel without threaded holes for the puller. Put a pry bar through the wheel from side to side so that it's behind the grip but in front of the center section. Then let the puller push against the pry bar forcing out on the wheel. Be careful not to bend the wheel if you are planning to re-use it, but I know that doesn't apply in this case.

I really like the stock c5 steering wheel and where my left hand placement is when driving it on the street...they fit me like a glove and the frontal view out the windshield is perfect...over the yrs. I have owned 5, c5's...I still have 2 torch red ones, a 99 vert. N 04 z06.

on the hub adapter there is a silver dot that is supposed to go at the top to indicate the top of the hub. then the quick release will mount properly

I would suggest that if you are going to hit the steering wheel off towards yourself, leave the center nut on a couple of threads so it doesn't fly off into your face.. someone probably brought this up in this comment section already, but I didn't take the time to find it.

dot on hub needs to be on top, but first u need to trim the plastic clip where the air bag harness comes out of the clock spring. the square hole on the hub is for the horn button wire comes through the hub and you can also run the airbag wires through it to put a resistor for the air bag light. once u do that hook up the wires to the horn and everything lines up and the horn works.

When i did my NRG wheel on my 240, i grounded my horn out on the back of the short hub. I just made a bracket to keep the wire from moving on me, works great.
Easiest way to get a wheel off is once you have taken the centre nut off, thread it back on a few turns, sit in the drivers seat and give it a few sharp hard pulls. It'll come off and the nut will stop you from smashing your teeth in.
Looking forward to seeing the adaptor to fix your steering wheel. The steering wheel in the white corvette is sick. Matches so well.
I agree! I can't hardly even drive a Miata with a stock steering wheel, cant fit!!
Fun fact that ring isn't needed to turn the turn signals on and off. I have a 1991 Miata and I took off my ring and my turn signals still work fine without it. It's a spring mechanism built further down.

I'm not a Vette guy...but installing that quick release gives it an appealing factor!
tip. if removal of steering and you got no puller. put the nut back on the centre shaft just flushed on and than give it a tap with a hammer on the nut, whilst tugging on the steering wheel and she will pop off! with the nut threaded flush on it wont damage the shaft.

So when I installed my Nardi I used the old mightycarmods trick of just leaving the nut on the last 10 threads or so and then pulling the steering wheel towards me really hard so that way you're not binding against the threads as you pull it off. The nut then keeps it from wacking you in the face when the wheel comes off. Hope this helps in the future!

Same thing happened to me when I put my wheel on my truck, it was a little bit clocked to the right. Took it to get an alignment and now everything's clocked correctly

Best way to get stiff steering wheel off is to hit it back on which loosens it to pull it off

Agreed, I love that that he got it free and Adam has his own wheel... But NRG and GR are both way overpriced, Chinese bulk order garbage. You can pretty easily go find the wheels GR buys for like $15 and then sells for $300.
They're just low quality pieces and personally anything related to steering especially is something you shouldn't use sub par parts on.
NRG's adapters are quick releases are great though, just not the wheels.
just a tip for next time or for everyone ells when your using a steering wheel puller you should use an impact, it works a lot better. sick vids keep it up

Isn't the notch in the hub adapter matching up with the clock spring? Why not just rotate the clock spring so the hub is straight?
For those watching this still - they do make puller kits with pronged bits that fit in those oblong holes - no drilling or f*ckery necessary.

To get a steering wheel off in a pinch. Back the nut off the center bolt. Pull the steering wheel towards you with your knees and tap the nut with a hammer.
Could you just disconnect the steering joint where it meets the rack and turn it a tooth or two to make the wheel straight. Seems like having adapter after adapter after adapter is to many places to fail

what did you do about the DIC warning messages and warning lights? having to hit reset 5 times for SERVICE AIRBAG/abs/tcs/active handling every time you start up would be a mega PITA. I'm guessing the steering position sensor wouldn't be compatable so you would loose traction control ability as well.
Damn, what if we don't want to cut our horn wires? I just doing a straight steering wheel replacement (old ones ratty) and wondering what I'm in for.

I don't think I would ever swap out a OEM airbag if it still works and if I daily the car.
JC_mcsR53 hes making it a drift car...its gonna have a cage and harness" battery relocate is mandatory and jtll probably have a fire extinguisher in it aswell. I think hes good on the airbag lol

There's a few things incorrect in the install. 1) your hub is not clocked correctly. The square hole is on the bottom, it should be at the 9 o clock position or so because it's for the horn wires. 2) The clock spring is there ONLY for the airbag wiring. Not the turn signals or the horn. The turn signals have nothing to do with a clock spring. The mechanism for self-cancelling turn signals are in the column itself. 3) Because you're not running airbags, you can simply move the clock spring to under the column, zip tie it and use a 2ohm resistor to turn off the airbag light. 4) You don't need a hub ADAPTER because this will clock the hub correctly.

I don't own, but frequently use and install NRG products, I feel that both their wheels and hubs are quality. If I wasn't broke I'd run them.
