You have the 90s bridal fashions using material that has that shitty ribbed construction like cheap ribbons alongside something like the Cut N Style dress. Even now you have the recent Fashionista Ken with the purple sweater that feels pretty hefty alongside the career dolls that have everything printed on.

I agree the “higher-end” collector Barbies are terrible value at this point. I prefer the Rewind line (even though they are now $70 in Canada), the Looks line, and some Barbie Extras. Also, I only have Draculaura, but the signature Monster High dolls are pretty good. At least they have some layers of clothing and some accessories.
Pretty sure yenon has seen how MH stans act. No wonder he's so brave in saying that people will buy whatever at whatever price. RH gives so many details on their higher priced dolls, but people are always complaining because it "looks" like a regular doll. While MH gives its skullector pant and shirt sewn together and it's "it's because mh doesn't have a high budget🥺"
Even though G1/2 MH has its issues, it's been so much easier just to buy them instead. I got 3 Frankies and a Slo Mo for less than half the price I'd have to spend on one Creeproduction lmao

I'm of the opinion that the Mattel Disney princess dolls are worse than the Hasbro ones. Not equal in quality. I mean WORSE. People only think its better because the heads are not as big. In every other way they are inferior. Hasbro's molded on top budget dolls may have sucked, but the designers at least tried to make them look unique by given them jewel tops which isn't something that's as easily accomplished on cheap plastic fabric. people have also noted that the articulation on the Hasbro dolls is better than what Mattel is doing. They could move their shoulders and move their heads. The Mattel ones are exactly what you described. And lets not forget that unlike Mattel, Hasbro had a line for the Disney princess dolls where they had layered fashion clothes and a ton of articulation. As far as I'm aware Mattel isn't doing that. The Disney Style series even put the girls in different clothes which fans claim they want but then never like when it happens. I also feel its worth comparing the Hasbro LE Disney Style dolls to the Holiday Barbie. Both of these lines were made out of cheap materials and were subject to cutting corners for cost cutting. They also retailed at the same price Tell me, who do you think looks better. The Elsa holiday doll from last year or the Holiday Barbie. Or how about LE Jasmine with this years Poinsetta Holiday Barbie. This is more of a tangeant but, I've heard people think that the Moana dolls from 2016 that Hasbro put out were awful. Sure the materials weren't on par with Disney Store but the dolls themselves actually came with more articulation than the Disney store Moanas do and even had a bend in the waist. and they were 10 dollars. It was leagues better quality than what Mattel did for Princess and the frog, Tangled, and frozen, and like wise better than what Hasbro later did for Frozen 2 and Raya and even what Jakks pacific did for Encanto. I don't know what people want because even when Hasbro was treating the disney princess brand well people weren't happy.
I recently got the Watermelow Fidgie friends, and I love her. I usually don't care for mermaid dolls, but I utilize fidget toys to focus and just had to have one. My only complaint is she could have been a little better quality, but for $20 I think she was well worth it. She's the first flip sequin thing I've ever had and I love that feature about her. Her hair gets messy easily, I thought her bottom fins would have gel or liquid, but it's just hollow clear plastic with glitter inside, which is cute but I think it would have been nice if they made her fins squishy like boba bubbles has. And the one I ordered came with a factory defect where one of her bracelets is misshapen, but being that this isn't a huge company making them, little things like that happen sometimes. All that said, I actually want to get the other dolls as well, and they said they were going to make a more diverse crew for the next wave, so I'm hoping things go well and we get to see those.
Me too, but with Swedish or German Amazon. Europe never get those kind of deals. We are lucky if a RH/SH doll gets below €20. But usually they are €30 and up. The SH twins are like €85+. The cheapest ones are usually the cheer and junior high ones. I can't help but chuckel when Americans complain that the dolls are expensive at $35, as that's pretty much the price Europeans have been forced to pay for years. Only sad thing is that when US prices on dolls goes up, so does the European prices too.

I really enjoy how REAL this video is. I joined the doll community years ago but I am definitely not a fan of how consumption is glorified in it, very similar to the fashion community. Some of the biggest doll community youtubers will constantly and justifiably talk smack on scalpers and encourage people not to get them, but then inevitably turn around and buy from scalpers. And the worst part is, they pay nearly the cost of an electronic device just to be one of the first people to talk about it. It's very competitive and just makes it less fun than when everyone hops on the train in the actual intended release date. It also just sucks because the biggest doll brands like Mattel or MGA are notoriously awful with release dates and actually distributing the dolls. It wasn't like this when I was young, but it seems like the worse capitalism becomes, the less effort companies will be putting because they know that consumers WILL buy it every time.

Wow I’m feeling this video so much… You’re absolutely right about RH. I only buy them when they’re clearanced at $10-12, and I have a pretty decent collection! I got the twins for $19 and Kia for $9.99 at Target. I just got all the series 1 Shadow High dolls I wanted (Luna, Nicole and the boy doll) for between $9.99 and $11.47 each. There’s so many choices on clearance, there’s zero reason to buy them full price. Also agree about the LE Barbies. I haven’t bought a modern LE Barbie to date, only two of the 80’s throwback dolls for half price. At $20 it was okay. I’m currently working on the Hard Rock Cafe gold label collection of the Noughties, they are effing fabulous and the details make me so happy. Mattel just sucks balls right now. And yes the Mark Ryder dolls are way overpriced, it’s too bad.
For $200 I can get an inexpensive Asian Ball Jointed Doll, plus a really nice outfit, direct from the original makers. For $500 I can get a really amazing doll. Or an artist repaint from someone! Got Barbie in 1962. Real zippers, awesome clothes.
I agree w/you thank you for this video. I love every Barbie I purchased [STARTED BUYING/Collecting AGAIN IN THE 90'S] went through some rough financial times in 2008 -2012 crash so sold some on EBAY. During that same time it was hard to sell anything of value as people were losing homes jobs. etc. JUST LIKE NOW we are in a uncertain maybe worse time than a little over 10 yrs ago. I learned a great lesson 10 yrs ago and I suggest if you have stuff you don't love sell it now so you can buy something you really do love later, if you are patient prices will be dropping.

Yes I had to learn the hard way that rainbow high dolls aren't going anywhere. I was desperately on the lookout for Delilah Field when she first came out. I couldn't find her anywhere and I was so sad. Well eventually I came across her while doing some grocery shopping! There was just one. Now I don't like taking them out of the boxes. The packaging is just as fun to me as the doll itself. Ok so this Delilah wasn't perfectly boxed. One of her flower hair bands was tilted. Normally this would have been a complete deal breaker and I would have left it on the shelf, but I was so afraid I would never find one again that I purchased her... Then 3 weeks later there were Delilahs everywhere! Uuuugh ;_; I'm thinking I might just end up taking her out of the box. That tilted flower bothers me.
That $15 doll in 2005? It came here to my country costing idk, R$50. It was already expensive back then. The most expensive barbie I've ever owned was that mermaidia one with huge wings, and back then it costed around R$100. So imagine how expensive dolls are here nowadays!! A basic g3 Draculaura (through resellers, since it hasn't been released here yet) is R$500, it's legit almost HALF THE MINIMUM WAGE!!!
Most of the dolls from Mattel creations are defective. I'm tired of sending dolls back or my messages about poor quality being ignored by customer service. I will buy older barbies (that almost never have issues), dolls from local retail stores that are easy to return (if there is an issue), or dolls from other companies. They need to focus on their quality control as well as the prices.
I ate a lot of shit when I was able to get heavy into collecting because of how bad scalpers get whenever something is off the shelves. Even the Fashionistas skyrocket. But waiting on new things until they hit clearance has definitely been for the best. I'm spending a lot this season but most of it has been stuff that's been in my cart all year and now it's 50% or more off so why not. One thing I really dislike about MGA though is how they handle boy dolls. It's like they're made of gold sometimes. It took months for Finn Rosado to drop below $27 even when the rest of the Pacific Coast line was averaging $12 - $18. Thankfully they do eventually drop but it makes it difficult to feel like you're getting your money's worth sometimes. Beyond that, that bullshit they pull where they only release boys in sets like the OMGs really pisses me off too.

Are you sure about that? From what I have seen Mattel hasn't released their new designs for the Frozen dolls. All that is in stores currently is what Hasbro made back in 2019. Personally I'm afraid to see what Mattel does for Frozen. The dolls they made for the original movie were H I D E O U S. The only person I have ever seen say that Mattel did a better job than hasbro with the budget Frozen dolls is xCanadansis. And frankly she is wrong. Mattel treated Frozen the way Hasbro treated Raya.
Totally agree with Rainbow High dolls just wait. I got all mine at half off or more. I would not pay $60 for The Storm Twins but at under 30 they are great dolls. Same for the tweens I just got two from series 3 for 60% off.

Maybe MGA used underpaid factories in China, when mattel budget goes on better paid employees. I wonder if theres a way to know. Online I saw mattel used to have underpaid employees years ago, but I found nothing as it for now. Because if their budget goes into the employees salary, that woukd explain why they have to cut in the quality. Because if that's the case wr will have to be more cautious, in the sense its easy to spend 50$ for a rainbowhigh doll or what ever, but we have to think of who made it in which condition. I don't collect barbie much so I don't know when the change occurred, But I have noticed that Barbie isn't made in China anymore. They are all made in Indonesia. I think the change happened sometime in the last 10 years and I wonder how much that effects the production of Barbie.

And lets not forget that unlike Mattel, Hasbro had a line for the Disney princess dolls where they had layered fashion clothes and a ton of articulation. As far as I'm aware Mattel isn't doing that. The Disney Style series even put the girls in different clothes which fans claim they want but then never like when it happens.
I also feel its worth comparing the Hasbro LE Disney Style dolls to the Holiday Barbie. Both of these lines were made out of cheap materials and were subject to cutting corners for cost cutting. They also retailed at the same price Tell me, who do you think looks better. The Elsa holiday doll from last year or the Holiday Barbie. Or how about LE Jasmine with this years Poinsetta Holiday Barbie.
This is more of a tangeant but, I've heard people think that the Moana dolls from 2016 that Hasbro put out were awful. Sure the materials weren't on par with Disney Store but the dolls themselves actually came with more articulation than the Disney store Moanas do and even had a bend in the waist. and they were 10 dollars. It was leagues better quality than what Mattel did for Princess and the frog, Tangled, and frozen, and like wise better than what Hasbro later did for Frozen 2 and Raya and even what Jakks pacific did for Encanto. I don't know what people want because even when Hasbro was treating the disney princess brand well people weren't happy.
I recently got the Watermelow Fidgie friends, and I love her. I usually don't care for mermaid dolls, but I utilize fidget toys to focus and just had to have one. My only complaint is she could have been a little better quality, but for $20 I think she was well worth it. She's the first flip sequin thing I've ever had and I love that feature about her. Her hair gets messy easily, I thought her bottom fins would have gel or liquid, but it's just hollow clear plastic with glitter inside, which is cute but I think it would have been nice if they made her fins squishy like boba bubbles has. And the one I ordered came with a factory defect where one of her bracelets is misshapen, but being that this isn't a huge company making them, little things like that happen sometimes. All that said, I actually want to get the other dolls as well, and they said they were going to make a more diverse crew for the next wave, so I'm hoping things go well and we get to see those.

Europe never get those kind of deals. We are lucky if a RH/SH doll gets below €20. But usually they are €30 and up. The SH twins are like €85+. The cheapest ones are usually the cheer and junior high ones.
I can't help but chuckel when Americans complain that the dolls are expensive at $35, as that's pretty much the price Europeans have been forced to pay for years.
Only sad thing is that when US prices on dolls goes up, so does the European prices too.

I really enjoy how REAL this video is. I joined the doll community years ago but I am definitely not a fan of how consumption is glorified in it, very similar to the fashion community. Some of the biggest doll community youtubers will constantly and justifiably talk smack on scalpers and encourage people not to get them, but then inevitably turn around and buy from scalpers. And the worst part is, they pay nearly the cost of an electronic device just to be one of the first people to talk about it. It's very competitive and just makes it less fun than when everyone hops on the train in the actual intended release date. It also just sucks because the biggest doll brands like Mattel or MGA are notoriously awful with release dates and actually distributing the dolls. It wasn't like this when I was young, but it seems like the worse capitalism becomes, the less effort companies will be putting because they know that consumers WILL buy it every time.

Wow I’m feeling this video so much… You’re absolutely right about RH. I only buy them when they’re clearanced at $10-12, and I have a pretty decent collection! I got the twins for $19 and Kia for $9.99 at Target. I just got all the series 1 Shadow High dolls I wanted (Luna, Nicole and the boy doll) for between $9.99 and $11.47 each. There’s so many choices on clearance, there’s zero reason to buy them full price.
Also agree about the LE Barbies. I haven’t bought a modern LE Barbie to date, only two of the 80’s throwback dolls for half price. At $20 it was okay. I’m currently working on the Hard Rock Cafe gold label collection of the Noughties, they are effing fabulous and the details make me so happy. Mattel just sucks balls right now. And yes the Mark Ryder dolls are way overpriced, it’s too bad.
For $200 I can get an inexpensive Asian Ball Jointed Doll, plus a really nice outfit, direct from the original makers. For $500 I can get a really amazing doll. Or an artist repaint from someone! Got Barbie in 1962. Real zippers, awesome clothes.

I agree w/you thank you for this video. I love every Barbie I purchased [STARTED BUYING/Collecting AGAIN IN THE 90'S] went through some rough financial times in 2008 -2012 crash so sold some on EBAY. During that same time it was hard to sell anything of value as people were losing homes jobs. etc. JUST LIKE NOW we are in a uncertain maybe worse time than a little over 10 yrs ago. I learned a great lesson 10 yrs ago and I suggest if you have stuff you don't love sell it now so you can buy something you really do love later, if you are patient prices will be dropping.

I was desperately on the lookout for Delilah Field when she first came out. I couldn't find her anywhere and I was so sad. Well eventually I came across her while doing some grocery shopping! There was just one. Now I don't like taking them out of the boxes. The packaging is just as fun to me as the doll itself. Ok so this Delilah wasn't perfectly boxed. One of her flower hair bands was tilted. Normally this would have been a complete deal breaker and I would have left it on the shelf, but I was so afraid I would never find one again that I purchased her... Then 3 weeks later there were Delilahs everywhere! Uuuugh ;_;
I'm thinking I might just end up taking her out of the box. That tilted flower bothers me.

That $15 doll in 2005? It came here to my country costing idk, R$50. It was already expensive back then. The most expensive barbie I've ever owned was that mermaidia one with huge wings, and back then it costed around R$100. So imagine how expensive dolls are here nowadays!! A basic g3 Draculaura (through resellers, since it hasn't been released here yet) is R$500, it's legit almost HALF THE MINIMUM WAGE!!!

Most of the dolls from Mattel creations are defective. I'm tired of sending dolls back or my messages about poor quality being ignored by customer service. I will buy older barbies (that almost never have issues), dolls from local retail stores that are easy to return (if there is an issue), or dolls from other companies. They need to focus on their quality control as well as the prices.
I ate a lot of shit when I was able to get heavy into collecting because of how bad scalpers get whenever something is off the shelves. Even the Fashionistas skyrocket. But waiting on new things until they hit clearance has definitely been for the best. I'm spending a lot this season but most of it has been stuff that's been in my cart all year and now it's 50% or more off so why not.
One thing I really dislike about MGA though is how they handle boy dolls. It's like they're made of gold sometimes. It took months for Finn Rosado to drop below $27 even when the rest of the Pacific Coast line was averaging $12 - $18. Thankfully they do eventually drop but it makes it difficult to feel like you're getting your money's worth sometimes. Beyond that, that bullshit they pull where they only release boys in sets like the OMGs really pisses me off too.

Are you sure about that? From what I have seen Mattel hasn't released their new designs for the Frozen dolls. All that is in stores currently is what Hasbro made back in 2019.
Personally I'm afraid to see what Mattel does for Frozen. The dolls they made for the original movie were H I D E O U S. The only person I have ever seen say that Mattel did a better job than hasbro with the budget Frozen dolls is xCanadansis. And frankly she is wrong. Mattel treated Frozen the way Hasbro treated Raya.

Eveb the Signiture dolls turn out when you open them that they have bad hairquality or bolded hair on the back or my rewind 80's barbie that had stains on the shoes you couldnt see it from the front but unboxed you see its under the shoe like is there no quality check or what🤔

So I am so with you.... Like if you want to make a doll with molded on shoes and plastic hair and a soft body and call it my first Barbie.... Cool beans but it better cost $3.99. They have NO business creating "play line dolls" The kids can't play with because the dolls can't sit or move their arms in any position that would make any sense. Literally the entire reason that I stopped playing with Barbie after about 6 months when I was 5 years old was because I couldn't stomach the idea of trying to play pretend with a doll who couldn't hold anything and couldn't be moved into positions to make it look even remotely like it was supposed to be doing the thing that I wanted it to do.... I wonder if the reason why mattel dolls are cheaply made for more money. And why rainbow high are cheaper with better quality. Maybe MGA used underpaid factories in China, when mattel budget goes on better paid employees. I wonder if theres a way to know. Online I saw mattel used to have underpaid employees years ago, but I found nothing as it for now. Because if their budget goes into the employees salary, that woukd explain why they have to cut in the quality. Because if that's the case wr will have to be more cautious, in the sense its easy to spend 50$ for a rainbowhigh doll or what ever, but we have to think of who made it in which condition. Like Shein clothes for example are made in very bad condition.
I don't collect barbie much so I don't know when the change occurred, But I have noticed that Barbie isn't made in China anymore. They are all made in Indonesia. I think the change happened sometime in the last 10 years and I wonder how much that effects the production of Barbie.
Yea it’s like doll collecting become something only the elite can do. Luckily I really don’t collect many doll lines but even the ones I do are getting ridunkylous. Only things I like bout RH is SH and really I only like their clothes I wish I liked their dolls but I’m just not a normie doll collector. Fantasy/mythical characters is more my thing.
